Welcome to Parrot Bliss!
Once upon a time, my daughter got a Budgie.
I fell in love; actually I found another passion - parrots!
I currently have over 22 species; I've probably gotten to know close to 40 all together, having had different species at different times. I know what they are like, how they get along and how to care for them to increase their well-being and increase their ability to bond with people.
As a writer and teacher, and as someone who has consumed a LOT of information about PARROTS, my mission is to help you increase your blissful bond with your parrot. This decreases the need for rehoming and rescues.
It also increases your experience, the love and joy in your life, and it increases the love and care that parrots receive.
I do this through my videos, my books, journals and coloring books (www.amazon.com/s?k=Kb+raphael&i=stripbooks&ref=bnav_search_go).

Oof true, my Quaker Parrot removes every scab he finds, especially on my head an arms. It gets annoying when I have to remove parrot from my head for 20+ times and he still manages to get to the scab or worse, grabs it and when I grab the parrot, he rips scab off. Anyway, painful. Sadly, my parrot is so crazy for it that he will open wound and make it bigger. Sometimes he does it so gently that I am not noticing and then I look and there is blood. Ech parrots, little vampires.
😘 for you
My sisters swore Grandma said something to them like 10 minutes after she had passed. They both heard it but couldn't make out what she was saying but it was definitely in her voice. The video made it clear that Grandma passed gas. Granny would be rolling on the ground laughing if she knew! They WANTED it to be Grandma talking so that's what their minds did.
I wish I saw this video earlier. I got scammed trying to purchase an African Grey. And all your info here was everything that you’ve mention. How stupid of me.
@@robertabila9960 that’s too bad, I wish you had seen it too. However, it’s not stupid of you. You wanted an African grey to have as a companion. The scammers uses against people. At least now you know and in the future, you’ll have a better experience.
The parrot simply wants you to use some mouthwash
I love them so much!!!
In comparison to big channels you have less audience but I really appreciate your contents . Love from India . I have one pearly conure.
That is so much like an Australian Varied Lorikeet I could swear it was cross breed.
Since there are 50+ species of Lorikeets, I think some look similar too. Beautiful, right?
@@ParrotBliss Goldies lorry is very similar as well
They are so beautiful!!! I hope you will be breeding this pair again in the future.
They are amazing! No future plans...
She/he is adorable!!!
They are one of the best birds I've had.
IS that a Pionus? OMG, love!
Yes, White-capped
My parrotlet is bonded to my Suncheek Conure. She is 4 years old and still gets in my clasped hands at night asking to be covered by grabbing my fingers and pulling on them until they are properly placed. She would sleep there all night if I could hold my hands still for that long. I wondered if it would get annoying but after 4 years it's still just as adorable.
That is amazing! How very sweet! Yeah, too dangerous at night, too easy to roll onto them or something. It warms my heart to hear that you let her fall asleep that way-- and don't keep her all night. Love that she's bonded to your Sun!
I’m glad you’re are educating people about being aware that some pretty bad contagious diseases exist. Always quarantine and be smart about what birds your healthy parrot interact with.
It's the kind of thing you don't think will happen to you/your bird, until.... Thank you for your compliment. It means a lot.
The jungle book lady is complaining about their neighbor's noise. Hahaha. I do the same thing with the neighbor's motorcycle. Great video!
So true! LOL!!! Thanks for the laugh :)
With you all the way on assessing the situation on its merits when deciding to bring a new bird into the household, implementing quarantine arrangements and providing access to different people. Right now in Southern Australia there are a bunch of different bird flu outbreaks with the majority of cases being transferred by wild bird populations. We're seeing entire poultry farms wiped out, restrictions on domestic bird transport and the instigation of quarantine zone movement restrictions for government workers on farms throughout the region (I've closed my own farm to electricity workers and government employees/contractors). Still, there are those who think the rules don't apply to them. Being aware of the broader health environment, current warnings and potential threats to our avian companions is a responsibility we all have to protect our birds, whether the problem is predominantly external, population/genetics-driven or seasonal. If you've stopped learning, you have no business being responsible for a parrot, mammal, or any other animal companion..... period.
I'm so sorry to hear that even some poultry farms have been wiped out -- it breaks my heart for the chickens and the people. You know that I've had my experiences and I get devistated. Gutted. I keep hearing that there are new strains of PBFD and one of my vets said that if she gets one more case of PDD, she'll scream! I told her I'm paranoid right now and her facial expression said, "That is wise" followed by a verbal confirmation. People don't realize how important it is to get a bird from a reliable source-- who still can't promise 100% health. There is no such thing, but at least they do what they can and are responsible. I can't really wrap my head around people who don't take good care-- of a bird's health/hygine or another human's. What people do to one another, let alone to animals-- just the thought can keep me from sleeping at night... A, are the wild cockatoos being affected?
@@ParrotBliss It's my understanding that mostly waterfowl and migratory seabirds; ducks, native geese, gulls, terns and waders are being affected by the wild version of the flu, but that when it makes its way into chickens and turkeys, the virus mutates and become far more deadly. Since we have many, many wild waterfowl at the farm mixing with our domestic birds, transmission is a risk. Not we can do about it though.... the birds have to eat! Apparently any bird _can_ get HPAI (including parrots) but that it is not known to exist in Australian parrot populations. Scary stuff though!
Thank you for making this video. I am the one that inquired about the bird expo. I will definately keep this all in mind and ask plenty of questions if I find any birds I am interested in.
Glad it was helpful! Yes!!! Ask questions! It's hard, one the one hand, vendors are there to sell. On the other, when they care and have put care into their birds, they will want to answer or tell you how to get in contact with them afterwards to answere more questions. Good luck! LMK how it goes
❤❤❤

I didn't realize that some rescues don't actually seem to be "rescues". I don't know which direction to take now, being older I didn't want a baby bird, I was interested in rescuing a bird, now I'm not sure. One of my college aged kids wants to get involved with birds as well, maybe the shady rescue is not that answer.
Talk to Bird Gardens of Naples. Fantastic and they place birds outside Florida too. Or they will recommend a good rescue. Yeah, some are shady, but some are fantastic and I love what they do.
@@ParrotBliss Thank you so much for getting back to me. We're waiting for your book to be delivered. I will definitely reach out to the other Rescue. Best wishes.
I happened to talk to Bird Gardens and YES, she places birds outside of FL too. I would get a bird from her at the drop of a hat! And I did, and I've had people go to her and be very happy :)
@@ParrotBliss Thank you again for this information. I will be reaching out to them. BTW, I received one of your books yesterday (The Parrot Bliss Bond), I'm looking forward to reading it. 🙏👍
Which bird lives the longest?
The thing I don’t like about bird expos is, I’ve run into too many sellers that just want to sell birds. They’ll tell you anything to make a sale. I like to have some sort of relationship with the person who either is a seller or breeder. I also want someone who encourages me to ask questions and encourages me to call if I have a question post purchase. Plus, as you brought up, I’m terrified of bringing home diseases. And, I want to bring home every bird I see. That’s so funny that you had a parrotlet named Piranha! My cat’s name was Gina Piranha! She was a biter! She never used her claws.😊
I don’t think it’s fair for me to say that sellers at shows just want to sell, but I do get that feeling…
Do you think it would be friends with a gcc? I have a pair of gcc but am thinking of adding a dusky.
3 parrots means you'll have 'an odd man out'. I don't believe you can go wrong with a Dusky, but get 2! :)
I love puonus but yep hard to find, so im thinking another species similar in needs/behavior. A jardines, blue head Macaw but not sure.
I have a Blue-headed Macaw available :) They are similar in price to Pionus parrots, depending on the species. Also mellow, quiet. But BHM are more social than Pionus parrots, so you might like that, you'll have more of a cuddle factor. Never had a Jardine, they are also supposed to be fantastic - I do LOVE African species...
great ill see if i can see your contact or website so its not on your channel
Right on with you thought of 'some' rescues, iven run into ones that hoard and dont really place.
Right? It's heart-breaking. Others just want any bird that they can get 'free' and then sell. I think finding a rescue with integrity is important.
beeing trying to find a pionus seller but ive seenonly scam websites
Not easy to find- and you have to be willing to pay at least $3,000 to about double that! Depends on whether you want quiet and semi-independent or quiet (as quiet as parrots get) and more affectionate. If I was getting quieter and sweet, I'd look at Cape, Golden, Blue-head Macaw, Timneh... off the top of my head.
Birds are amazing We want to keep them happy and healthy at all times 🦜
Oh, I like you! YES!
Would be helpful if you would just focus on the specific bird you’re talking about…
Thanks for the feedback - I try to give a broader pic, but I hear you.
How is the Dusky Head Conure doing? I am looking to add either a Dusky or an Indian Ringneck to my flock. I have a pair of green cheek conures now. Obviously theyd be in separate cages and all that.
I’m trying to get info on my quakers parrots on how to determine male and female
You have to DNA, they are sexually monomorphic
❤❤❤
You are the best!
I did an research about the peach fronted head conures. I have one and is look the same as yours. The are making alot of noise....😅
They can- are they new to you?
@ParrotBliss i have 2 pairs that live in 2 separate cages. Im planning on putting them in one large cage. Ive been bringing their cages together daily and letting them out to see how they interact. The male of one couple is adamant to groom and feed the female of the other pair. No agression but i feel bad for the partners, its like im watching an affair! 😄 so i dont know if they will go ok in all together
Yeah, they have preferences. Don't worry, if 2 pair up, the other 2 probably will too.
@@ParrotBliss the problem I'm having is when i put the pairs back in their cages the male that is keen on the others female is now lunging at the female he was so snuggly with when i bought them, and his female chases the male of the other pair. This is outside of cages on neutral grounds I'm abit worried when or if I put them all together.
cute
Thanks!

We have an 8 year old Parrotlet and we are thinking of getting him a companion. Any suggestions?
Get an adult. Hard as an adult to make friends with a young one. :) Glad you are getting him a companion, he will love it no matter what.
Was curious on thought of getting a bird from bird expos. This one I am looking at seems to been around awhile, wondering if vendors are usually reputable at these.
I find that it’s not the place- there are people who practice good husbandry and people who don’t at all levels. I’m sure there are both kinds at a show. Be cautious to make sure you get as healthy and happy a bird as possible.
@@ParrotBliss Thank you. Also I didnt even think of it before I asked my question at least seeing what vendors are there I wlll be able to look up reviews of the vendors(for what it's worth) as a little extra step of caution. 🙂
When I got my Hahn's from a breeder 20 years, the breeder was trying to sell one of her Severe's Macaw which she intended as a breeding pair, the Severe's although male and female just did not like each other.
I just commented on the video you released today (7/17), asking about these guys. Are they available? If so, what is the best way to move forward? Thank you.
Hi, I too agree with you that every bird needs a friend. I have two of each. I just lost my one parotlette unexpectedly last night and his cage mate which they were only five month old, Delilah cried for pistachio last night. I’m just wondering how long do I let her mourn I get her another mate?
I have one bird, a 21/2 yr old black headed male. We jokingly call him Mr. Testosterone. He has to be out with girls. If I let him out with a male he immediately goes on the attack. Caique fights are not cute. He was raised with the flock and his cage is next to Floki, a hen and her cage mate, Hrafna. He’s fine in the cage as long as the males are caged. Mr. Testosterone doesn’t have any real friends. The females tolerate him. The females quickly put him onto his place when he gets pushy. It’s an interesting dynamic. I’ve pretty much reconciled myself to just accept him as he is. With us he’s a crazy Caique but shows affection by surfing, beak rubbing and licking. He’s also the best talker. I know Tom Dockery has some birds that are so aggressive he’s had to put plexiglass between cages. So, I’ve come to think that like people some will be buddies and others won’t.😊😊😊
@@1hawaii21 I agree, they really are like people that way. And, like I always say, there’s just no accounting for personality. Like people, they all have different personalities and there’s nothing anyone can do to change that. Not the same as a bad history, which, as you know, can be changed! You have such a good example of both!
I am just learning about parrots/birds and have been consuming your videos for a while now. Thank you for the wonderful work you do and the honest experiences you show everyone. I am retired but not very old, and I've had some dog training experience over the years. I see the differences between dog and bird training and enjoyed the videos from Cesar Millan regarding his birds and dogs. The Macaws in this video are beautiful and interesting. Would these birds make good first birds for someone that is home all day, every day, and interested in keeping birds as pets? My youngest is in college and is also interested in parrots/birds. He would be getting involved with whatever bird(s) we were to get, for his own interest and for the possibility of the birds outliving me. The birds would already be used to him and there wouldn't have to be a major transition if they outlive me. What is your opinion on having these birds as first birds, in this particular situation. Thanks very much. We really appreciate everything you put out for others to view and learn from. 🦜 👍
@@notsosilentmajority1 hello! I’ve been surprised as to what fabulous birds the Blue-headed Macaws are. Thank you for watching and for the compliment! So, you know that I love birds and love a lot of species. I do think that these guys would be excellent first time Birds for someone who is going to put the time in. They are so big that they’re going to be intimidating and they aren’t little birds. They have a lot of personality. I think you would love one!
@@ParrotBliss I finally found your website. I'm sending a message via email. Thanks again.
Which is easier to teach to talk? I need a bird that will annoy my kids so they stop annoying me! lol Thx
African Grey
Good content but the voice cant be heard due to background noise like strong wind😢
Sorry
I just bought a 3 month old baby parrotlet male in cobalt blue, he seems very quiet although he does seem to be eating and drinking, he isn’t scared when i put my hand in his cage but stays put and doesn’t really vocalize much at all, this is my first parrotlet, I’m just concerned for his well fare is this normal behavior?
Does second parrot need to be the same species or other species with similar size will also be good to bond?
Are caiques quieter that green cheek conures?
What do you recommend for being quieter green cheek Conure sir caique parrots? Amazing video!
Green-cheek
I’m getting a golden conure(queen of Bavaria) soon
You are very fortunate!
You have two very talented dancing caique's. ❤😊
They are a source of happiness ❤️
I would like to ask are baby Quakers tail less for a while?
No, but they start with short tails
