Play on for many more years Tommy. You and Randy Rhoads were a force of nature in Ozzy's '81 Blizzard Tour. Miss Randy tremendously.

Tommy is a 'power' drummer who in his own words "plays to the nose bleed section"...hence the grand exaggerated movements (this is entertainment right?). His cv speaks for itself; in his field he is one of the best. I've played drums in this genre for over 25 years (my arms are killing me!)😂 & having witnessed this guy close up I can assure you that nobody hits/works harder than Tommy Aldridge (and I've literally sat right behind the great Thomas Lang at a masterclass). This guy doesn't need triggers to be heard over the band, he's a lovely honest guy & still slamming it nearly 30 years later; I'm sad that I feel compelled to defend him amongst fellow drummers. Haters will hate I guess.😔✌🏻️

Well lots of interesting comments, i have played over 40 years and have worked with some great musicians, i knew tommy way back in the day with pat travers band, and seen him live several times even with ted nugent. He is an amazing drummer and always has been good to see he is still at it and has the chops. Lessons....? The best lessons is watching those you most admire and learning from them. And a not to all who are comparing some of the greats......john bonham was the first drummer to play a triplet which is a staple of all drummers today. It is not what you can and can not play it is simply how you play it and to each style that a drummer has.

Say what you will about Tommy, but the reality is that the dude means what he plays. At the base of it all, that's what makes a musician great. It's the reason why John Bonham was such a great drummer, regardless of the fact that he couldn't do a fraction of what Thomas Lang does.

  • @weiht6767

Add Virgil Donati to that list!! You dont have to hate or put down someone just to prove that the other is better! This is a tribute, like John Norum's to Gary Moore. Is he better? Does it matter? Celebrate the music and the respect amongst musicians who put their egos aside. Is john bonham lousier than Carmine Appice? Since Carmine is his hero. Tommy is one of my favourtie drummers, but that doesn't stop me to enjoy others like Vincent Colaiuta, who I think smokes all others.

Tommy is a hard rock drummer and it does have a narrow focus but he has done this for a long time and is amazing at this type of music,Tommy developed the over the head snare drum downbeat because he played huge festivals and it added to the effect of playing in front of 60,000 + people, they could see him playing better, otherwise it would be boring and this was before large video screens we have now.

Good answer. The fact is you should be able to play to some degree on any instrument without lessons if you've chosen right. Lessons should be an advance rather than a tutorial. I always ask my drum puplils who/what they like. Some can't even answer that. My advice is never turn down a gig!

The bass drum "bounce" is missing like most who try to cover Bonham. It doesn't matter HOW it was recorded...if you're gonna play it, cop that bounce and slow the tempo down. That said. Tommy is the last vestige of a pure rock drummer left. Most of these cats do not last...TA still plays today the way he did in 1978! That is amazing.

+lukemanify Saw him back in the day with BOA....still one of my all time favorite drummers. Story goes...when Amet Ertegun signed BOA ( only one of five groups in his career) he replaced their first drummer (who Amet felt was the weak link) with 18 year old Tommy Aldridge. What a ride for a kid straight out of high school!

inner communication and expression psychiatric most closely related to us is the music, the poetry and prose were revealed by an appreciation of the skills cultivate the imagination, that intuition, namely self-awareness in an alibi concerning the personality and the environment and all that terkadi around it, that description from the legacy of knowledge that I came from the first to enter that world still survive, although a state where I reside does not allow them to be able to accept and understand me, need an environment that can compensate my understanding of life !!
