Took one for a test ride today, in December, in the UK, 2 degrees and raining!!! Certainly wasn’t a day for riding hard but from the moment the key was turned in the ignition I was pretty much sold. None of these videos can get across how good the bike sounds in real life. It’s just as noteworthy how easy the bike was to ride in awful weather around town as it is how well it goes on a track. Triumph deserve to sell loads of them, great job 👍

@@bennettsbikesocial If you pay over £10K then you should be ashamed of your bargaining prowess! I hope the quick-shifter is better than my 2018 model - I hardly use mine as it's not that great. Otherwise it's been the perfect bike for me - never really wanted for more power on the road as I'm usually thrashing it to enjoy the sound! The rear shock is prone to being peppered with stones from the sticky tyres so your nice Ohlins doesn't look new for long but otherwise it's OK finish-wise but not the premium finish they'd have you believe.

I hope the midrange power bump has given this motor a bit more character. I really wanted to like the 2017 765RS but after testing it just felt... meh. The older 675 gave me a bigger grin and my current xsr900 feels a lot more fun/raw than the 765. Don't get me wrong. The 765RS is the best middle weight naked in its class (speed, braking, handling etc.) when measured. It's just, in my opinion, too smooth and refined for a "hooligan" triple. It should be twitching, screaming, popping and gurgling when you take it for a short spin around your favorite backroad. As the old Speed Triples did back in the day :)

Definitely agree with your comments about the colours. The grey is ok, think it would be better without so much red detailing personally and the less said about the matte black and yellow the better! Bit disappointed as I've been waiting for this. I'll have to wait another year and see if it comes in better colour schemes...

@@marcosibiza this is a question I'm interested in too. Fagan, 44th, seems to think the other way around saying that the street is a better choice as it is much lighter and the lesser weight compensates some of the power difference. Anyhow, I think that the following release of the 1160 speed triple could change things.

I lust for the engine and lament the platform. Even as an ol’fart, if I had a track in my backyard, I’d have one of ‘em. But I don’t, so what I would pay for is a 765 “midsized” sport touring model with Speed Triple “roots” empathetic ergonomics and a decent cost of ownership. Damn, that engine deserves more dance partners.

@@Kendoji1 I get what your saying, but that's really not what I want (it's less power, more weight, worse suspension, worse brakes, and costs more). Just a street triple R or RS with a reasonable screen and maybe slightly higher bars - that'll do. Just as capable in the twisties but a bit more comfortable on the way there and back home afterwards.

yodidly: Right you are. I have no desire for a dumbed down 765, I want a smartened-up performance bike using that jewel of an engine . . . and “bespoke” panniers. Even if it cost more. Sort of a light all-rounder for riders who can appreciate quality. A niche product that the hordes won’t buy, but silently admire.

There's no need to be hostile if you're looking for our advice. Of course, like all comparisons it depends on what you you're looking for in a bike, how you'll use it, what your experience is like, how much you want to pay, etc. For a start one is a 1050cc and the other is 765 while there's around 20bhp and £3000 difference. The Street is lighter and more agile while the Speed is more comfortable over distance, but because the model is two years newer, there's more of a chance the Speed will be updated within the next 18 months. Is there anything more specific you wanted help with? Cheers, Michael

Thanks for the reply Michael, there was zero hostility intended, it was intended as excitement, I’m in the market for a new bike, I’ve short listed these 2 and possibly an 890 duke, I want something fun but on a nice day I’ll also use it to commute 70 miles. I’m a 5’10” 18 stone brick shit house, other than enduro (450 husa) and a test ride on a super duke before the lock down (didn’t love it) I haven’t rode for 6 years, my last road bike was a 2012 fireblade. Thanks and again, sorry for the unintended hostility

Fancy new models are no good if the customer has to put up with rust on fuel tanks inner surface after a few months from new (plus other fixings). Put things on straight, not wonky like the dash, tank, decals etc. Not just my bike, new bikes in showroom all had problems.....Stop rushing them out!!
