I've had my R for a year, I was gonna change to the 2020 RS from my 2018 R but after riding the R and RS back to back I found the R is still a better road bike with a better mid range, I do miss the 2018s TFT but the up/down quickshifter more than makes up for it, if I'd done a lot of trackdays I'd have gone for the RS but as a do it all bike IMO the R is the choice.

The newer R has a better torque curve also doesn't it. I am thinking of getting a R, the LRH because I have a horridly short inseam. Alternative is a BMW with a low seat height but I think a Triumph invokes more passion. people say it's looking dated but I think it has a refined sporty elegance.

The only other bike I like the look of is the Ducati Supersport 950 S but for the price, reliability and ability to do easy oil changes etc the triple wins hands down I think even if the Ducati is slightly more beautiful to look at.

Had a brilliant 675 RX a few years ago and after a few KTM Dukes that have been loads of fun I just bought a 2020 RS… Doubted between the RS and the R but there’s not many used R’s out there with low mileage. I do like the extras on the RS, the tft isn’t really important but I like the Ohlins rear shock, the m50 brakes, the seat cowl and belly pan. The power difference is just a throttle valve opening map in the ecu, that’s limited in some rider modes on the R, you can change it by ecu tuning, even tuneecu can do this 😊

  • @paulconnell1309

Thanks Eddie, Nice real world review. Where I live the RS is a bit dear. The R is about the same price as the MT09SP, Z900 and new GSX S1000. So challenging choice to make. More power and low down torque from the competitors. No quick shifter on the Z. I see from another video you chose the SP. Why not the Street Triple?

Placed an order on one last weekend… delivery in 2 weeks….. because….. they happened to have one in the showroom. 😉 Did not expect that. And that exact one will be now mine… 😊 They showed me delivery status as of present and , due to lack of parts etc etc, situation looks bleak. So, instead of pre ordering one for beginning of 2022 as I originally planned, I decided on not waiting it out and grab that one displayed model in the showroom, despite winter fast approaching. The dealer still need to make their checks and screw on the extra bits. Really hope for decent weather when taking delivery. It is only a 30 km ride to my home. If the weather is ok I go for a detour. If not I drive it straight home. And after that, I am wishing for a mild winter, so I can take it for a spin and get past break in period asap.

I'm also not a huge fan of Triumph's TFT, even the much bigger one I had on the Tiger 900 GT Pro. I agree too much information isn't really that readable and I prefer the analogue rev counter. Some reviewers have said that they found the front end of the Street Triple R a little imprecise and light, do you have that feeling? Same here from same India. Heart says street triple but mind says trident 660z We can buy a new trident or a used street triple. Trident feels more sophisticated. Steet triple on the other hand have more commanding style and performance. You will feel good first time when you ride trident 660. You will feel awesome with all the adrenaline rush it provides. This thing has triumph sporty dna flowing all through it. But trident feels more in practicality which i prefer. The service cost the fuel economy are bit easy on the pockets on the trident.
