I think the exhaust heat would be too hot for Australia and my little legs would not bend around them. Great review. Top job again, thanks Michael and team.

Riding with Tom doesn't have problem with that, he do test it at Australia..so a bit warm maybe?..lol..

Suspension looks seriously impressive, I notice the bike stays flat and stable even recovering from the jumps. Reckon this one could be a bit of a 'sleeper' it has the longest travel suspension of ant adventure bike out there. May ruffle a few feathers in the adventure genre. Pity about the exhaust though, I wish it had been a less intrusive system.

@mld Well my money is on you being proved wrong my friend. It has the longest travel suspension of the entire adventure bike genre. It weighs exactly the same as the 1090R and from what I hear, it has even better suspension. For what I see in this video I reckon that night be the case. It may have less power but that is not everything on the dirt, just check out how the torque comes in so low and peaks at 3950 rpm. It is a seriously composed bike on the dirt and I think it will stack up very well indeed against the rest of them. I understand your point in terms of fuel range etc but my criteria is based on the performance of a platform. As long as the bike works, anything else can be changed. No one criticises a WR250R or a 500KTM because it has a short range because everyone puts a bigger tank on for instance. For this bike I personally would fabricate rear mounted feeder tanks and bin the standard exhaust set up because it will get in the way of luggage. But then I would do that because I want to ride something with character and style because I am tired of bikes which look like escapees from the Transformers films. I totally get that most people would rather just ride a ready made 'plastic-fantastic' like the 790R but the last big adventure trip I did on a KTM I asked myself why I did not feel any emotional attachment to the bike despite all we had been through together, and I realised it was because for me it had no soul.

Suspension was often criticized on old 900 Scrambler, and replaced with Ohlins aftermarket for true off-roading.

Nicely reviewed.

Nice bike but can't see the point of the high level exhaust. Which is why I'd take the GS Urban over the R9T Scrambler.

Love Triumph

The best thing about the 1200 is that I should be able to pick up a 900 trade-in for a good price.

It looks amazing, but Iam still more enduro rider, but I had the money for a second bike this would me it.

On my list.

Will Triumph please put their 900 and 1200 engines in the 800 Tiger chassis. Without lots of electronics. Ta.

Tenere Traveller Yes!!! I’d be all over a 900cc 2 cylinder Tiger. Though I’d like to keep the electronics from the Tiger 800.

@@Kendoji1 I'll give you heated grips, power outlet and abs for safety, but for me the rest is just stuff to go wrong and halt your progress. As I'm not interested in performance all the performance aids aren't of any interest. But it would be a hugely capable and enjoyable travel bike, I think

Tenere Traveller Fair. I’ve owned a 2017 Tiger XRT and it was almost the perfect adventure bike for me. So well specced - I loved the heated seats, tyre pressure monitoring, etc... In fact the ONLY reason I swapped it for an Africa Twin is that I much prefer the character of 2 cylinder engines. So yep, a Tiger 800 or 900 with one of those Triumph 2 cylinder engines would be my absolute dream bike.

The look is great, But that exhaust would be hotter than hell. The weight i dont think to be a worrie. It isnt a motocross bike and the weight seems manageable by all the videos ive seen out there. I guess it couldn't have a bigger tank for that reason. Got to say tho, I like it.

Exhaust does emanate heat but not uncomfortable. Must be fantastic in the winter. I tried to burn my leg with thin jeans on and didn't even get close to discomfort.

Thats the bike we all were waiting for. So called "Tradition" made viable. +++ .................................. just a little expensive

I sat on this at the Long Beach Bike show and was concerned by how very heavy it is, and top-heavy as well. If you lose even marginal balance at walking pace on a greasy, sandy or gravely hill, this thing will go down like a water buffalo and call for back-breaking effort to pick up... not to mention the damage and very high cost of repairs on such a luxury brand. I wouldn't take this beyond a well groomed fire road. Don't even think of getting close to single tracks with serious rocks, drops and tight turns.

I understand your point, but the same could be said of all 205 kilo bikes. It is no more top heavy than a KTM1090R for instance and on the move it is very well balanced. I will certainly take it on serious off road stuff myself but then it is a matter of personal choice.

@@Britishshooter , true that. Most adv bikes are whales. I used to own a Super Tenere and had to trade it in for a KTM 690 Enduro after struggling with it. I think experienced dirt and technical terrain riders can handle anything on tight trails, but for ageing noobs or intermediate riders, anything over 320 lbs is just an unpleasant wrestling match on tricky terrain. I've just picked up a new KLX 250 and love the low height and very low weight… its much more fun when you can pick a bike up while riding solo, without busting your back.

XE is a no brainer.

Should have called it the Jupiter 1200....

A lot of money for a bike that doesn't even make 100 hp. It's beautiful tho. You'll buy a bike for its nice suspension and cool factor but you'll always sell it for lack of power.

blipco5 It might not be particularly powerful (although 90bhp isn’t bad), but it does have a lot of torque by ADV standards (almost as much as the BMW GS1200), which it honestly more important off road, as top speed isn’t the main concern.

Great to see a British company doing well . However it saddens me that Triumph is doing down the retro fashion accessory route , and let's be honest how many Beckham wannabes are gonna take their 12 grand Scrambler where it might get dirt on it

That's pretty much the whole brand of triumph and there is a market for it proven by Ducati and Royal Enfield. I think if someones buying this bike over a regular Boneville they'd have full intent to take at least on some fire trails. I really hate this old fart opinion and you really are the minority even of old farts.

HuziMoto . Old fart , Possibly , but maybe not as I ride a real bike , Ktm superduke 1290 r You keep splashing on your Triumph aftershave and having your hipster moustache waxed ,but make sure you give the old fart a wave when he comes past you on the back wheel at 100 mph

Jane Mander Triumph entered a nearly stock Scrambler 1200 XE (they only changed the tires, bash plate, and grips) in the Baja 500, and it managed to stayed competitive. That’s enough for me to consider it a capable adv bike. As someone who loves the aesthetic of these “modernised classics”, and is also unlikely to tour in it (the fuel range is a bit low), I love it and would take it over a BMW GS1200 or KTM Dakar any day.

Why wouldn't you want to tour on it? I would take it RTW. It is a perfect adventure tourer.

It'd do a fine job for sure but I'd have to have the screen and luggage options and have to put up with refuelling every 150-miles. Cheers, Michael

@@bennettsbikesocial No problem on the fuel range, there are ways around that. I am a veteran of many long distance off road adventures through remote areas and I build my own engineering solutions.

Spazik86 Apparently it gets quite hot in stop/start traffic, like around town. So it’s not a great choice for a city bike (also as it’s quite high), but it’s less of an issue out of the city, where you should be riding it.

iT WOULD BE GREAT TO SEE ONLY THESE GREAT LOOKING BIKES ON THE ROAD (AND OFF ROAD) NOT THE SO CALLED "MODERN" (READ UGLY) GARBAGE.
