Triumph Bonneville T100 Long Term Ownership - Still Perfect

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It’s well over a year since I parted with my T120. After trying the T100 I fell in love with it and had to buy it. The Triumph Bonneville T100 or Buddy as I call it as a reminder, if one was needed, of my dad. My dad loved Bonnevilles and he also loved Buddy Hollie. I had originally bought a T120 but did not get on with it for various reasons, despite it being a marvellous motorcycle. I haven’t looked back since. I have loved every minute of ownership and it has to be one of the easiest bikes to own. I love it every time I ride it. Anyway, the video, along with my previous videos on it tells the story.

From one member of the T100 Goldline Club to another, we definitely picked a cracking bike and a real head turner. For me, it’s all about how it makes me feel both as an owner and a rider. I just love it in every respect. Simple as. TG

Got my 2022 T100 based on a long tradition of quality and style that I have always attributed to Triumph and I have not been disappointed. I have gotten to the point that it is a member of the family and I have lost all objectivity. So far just perfect for my needs and my only temptation is the new 400 coming out next year. I always like to see your riding on British roads... it is a lot more thrilling for me than you may expect as a Yank I see you defying death with every car that passes and though you have a lovely countryside to ride in I realize I will never be able to ride there... but I will take what we have over here and be grateful.... Shiny side up!

It is indeed the perfect motorcycle 👌. I had one, wished I still had it but it had to go for financial reasons. When we bought it we tried the T120 / T100 back to back and actually preferred the T100. The fuelling was much better, the handling sublime. Yes, the rear shocks got a bit overwhelmed if you really pushed on but we never did push on, not really. The gearbox was extremely positive if a bit clunky. Weirdly, the change from 2nd to 3rd was most noticeable. Heavier than the Classic 350 but actually more manageable for me due to lower seat height. At 70mph in 5th (top) the engine is at 3750rpm which also happens to be maximum torque. But plenty of torque is available from just over 1500rpm. All in all marvellous 😊

Picked up my T100 two weeks ago - big change from riding mainly adventure bikes - Tiger XC, Multistrada and R1200 GSA (which I absolutely loved) but in a good way. Much easier to get out of my small garage and every bit as much fun to ride even though I'm doing road legal speeds instead of risking my licence. I find it makes me want to chill and enjoy the ride instead of hammering every bend - which it can do if you don't mind the wear on the pegs! Got some Givi hard panniers and screen on it and I'm expecting it to be capable of everything I did on my other bikes whilst being easier to get out on for quick local rides. Glad you are still loving yours a year on👍

Lovely looking bike. Regarding service intervals, I think you'll find it's 10k miles or 12 months. For most 12 months will come sooner, it's just a marketing ploy. Personally I wouldn't want oil left in the engine for that long.

  • @TAYM

Thanks TP 😁 I do over 25,000 a year not including ‘other’ bikes I ride. I realise I am probably a minority but if I only had one bike, at 3000 mile intervals it would spend more time being serviced than it would ridden. There is also a big difference between dropping the oil and an annual service. But, I appreciate for most it might not be an issue 😁

I love the retro bikes. I have an INT650 (although I am going to sell it to “pay back” some of the funds I borrowed from my savings for the T100.). Wonderful bike . Stuart Fillingham didn't have a problem with his , but he wanted Triumph to act because he was worried an issue MIGHT arise at some point !! ... they said no and he's waged a war against the brand ever since. The early 1200's did have a few failures on a batch of bikes but no longer a problem. Yamaha had a similar issue with FJR's some years ago and BMW have a list as long as your arm.

Lovely bike is the Bonneville , I'd have one in a heartbeat if they had weather protection , alas we need to get out of the weather over here and a decent fairing makes a huge difference . You're a brave guy weaving through that traffic , I noticed two courteous drivers and one *rsehole in A TESLA [ desperately trying to maim motorcyclists while he singlehandedly saves the planet ]. And a lady in her pyjamas on a bicycle , very stylish . Oh and talking about style , have you noticed that FD has forsaken muscle bikes and has taken to wearing a hairnet [ of the Ena Sharples variety ] and riding an electric scooter , marvelous eh ?

"64 brake horsepower, not masses, not huge". It's about 15 horsepower more than a sixties "superbike" had, and it's about 5 horsepower less than a seventies superbike. It's enough to get you in trouble. It's also enough to power two Morris Minors! I'm currently on the hunt for a W800. They're as rare as rocking horse excrement, in Australia. If I can't find one, it's a toss up between the Bonneville T100 and a Royal Enfield. Thanks for the content.

I have a Street Twin - lower seat height! Can wear my normal boots! 👍Yes, I’m sure I could ride the T100 but would probably need my bigger boots. The Guzzi V7 I sold after 13 years and 35k miles was 900mm! That was okay but becoming a bit of a stretch over the rear seat! I just decided to try different bikes whilst I still can! 👴I’ve been off into Derbyshire, on the Enfield Trials, and a bit of Staffordshire today! Some 164 miles done on, mostly, small roads! Found myself down a Martin Trafford route Ford - lucky I took the Trials! 👍😀

Hello - Really enjoy watching your videos and reviews. Presumably I'm one of the many coming back to motorcycling after a long break and looking to purchase a T100. However, i have been looking at so many review videos on KZread on the T100, W800 and now suffering from "Analysis Paralysis! 🙂 Having said that, the T100 looks to be my preferred choice but cannot decide as to whether to go for an older Bonneville or a newer model. I have seen some very good examples of 20 year old Bonneville's with very low mileage, but thinking that a newer machine would be best. What do you think?

I think some other KZreadrs (mentioning no names) opinions are very much influenced by factors other than the bikes themselves even now putting down bikes that he's not even seen yet. I agree with every single thing you said even though, for me, the T120 is the one for me. I wouldn't put other manufacturers down they make great bikes at great prices and have a lot of very happy owners but the Triumph just feels special every time I get on it and I could (and do) just sit and look at it. Is it perfect? No it isn't I would say the low down fuelling could be improved (but you soon learn to ride around it) and I don't know if it's just mine but the idiot light for the indicators is not very visible especially on sunny days. Other than that there's nothing I can really think of that is wrong with the bike. As for price value is subjective and some people are as happy as Larry driving a Dacia and cannot see why someone else would spend the extra for the equivalent Mercedes. Personally I think that the Bonneville is worth every single penny over it's budget equivalent but some might not. I will admit I think Triumph do go overboard with the whole Union Jack thing and the whole "Lifestyle" accessories stuff but I guess that is the modern world now.

I have the T120 Gold Line. Already had the fuel tank changed for a paint defect. Now the throttle sticks wide open randomly, sometimes sticks at 3500 rpm in town. The high temp alarm always comes on and constantly has a check engine light on now, with only 3000km on it. I've decided it gets one more chance to get fixed at the dealership or it's gone. I love the bike but starting the loose the appeal having to drive it 120 miles to get fixed.

  • @TAYM

I had the T120 for a couple of years but prefer the T100, I think it handles better. I commute and general rides two up and really don’t have any problems. It will cruise all day at the maximum speed limits in the uk (and more). New, the T100 is about £2,500 less, produces 65bhp and 80 Nm torque. The T120 has 15bhp more and 20Nm torque more, neither of which are necessary in my opinion😁 but you need to try yourself. If buying used the price difference may be a lot less particularly if you compare a 2020 T120 to a 2021 T100 etc 😁 hope that helps 😁 thanks E 😁

You don't need a big bike on motorway my Interceptor do 75mph all day easy & ton up occasionally passing cars same with Trident 🔱 660. I have a suspicion that Street Twin 900 12L tank is actually 12.4-12.5L filling level bike or straddling bike when filling. They said Trident 🔱 is 14L tank till you buy one & read manual & it says 14.4L filling level to bottom of filler neck with a little small gap so Street Twin probably the same.Thst extra .4-.5L is 10km.
