Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE. Shapeways leg saver update.

A quick update on the leg saver from Shapeways, now that I've had chance to ride with it fitted for a while.

I bought one and rode bike in 23 degrees heat and is an 100% improvement . Highly recommend it. I think it only applies to the 2019 to 2020 bikes as the latest ones they moved the decay to the exhausts.

Funktioniert einwandfrei! Die Hitze ist deutlich reduziert und es kommt nicht zu Verbrennungen an der rechten Wade.

I don't speak German, but have used Google to translate, so I hope it's right. Yes it works flawlessly, there is no more burning to the right calf. You can still feel the exhaust heat, but that is to be expected with the exhaust close to your leg. It is warm but no longer uncomfortable. I can now enjoy riding the bike without the risk of burning my calf through my bike jeans.

Would this work for the 2022 Scrambler 900 also?

Yes it would, although shouldn't really be needed as the 2022 onwards bikes have had the catalytic converter moved to the rear silencers.

@@thetaleof2wheels.947 I have a 2022. The silver piece in front of the leg saver still gets pretty hot. That said, I don't think your leg will touch that unless you're tall - I'm 6'2" and my knee touches it just enough to be uncomfortable.

Why not use heat wrap thru out the exhaust ?

@Numbie9527 I don't have the bike anymore. I didn't use heat wrap as that can trap moisture near the exhaust ( condensation) which can rot the exhaust. Also a lot of heat wraps are fibreglass, and it's horrible to work with.

It's the " Scrambler MAX Plus Leg Saver V1.2" from a company called Shapeways ( www.Shapeways.com). There's 2 versions, the MAX that I have and a smaller version. Also different materials as well, which are different prices. There is shipping to add to the cost as well, which varies depending on which country you are in and your nearest production facility.

The fact that you need to buy an aftermarket part just to keep from burning your leg is just a ridiculous design flaw. Terrible design.

The Euro 4 bikes ( like mine) have the Catalytic converter in the header pipes just in front of your knee, which is where the heat comes from. The Euro 5 bikes have had the catalytic converter moved to the rear silencer, so the heat problem has been solved. In all fairness though, you don't expect an exhaust to be cool and should always expect some heat on a high level exhausted bike. The CBF1000F that I had before this used to cook your right shin when the radiator fans activated, if like this bike the conditions were right for it. ( Slow or stopped traffic and a very hot day).

Look for "shapeways leg saver max". There may be a supplier in your region.
