This video accomplishes exactly what it's goal is, to raise awareness. The unfortunate animal is in poor condition and treated in a most brutal manner. I have empathy for the man doing the work, he is skilled but too rough. He gets the nail corrected very quickly. He certainly has a fear of getting kicked so dominates the animal for his protection. This is probably how he was taught and the way it's been for generations. Through awareness this method can be made more humane.

It would be cool if the The Hoof GP could go to other countries and do a clinic and educate and even get some basic tools donated. That would be amazing and also make some great friendships.

The Hoof GP trims cattle hooves, equine foot anatomy is pretty different! And horse hoof trimming uses different methods. I thought this was fascinating because i have horse/pony hoof trimming experience (don't think I ever trimmed a donkey) and this was such a totally different way to do it and the man is very skilled at what he is doing. Is it perfect, compared to a good US farrier? No but it's serviceable and a massive help to that donkey. I have seen quite a few ponies and donkeys with overgrown curled up hooves like that but never trimmed one myself. There are international veterinary groups that provide services and training to people in many countries. A UK organization is "The Brooke Charity". Look it up!

Having trimmed my share of hooves I have never seen it done this way but it makes total sense to use those tools. 👍🏻. MAN those things are SHARP too. Don’t think people realize how sharp they have to be to cut like that. Props dude. Nice job

Right?? I was watching this, gobsmacked. People are being overly dramatic by calling this "cruel" or "brutal treatment", but absolutely mistakes could be made with tools that sharp. Like a hot knife through butter, when in my head I expected it would look like chiselling wood.

@@fernandocovarrubiascomander It’s called a “buttress” and it is basically a chisel pushed by the shoulder. It’s held kinda like a rifle stock. They were used in The West up until hoof nippers finally replaced them and this farrier used his with the skill that only comes with years of practice. I know I couldn’t do half as good a job with one as he did.

Different farrier tools, nothing is brutal since the hooves are like fingernails, they don't have any actual feeling. The donkey actually probably feels much better because proper hoof size is important for leg and back health.

Twitches are used with a lot of animals and by professional animal specialists including vets because they create a chemical reaction. Endorphins are released which reduce stress and pain. At the same time the animal concentrates on the twitch so making it safer and more manageable for any procedure required to treat it. There are far greater welfare issues on show here and they are not with the hoof trimmer although I do question the wisdom of these trims but that would be a whole page of grief....

@@matokiplay2501 Yo soy de campo y puedo asegurar que es verdad lo que dices, pero es una gran irresponsabilidad dejar que le crezcan así las pezuñas al burro (cualquier animal), sin importar el uso que se les de al animal, debe de estar siempre bien cuidado...si a ese burro le hubiesen dejado un poco más las pezuñas asi, se pudo haber podrido por dentro provocando la perdida del movimiento, la extremidad o la muerte (algo parecido a la gangrena en humanos)

Wowzah! That Donkey must have been in some insane pain! I think he got injured in his wrist bones (what we think of as this animal’s heel) somehow, and his hooves had grown like this because he couldn’t put weight on it properly. So many things could’ve happened to cause this! Also, I like the tools you use in this. Makes total sense to use them in this instance. It saves you from having to smell those things up close, and besides, putting this creature into a cow crush and using a grinder on the hoof might have been uncomfortable for the donkey.

Great job on the trim! Donkey walked away happy. Happy to have nice feet and happy that process was over!

Many of these donkeys are rescues and not a lot can always be done at once to fix. Often first trim is rough for many reasons one is malformation from longterm neglect. As donkey heals and gets better nutrition, it gets easier to trim feet. Their techniques are not same as West but I don't see any trauma being added.

Donkeys are domesticated so their hooves need to be trimmed regularly, there aren’t any donkeys in nature. It’s like saying why trim your dogs claws, wolves don’t need that. The owner of the donkey should take responsibility for their animal and get a farrier to trim the hooves. It’s ethical to do that and will allow the donkey to work more effectively.

Um... there are plenty of wild (feral) burros out here in the western US. They don't generally get yearly trims. So I imagine they wear their hooves down naturally.

@@ddanbeatz186 that's mules. Mules are generally sterile and come from breeding a donkey with a horse.

They cut their own nails with the same kind of tools. It is not how we do it in the west, but is still will give the donkey relief I believe. So mission accomplished!

Really good up until the end and he left that last bit on the back hoof that he cut half off it and it really pissed me off haha 😂

Damn that farrier is rough as but he did a good job on the poor donkey's hooves.

Is no one going to comment on the fact that the guy is literally hurting this animal? You literally see him put a pain clamp on his nose to stop him moving and then hits the mule when it moves. Plus that trimmer is way to sharp! One slip and that mule is permanently crippled. Never seen a hoof trimmer that would do this. Just so much is wrong with this.
