Triumph Silver Jubilee Bonneville (T140VJ) - Renovation - Part 11- Project Re initiation

Фильм және анимация

I'm back at last - first of this year due to complications after contracting COVID over Christmas and the New Year. Still not 100% but much better.
Right - let's get back to Greg's Silver Jubilee and re-initiate (or maybe re-invigorate) this project to get it moving. It's slightly shocking that the last video on this was before the November shows last year!

Really enjoyed the update. Looks like your finding your way through the re-assembly! Time has a way of clouding our memories as to how things came apart and go back together as well as if it was put back together correctly by previously heavy handed spannering! I was surprised to see the front rocker box is fitted with the crankcase breather tube. That was started with the E models in 1979. Evidently someone along the line fitted that box. God bless you Angus I’m happy your feeling well enough to get back in the workshop. Great therapy for those of us who have the interest in such things.

Thank you for the kind words and encouragement Mick. Also for clarifying the later rocker box mod - we did wonder about that in the early days of disassembly.

Angus: Glad you are on the mend, never mind the bikes. Always better to be seen than viewed. As for the Jubilee Bonneville--that "light restoration" has taken on a life of its own. Be well and press on !

Good to see you’re getting better and back in the garage. I’m sure working on bikes again will help you and it is sometimes good to focus on other things and keep dark thoughts and possible anxiety and worries about health away. The days are getting longer and even here in Denmark we can feel the warmth from the sun and enjoy the spring flowers popping up from the ground. Best wishes for you and your family

Hi Angus, so sorry to hear that you were under the weather but good see you on the mend and back "on the air". I remember trying to re-assemble the rear brake system on a friend's T140 from a collection of bits and without a parts book. I suspect that Meriden employed intelligent stick insects too the job as it was so fiddly! Keep safe G

Many thanks Gordon. Yes the rear brake system is a brain teaser but I’m making some progress as you’ll see in the next video.

Mate, sorry to hear you've been crook (Oz-speak for ill) and glad to hear you're on the mend. When your health's not the best, everything has to take a back (pillion?) seat. Don't try to do too much, take it easy.

That has got the same rear brake setup as my 78 T140V. You have got your brackets a bit muddled up. The one you have in the middle there is the silencer hanger, not the master cylinder mounting bracket. The m/cyl bracket mounts onto the inboard side of the lug under the footrest/silencer bracket, not the swinging arm. There shouldn't be any banjo fittings on the rear caliper, there should be a steel pipe, roughly s-shaped, connecting the caliper to the lug on the caliper bracket, where it joins to a flexi hose which is secured to the lug by a lock nut. The flexi hose has a male thread on each end and screws straight into the end of the master cylinder. The steel pipe has a male flare nut on the caliper end and a female flare nut on the other end. This is one of the disadvantages of working on something which has been messed about with before, especially when you have to leave it for a while and go back to it. I'm sure you'll sort it in the end.

Thank you for the tips and clarification Rick. Yes I realised when filming a clip for the next video in the garage yesterday that I'g got the wrong mounting plate out for the calliper - derrrrr! So it's becoming a little clearer - especially with your help. Thanks again.

Great to see you back Angus, I look forward to many more videos. BTW for Christmas I got Norman Hyde's book Winning Ideas, Triumph Experimental Projects 1968 - 1975. I found it very interesting, there is a little bit on the Bandit/Fury, but nothing really you don't already know. However it does also show all the other prototypes the P30 frame was used.

Many thanks Andrew. I know of the P92 B50 and the Wankel prototypes that used the Fury frame. Where there others? I've seen a pic of a 500 twin that was purportedly factory but they are a creatively common mod by owners.

Both the 650 and 500 twins into that frame are mentioned in his book as official projects, he lists drawing numbers for the parts he drew for them.
