Triumph Speed Triple RS Review. 180 ps FAST Road Sports Motorcycle! How good for the average rider?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We review the new Triumph Speed Triple RS. The ultimate performance Naked Sports Bike.
This blisteringly quick, powerful motorcycle has to be seen to be believed!
We look at it from the point of view of the average good rider. Is it suitable? We know its fast! But is it too hot to handle for you and me; or just right?
We look at the bike in detail and go over the engine, power, torque, fuel economy, suspension, brakes, comfort, sound, gears, wheels, tyres modes, dash display and more.
Are you thinking of getting a Sports motorbike? Have you just passed your test? You need to watch this video!

My limited experience, knowing myself and my limitations, is to divide all motorcycles into "pushers" and "pullers", the first ones push you to go faster and faster, the others pull you back from any attempt of fast riding. Motorcycles like this Speed Triple have great dynamic ability, way exceeding my humble needs and self-control. For me, they turn you into Superman, but, unfortunately, without the invulnerability bit. Combined with the common road dangers they create a limited opportunity of survival. I love the danger and the adrenaline rush, but I like breathing even more. Maybe, if I had access to a racing track, such a powerful motorcycle would make sense.

Whoever rides one of these must have immense faith in the ability of all the other road users i.e the great powers of observation required to see you coming at road road junctions, traffic islands etc. Unfortunately there are too many car drivers on the road who lack this ability.. Definitely too much power for use on the road but a great track bike.

My 1200 RS got her first service yesterday. I love it. It’s fast and feels awesome on every road. 180 PS sounds a lot? But it’s usable. The torque curve is so linear. 100nm at 3k rpm but then it just goes and goes and goes up, no end in sight. It’s just a joy to ride this bike.

Great review and another beautiful bike from the Triumph stable. A total weapon if you do track days or live in in the right countries! I had the Street Triple 765 which I loved, but with a speed cameras / vans popping up all over the place in my area, I decided to get something a bit more sedate while I still had my license!

Cracking speed! What a naked beast. Guy Martin and the IOM. Loved it! Absolute glorious exhaust note. Triumph is just hitting out of the park with Ohlins and Brembos too. My God you do have good taste. Lovely. Now we need to see you in proper go-fast performance gear befitting of this kind of bike. Astars or Dianese. But Classic is your persuasion. That’s relevant too. Nice review. Well done. Ride safe snd ride often.

I have a 2019 Speed RS and I think the technology in the bike made me a better rider. Previously had a Street R 675 which was full analog. I do agree you have to be an experienced & good rider for this machine, but the ride modes and anti wheelie can improve your skills. Great review. My 1050 has more than enough power for me so I won’t be switching. Only complaint about Triumph electronics is the annual service reminder wrench that shows up on the screen, I feel it’s unnecessary as rarely do people put the KMs on in a year but we change the oil regardless. Local dealer charges $35 to shut the reminder off. Stay safe, all the best.

I know a guy who has a 2006 Speed Triple and he thinks that the model he has, is better looking than the most recent interations of the Speed Triple. Having said that, Triumph have maintained the consistency of what essentially is a Speed Triple. They have maintained that DNA essence of a Speed Triple, even while the modern Speed Triples have all these modern rider aids like traction control, ABS etc etc. Remember the 2006 model has no ABS, Traction Control, slipper clutch etc etc. However, it essentially still has the Triple cylinder engine.

@@MrDarcy-OlMan Another thing is that this 2021 Speed Triple, if I am not mistaken has an electronic key. Hence, it is keyless. The 2006 model has an old fashion mechanical key. I prefer a "good old" mechanical key that you insert into the ignition. I don't like this new trend of keyless keys on bikes. I can accept ABS, slipper clutches, Traction Control. However, I draw the line with electronic keys.

Good review. Re the firm suspension, I own one and believe it's TOO firm and should have had the electronic suspension which they gave the RR, especially as the RS is supposedly more road-going. Not many pot-holes on the race track.. The other thing I'd mention is that a Street Triple 765 would be a good alternative for those who've just got their full licence and like the look (you mentioned the Trident but it's quite a different look). Anyway keep up the great work!

And OH MY GOD does it require restraint! The engine sounds so amazing at high revs that you’re going to get into trouble real quick if you let it egg you on! 😂 Classic would definitely suit the daily rider better and so either a Speed Twin or Thruxton RS will be in my garage come Spring. Nice review of this bike...these sport naked bikes seem to have a lot going for them nowadays. Your reviews have been great! Love the channel. This is actually one naked that isn't drop dead ugly like so many of the competition. Lol This is fairly expensive bike in the US with a base msrp of $18500. Compare that with the Honda CB1000R Black Edition (which I believe you did a review of too) at $12999. At that price difference, I would have a hard time justifying the Triumph. You've ridden both now...do you think the Honda is less of a bike than the Triumph?

Add to that that fast bikes are getting faster, and humans just might not be capable of it much longer... Right now today there are motorcycles made that you can never get to their maximum speed

Straight from the horse's mouth. When I test rode this bike back in June I found it lacked a little character, possibly because the exhaust noise is now restricted because of Euro5 and the ride was too firm for UK roads, maybe the suspension needed adjusting to make it softer, but agree with you it is very fast. I also rode the Super Duke R 3.0 a week later and have to say I preferred that. I felt it had more character and it felt faster, not that I rode at crazy speeds on the roads. The electronics package and TFT screen are far better on the KTM imho. Everything is customisable. Not so on the Triumph. Neither bikes are suitable for novice riders or those with little experience of riding bigger faster bikes. Definitely not the bike for riding around damp slippery lanes in Wales. I would have thought an adv bike would be best for this. ATB.
