CURRENT SCHEDULE
Expect a new video every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 11AM Central!
How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a KZread channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

The army worms in our area love the fields that been fresh mowed and just starting to grow back. Had to spray for them last year. Good luck.

...been fairly dry here in So.OR and mowed about 1/2 acre and it also didn't take that long to cut the grass; also bumpy and was pretty worn out...and very dusty! Same experience, only on a much smaller scale...! Loving the color of that t shirt....lol...Can you see me now!!!!!????

Glad to see a HFW vid. Great views of the valley. Those overhead shots with the bright green windrows looked amazing, although I have to say, oh my goodness on how thin they were compared to past years. Hopefully you and everyone else in farm country gets the rain they need.

It's thin because Travis said he did not put fertiliser on it in the spring. This is the result of that bad policy. See how light green it is from lack of nitrogen.

@@robertstibz9506 Please, go back in the video, and look, really look, at the cracks in the ground, THAT is the major reason, for the thin cutting. Back in the late 80's to early 90's, when it got this bad, for a long stretch, the farmers around Eau Clair Wisconsin had one of their retirees come up to Eastern Manitoba, where he bought out almost every bail of hay in the area. He came up for quite a few years in a row.

Hey Ryan good video. When I was a kid growing up on the farm out in the plains of Colorado it was so dry and we had the old back door tractor cabs. My Dad was getting out and accidentally kick out a chain that we always carried in them. He waited for 30 minutes and never did hear it hit the bottom. That was dry😊

This year the weather is strange. You need rain and us in the north east maine,New Hampshire area it’s been raining since may. We have only had about maybe 2 weeks of good weather on and off. We I mean the farmers only just now did first cut hay. I hope you get enough for your cattle. Good luck

Cut grass then make it into hay. "Hay is grass, legumes, or other herbaceous plants that have been cut and dried to be stored for use as animal fodder," Just so you all understand..

I'm curious as to why the mower itself doesn't spread the hay out... instead of having a tedder come through right after? Is it to avoid driving on the freshly cut hay?
