TRIMMING My Lawn Will NEVER Be The Same + Will It Ever Rain??
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Trimming and edging the lawn might be one of the more overlooked topics in general lawn care but it really puts the finishing touches on a beautiful landscape. A group of friends bought me this power rotary scissors for my birthday and I have had a chance to use it quite a few times now and wanted to share what I've learned about it. It is AWESOME! In addition to that I wanted to touch on the continued lack of rain that we are experiencing, a well overdue reel mow, and some updates on the Kentucky Bluegrass monostands.

You've got a lot to be proud on how far that yard has progressed RK. As JP says, "perfection sucks". Keep it up man!

I remember watching one of your videos called you can have grass like this. That was about a year ago in the fall. Ever since then I have been managing my grass much more. And watching Vid's and gaining information about my lawn care. Now people say nice grass, they don't know the hard work that goes into it not just mowing.
I’m always down for a cloudy, messy, rainy day. But now that I’m into lawn care I realise sunny days are all-important
Same thing happens in Colorado. 80% chance of rain, never see a single drop. Then there are days with 10% chance of rain and it rains heavy for a good 15-30 minutes.
Love the speech around 11:00. Nothing better then the rewards of hard work.👍
I’am praying for an all day light rain soaking cool temperatures for my TTTF/KBG here in Blue Springs Missouri. Great video 👍👍

Just rained here for two days straight. Unusual for this area. I know we've gotten over 7 inches easy. Had flooding in low areas and blocked roads and everything. My yard is up high so I'm loving it. Usually a drought at this time of year for us.

Feel your pain Brandon. I’m in Springfield MO. We went from please god stop raining in May, to literally not a drop all June. Little scattered through mid July which really was a blessing. Now back to zilch. Praying for some rain here. Anything.
Love a cloudy day Ryan! I’m also a cool weather kinda guy. I’m battling the heat here in Aurora, IL. We seem to miss out on a lot of the rain the passes through our area. Thanks for your insight. I love my lawn work. Your channel is a big part of my week. Keep up the great content! Thanks!
I would say this, Your done. You say its not perfect. Thats crazy. Now you are done. You have a lush green lawn that people would love to have. Just chill and enjoy it and just try to maintain. To say its not perfect means you are nitpicking lol. Enjoy man. You win. I wish i could get my lawn like that.
Thank you for this recommendation! I am now using it to landscape my property and it has changed my life. I hated all the debri that the string trimmer would kick up. Being stung every now and again by small stones and twigs was not fun. Another benefit would be being able to edge the grass and not have the dirt kicked out onto the sidewalk. I've been using mine to edge the sidewalk areas and flower beds (just need to be sure no stones and pebbles are in the way) Also I can clear around saplings without damaging the bark the base. Thank you Mr. Knorr!
You’re the best Ryan and as you said, you have to be willing to try. Watching you plant grass seed and then Peat Moss it, pushed me to grow my first lawn this year. It isn’t perfect, but the compliments are endless. Growing Grass is my favorite of all things. I wanna grow grass everywhere now 😉 Thank you and please keep sharing SK.NYC
Yeah! Get that Rye into Connor's yard! And thanks for the follow up on the power scissors. I think I need this in my life.
I feel the rain pain. However, rain in July has bounced back and so has my lawn here in Central MN! I enjoyed your little moment of reflection. You have inspired me to really want to learn and know more about my lawn. Your videos have taught me a lot. Keep up the great work! I just came across one from 4 years ago. You have come so far!
Yes I always enjoy a nice cloudy day here in Texas we had one yesterday it was a great weekend to be out on the lake
Hey Ryan. You'd love the weather in England right now. We had a warm spring (leading to drought in the South East in fact) but since then we've had moderate temperatures, and rain at least once a week for the past few weeks. Your channel (and the lawn rebel) has been the inspiration for me to step up my lawn care regime - mowing more frequently and applying feed too. I'm prepared for some renovation in Autumn, having bought some seed with a high proportion of SSMG (Smooth Stalk Meadow Grass), which is what Kentucky Blue grass goes by over here. Really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
My wife looked over my shoulder while watching and says "That Shitbox Mustang is still sitting there, hun." I laughed.
Really digging your channel this year, which is great because good things are in short supply in 2020. Keep on "philosophising" and hitting those lawn goals. You and the rest of the KZread boys are the reason my lawn care has gone from a chore to a hobby, and it's a pleasure to be able to follow along your journey as we all go through our own.
3:54 - Beautiful timing with your editing!
This video is so valuable to me. I’m going to have to look into the power scissors. I hate string trimmers and design my yard so that I can avoid them. But the scissors look like a real tool! You are so right about needing a cloudy day. Our lawns, and other plants need a break once in a while.
I live in Tennessee and moved to a new home w 8000 sq ft lawn. I've been following your videos since early spring and my lawn is looking great! Thanks!
I started my lawn renovation this past fall with kentucky bluegrass, I was told the same thing it cant be grown in my area. I live in the southern part of N.C. grass has been alot of work but is doing just fine so far. So dont let anyone tell u it cant be done. Love your videos..
The yard looks great from here! I'm in the transition zone (7b) as well and have had cool season grass all my life. 8 months out of the of the year we have great weather for TTTF and Rye. I'll take that over 4 months of nice looking bermuda grass any day 👍
Thank you for the philosophy and comments. Always good to remember in all you do! Thanks Ryan 👍
I feel you about the rain. Here in MN we been seeing this 90 heat wave. Good rain has been missing my lawn to. My rain gauge has been disappointing as well. Can't wait for lower temp.
Love this channel. Keep up the good work Ryan. It's all about #lawngoals 👊
"On camera I guess" lol get em Ryan!
I’m glad you said something. Your yard really looks great. Enjoy the green.
Thank you for the monologue from 9:55. I really started to feel disappointed, because of my grass, that after a year hard work it still not as perfect as I would like to see it. But your right, we should see the changes in where we started and how much we have already learned about our grass, Thanks for your videos mate, I learned a lot from you.
Letting the “it’s hotter here” warm season southerners know how this works. Love it
coming out of record breaking rain here in PA the past 2 years to this drought I definitely feel bad for you landscaping guys. I was cutting my lawn almost twice a week starting in May the last two years, now I've only cut the lawn 4 times this entire summer. My yard is one of the only ones not completely burned out from this sun
I appreciate all the work you put into your content. Up here in Wa state I have turned so many people to your channel. I get asked how I get my lawn to look like it does, and every time I tell them to check your channel out. Thanks so much for all your knowledge passed on to us
I found that running the rotary scissors on my Ryobi electric trimmer, if you run it at half throttle, the battery last 3 times as long and it still cuts clean.
Great video on the power scissors, but what I really took from your video was dealing with drought conditions on cool season grasses, I live in dighton ma and we are in a complete water ban due to severe drought conditions. I have been following you for the last year and have brought my new yard a long way this year from a new seeded yard last spring, I always turn to your videos for advice in dealing ng with certain circumstances that arise in the turf. I am a commercial landscaper that mows over 75 weekly but when it comes to my home turf I turn to your videos for advice and awesome techniques.
Love cloudy days here in Chicago, it's like a time out from a 90 plus degree day yesterday.
My Alexa rarely gets it right. We can be in the middle of a thunderstorm and she will say “no rain is expected today” when asked.
In the UK if you want a neat garden, the saying goes, it’s all about the Hedges and edges
Yes!!! Ryan well spoken and your right I believe in experimenting to find out what works and what doesn't even when people say something you cant do I just don't take there word, sometimes it's best to find the true answer 👍 since the beginning your yard has made great improvements.
I enjoy your videos. Please continue to feed us with tips and tricks for creating a good lawn.
Don’t listen to that people Ryan. I’m in Texas, your videos had help me a LOT! I absolutely understand we got different types of grass. I got Bermuda grass, so it’s time to shine for me. Keep it up man. You’re doing great!
Man, you are inspiring...I appreciate the philosophy. Your work ethic is solid and the results are there to prove it!
Good job standing up for your cool season grass! Of course it's hotter in the south but we have the grass for it. Dont let the haters on the Gram get you down.
Our neighbor in Waukee must have rye grass. His yard is dark green very early in the year and has stayed green through this drought. I water every other day, and his yard is definitely the greenest in the entire neighborhood. I was thinking about setting his yard on fire, then I decided that I'd try rye grass when I overseed this fall.
Yep cloudy sunshiny day a very good plus when you are fishing love it!
My area near Ypsilanti,Mi (southeast,MI) frequently gets blasted by microstorms. Will have drought and 0% chance of rain and bam tiny storm cloud develops and hits. I'm not complaining bc i love the rain but they knock power out almost every single time. Gotta love the great lakes.
Way to set them straight cool vs warm season!
If your Westie is like mine, they're not fond of all this hot weather (or stairs) - but do love rolling around in that cool turf. Thanks for all the tips!

Mine actually don't like the lawn much except the short cut areas and our one in particular loves to army crawl across it. haha
I really couldn’t imagine 70s in the summer. This morning it was 84 and 95% humidity. It said it felt like 97. That’s at around 8am. But we have been getting a storm almost once a day for 4-5 days and when it rains it pours. Buttttt august into sept drought usually comes for couple weeks and temps around 100. So we’ll see....
Lawn looks great! Awesome work. This heat is such a battle, but fall is coming 😁 but then the snow comes and we can’t mow 😢
I just recently have been watching your channel and have developed an OCD to take my lawn to the next level because you have motivated me! I love being outdoors and working in my yard but I love a challenge and I also like your Challenger man,American Muscle! I just wanted to say thank you for not listening to the Darrel and Debbie Downers and kept going after and continuing your pursuit of perfection, keep up the great work and I look forward to your future videos!

My KBG and Perennial Rye grass are suffering here in Va. Bring on the fall so my lawn can be the envy of the block again.
I have the Shindaiwa /Idech rotary scissors on my RYOBI 18v trimmer. I love it. It will pull the battery down quicker, however. I bought mine because I got so tired of replacing string right in the middle of a job.
I’m from Dallas and while it does get 105-115 here any honest Texan will admit that 93-95 is definitely hot! 95 is hot anywhere in the world I don’t care where you’re at.
Ryan- "This lawn is far from perfect" Me- "Sir you are greatly mistaken!"
Keep up the great work and make sure you take time to stop, have a beer, and admire your lawn. I've learned a ton from your videos and you deserve time to enjoy your results!
Yup, I'm about 20 mins south of you and can't remember a summer with this much rain. Usually don't get a drop from mid June to August

The western area has been getting pretty bad with way too much heat and no rain
Here in Northwest Arkansas we been having the same problem with rain. There has been days that Bentonville gets an inch or two of rain but surrounding towns like Rogers, Springdale or Fayetteville don’t get a rain drop. I’ve been watering my lawn.
Your an inspiration bruh. You would be so proud. I am doing my leveling and some light over seeding. I didn’t think my lawn would ever look this good. Congrats on getting to do the cyclones behind the scenes. Those guys got nothing on your lawn. 😎
Another lawn fanatic here in the United Kingdom! Your lawn is so tight and close.. it looks bloody fantastic well done chap
I have a lot of corners in my yard, especially around the garden. Can the rotary scissors get into corners?
The weather in your location seems to be about like the weather in my are (Fargo, ND). The rain always misses us. Just goes right around us every single time.
it’s been like that the last few weeks in wisconsin- same areas keep getting good rain and others keep getting missed. dry bones here- every rainstorm that comes through leaves a few drops. very sad. just got back from my iowa trip 🙂
I feel your pain. Living in Oregon 90 plus isnt common and sucks. Today is 101 however so some much needed pressure washing will be done to take advantage of fast drying
How would this tool do up against a retaining wall? I have 3 tiers in my front lawn of retaining wall and the grass grows tall and have to use string trimmer against the retaining wall and it tears up the string. Would this not work well and would blades get damaged? Just curious before purchasing something like this
We have a cloudy rain day here and it's nice hope you get rain soon buddy
I love the way you film stuff now
I've been edging pretty consistently and fighting the "drying out" in those areas. I think I'll hold off on edging for a month or so. Thanks for the idea.

I always thought it was because the concrete got so hot that it stressed the lawn in those areas.
@ryanknorrlawncare
4 жыл бұрын
It does but if your soil is raised a bit and also exposed to the heat plus the concrete, it dries out even faster from my experience
I'm with you man. I'm in the "transition" south and we get stings of 95-98 days from july thru august. I would much prefer 68 to 70s I love cool weather. You're right on the money with that sentiment.
Uh yeah. You should enjoy what beauty you have in the lawn with all of the hard work you put in! I wish my lawn looked half as good as yours 👍
Keep in mind, out west we have cool-season grass but July and August are routinely in the 90's & 100's. Add ultra-low humidity and wind and it's like a blow dryer all day on your Bluegrass. Irrigation strategies are a science out here because we can not rely on mother nature for any rain. If we get it, it's a bonus.

That's not an easy scenario either. The only benefit to dry is to water the crap out of it and fungus is not nearly the issue it is here where it's 78 overnight and like a swamp
Great video! The hard work has paid off for sure. Keep up the great content.
I know the feeling of missed rain....here around New Braunfels,TX we were looking forward to the Hurricane giving us decent rain...it went further south and we got maybe a half inch if that. I was hoping for 2 inches at least. Also love the rant LOL!!
It’s been perfect for me.. every other day we’re getting a inch of 🌧.. suppose to rain again Today 😁😁
Hard work is very true my lawn went from worst to best on my street😊
Turn the scissors vertically and do the edge trimming at the front and around the trees! You will leave behind the dedicated edge trimmer! It cuts so much cleaner. Grease every 10 hours (1-2 times a season)
Beautiful rye grass Ryan. Keep up the good work 👏🏻
In Western KY, it has been scattered thunderstorms every other day, every week of July. My grass grows at an incredible rate and I'm continuously mowing. I'm almost at the point where I just want to spray it down with grass killer and give up! haha
Do yo think it's possible to use those rotary scissors vertically to trim the edges of mulch beds?
Interesting that not edging helped. I cut an edge next to my concrete because I assumed the concrete itself was a heat source to avoid, so maybe an air gap would help. I have no empirical evidence to say it’s helped or hurt, but 🤷🏻♂️ I’ll have to keep an eye on it.

With regular watering mine has seemed to do fine and much better than exposing the edge of the soil

Ryan Knorr Lawn Care really interesting stuff. I’ll have to see how it does as summer goes on. It’s not a deep trench, so it’s probably not actually alleviating much heat transfer from the concrete. Looks wicked sharp tho.
Same here brother. No decent amount of rain since late April. I'm in eastern Ontario, Canada and it's been very hot. Lawn looks like crap. Always forecasting rain and it just never comes.
Great Yard!!! Your neighborhood looks a bit like mine. Where I'm the only one that works on my lawn regularly. Keep up the great work and journey-on....
Ryan... I remember driving to Saginaw from Chicago to pick up a car with my dad. Went through all the seasons. lol
HAHAHA Dragon says NO! No Ryan Grass. LOL Cheers Night Hawk.
I like cloudy days here as well! Cooler and you more productive
Looks great Ryan. Nice job. 👍🏽🥳
Great video !! Thanks for sharing your thoughts 💭 and how you started your reel mowing journey!!
We just got the rain an hour ago Ryan :) right as you uploaded.
I hear ya concerning rainfall. I live in central Michigan. I've watched storm after storm go north or south of me all summer long. My water bill is killing me.
Montana here with no rain for 2 weeks, and none in the next 2 weeks and all 90s. Think it's safe to say were experiencing a mini drought at least.
I love that "stripes" shirt. I finally got my lawn to show some awesome stripes after making my own roller for my riding mower. It's been brutal here in the Midwest and like you, it seems most of the storms go right the heck around us. :/
I sold them on Kawasaki trimmers years ago. Golf courses love them for water hazards no splashing
wow !!!!! looks like carpeting !!!!! I am the embarrassed owner of a weed & onion patch :( The world needs beauty and you have grown it with a BEAUTIFUL LAWN !
Can the scissors be mounted on an ego multihead? If so which head should I use?
Great Lawn Ryan, really appreciate your advice on the channel.
Quite the contrast in lawns at 8:51!
Do you have link to the wide spreader rake thing you use for the soil topping in this video around two third three way in?

I know what you mean about the weather. I live in PA and the weather seems to change by the hour. Expecting rain getting ready to treat and the forecast changes. Or we get surprise rain when there's a very small chance of any.
Lol 😂 you’re so correct you would have to see it rain 🌧 !!! I’m in the desert 🐫 west Texas lived between to Mexican borders El Paso Texas and presido Tx and I do comprehend and understand!!! Just love all your videos!!!
Brother, I feel your pain. I live in NC and the city I live in seems to be immune to rain (at least when I expect it). It can be predicted to rain and actually rain all around the surrounding areas and I get absolutely no rain whatsoever. It frustrates the dickens out of me because I have, on many occasions, laid granule fertilizer based on the weekly weather predictions. Then the last few days, we have had daily rain at a flooding rate - which is not good for fertilizing. Yeesh. What can I do??? Nothing I'm sure...
What type of grass were you cutting with the reel mower? In the process of renovating our front lawn, and still undecided on the type of grass to seed with
Haha it's been raining every afternoon for the past month where I am. My saint Augustine is looking good!
