Thank you ] so much. I have 13 parrots and used to take them to a groomer over an hour away. Talk about stress on them and me. Thank you for the video on nail trimming. I am a bit nervous but feel like I can do this. Love from upstate NY. BTW my son used to live in Naples:)

Absolutely, Mateo! I expect you will have a fabulous day too!
I was quite nervous when I started cutting my birds nails. I would hold a headlight or phone light up to the nail to see where the nerve ending was so I would know where I could cut without making the bird bleed. This method helped until I learned with each bird the nail limit, then you don’t need the light anymore. You really do only need to trim the smallest amount off.

I wonder if that would work with black nails - I think that’s a really smart way to do it! Never thought of that, although with some nails you can see the ending. I tend to cut a little look at it feel it, and then file a little more. I generally leave them such that they could really use more filing, but I don’t care. I can always come back later. I do not like making them bleed! Lol

@@ParrotBliss yes, it works with dark nails too. At least with my little ones that do have black nails. It does help to have someone else there shining the light though.
Your Macaws are so pretty This video was very informative and helpful.

Thank you! I was thrilled they flew at the perfect time!
Thanks for the information. I now thinking of taking Ivar to the avian vet. He looks like he needs more than the tips of his nails. He also needs work done on his beak. I think the product you may be thinking of to stop bleeding is “Quick Stop”. I usually just used cornstarch as the other burns.

With his delicate foot, I might do the same! And maybe the vet can show you how to take care of his special foot for the future. Yes, it may be Quick stop-

Please guide me hiw to prevent African Grey of age 16 years, old female not to pluck her feather. She started doing it since age three. I tried to use neck dress but she cut my fingers badly not to cover her neck. So what's the solution??

What species?
Hello my parrot has really long, curled nails. Is it possible to trim them back to the original lenght? Do the blood vessels grow proportional to the nail lenght? Or just the nail grows? I'm afraid there's no way back

You have to go to a vet or groomer that knows. There is a health problem here, I suspect- tho I’m not a vet. So, that is what I would do. They need trimming, but the right way and I don’t know what that is in this case. I’d want a vet to tell me what’s causing it.
I HAVE A HORRIBLE TIME!!

It takes practice and getting used to it for you and the bird
I need to trim my Severe's nails. They are brutal. I always have scratches from him.

I know what you mean!
I DO NOT agree with using a blanket or towel to cover a PARROT ...i trained my citron cockatoo to simply give me his foot to cut and or file...no pinning them down or wrapping them risking a possible wing breaking (hollow bones), eye scraping, you getting bitten....LEARN to see where the curve is on the nail to NOT make them bleed.... FYI.. your parrot understands the importance of short nails... they clip and file them themselves...observe how careful they do it and you will learn how to gain their trust to offer their feet to YOU WITHOUT towels and blankets... Patience with manual labor that lasts 10 minutes will literally turn to 2 mins and GREAT trust with your parrot

Interesting- yes, the dangers you bring up make sense though I’ve never had an issue. How did you train your Citron to give you his/her foot?
