Sorry the audio is a bit rough, the weather & airplanes were not cooperating! Also the camera died mid-discussion. Either way, hope you enjoy the video. Follow Shingai here: instagram.com/afsp_official Join The Online Training Group: market.teambuildr.com/programs/sprintingworkouts/

Thank you Cody and Shingai for this great video! There’s not a lot out there for triple and I find it a great complement (with long jump) to pure short sprint training. Also not a lot of competition out there in the upper master’s divisions (60-64 for me) so well worth to have a crack at it and you might get on the podium! The 3 broad jump warm up is a new one on me and I’m putting it straight into the program. Would Shingai recommend any other basic progressions on the grass?

Thanks Michael! When first adding in the triple broad jump, I would focus on staying upright and not trying to go SUPER far each jump, that way you can keep good posture and not overstress your adductors. I find when landing in broad jumps, I can get some adductor irritation if I am too focused on distance. As far as other exercises, doing a variety of small hopping exercises is good to get a higher volume of low intensity contacts in, which can help build up your feet, ankles, calves, etc. You can do them in-place, forward, backward, sideways, etc. Dan Pfaff has some video clips on KZread about his rudiment hop series which is worth watching. Progressing from low amplitude hops toward short bounds, then increasing the number of bounds is something that can be generally useful for jumping athletes.

Hey Cody, been doing plyometrics since years now but haven't ever lifted weights, so would lifting weights now add distance or height faster to my jump?

I think adding in some lifting is wise. It’ll likely make your performance worse in the short term due to fatigue and soreness, but after a few weeks or months you’ll get stronger and start seeing the strength transfer into your jumping. Keep it simple with basic lifts at moderate loads and you should get good results.
