Geoffrey Arnold Beck (24 June 1944 - 10 January 2023) was an English guitarist. He rose to prominence as a member of the rock band The Yardbirds, and afterwards founded and fronted The Jeff Beck Group and Beck, Bogert & Appice. In 1975, he switched to an instrumental style with focus on an innovative sound, and his releases spanned genres and styles ranging from blues rock, hard rock, jazz fusion and a blend of guitar-rock and electronica.
Beck was ranked in the top five of Rolling Stone and other magazines' lists rankings of the greatest guitarists. He was often called a "guitarist's guitarist". Rolling Stone described him as "one of the most influential lead guitarists in rock". Although he recorded two successful albums (in 1975 and 1976) as a solo act, Beck did not establish or maintain commercial success like that of his contemporaries and bandmates. He recorded with many artists.
Beck earned wide critical praise and received the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance six times and Best Pop Instrumental Performance once. In 2014, he received the British Academy's Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music.[10] He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: first as a member of the Yardbirds (1992) and secondly as a solo artist (2009).
Beck died from a bacterial meningitis infection at a hospital near Riverhall on 10 January 2023, at the age of 78. Within minutes of his death announcement, musicians and friends began paying tribute; Jimmy Page wrote that "The six stringed Warrior is no longer here for us to admire the spell he could weave around our mortal emotions. Jeff could channel music from the ethereal. His technique unique. His imaginations apparently limitless. Jeff I will miss you along with your millions of fans." Mick Jagger expressed his condolences, writing "With the death of Jeff Beck we have lost a wonderful man and one of the greatest guitar players in the world. We will all miss him so much." Ronnie Wood, a former bandmate of Beck's, stated "Now Jeff has gone, I feel like one of my band of brothers has left this world, and I’m going to dearly miss him."

Johnny Depp used to quote Marlon Brando, "life is a birdsong", it lasts such a short time. Jeff Beck's life was a truly beautiful birdsong that lasted a lifetime and beyond. ❤️

His death shakes me to my core. I’m 63 and I’ve known Jeff since I was 15. I always thought he was immortal. His music, his style, his grace and love will live forever.

The world has lost a guitar icon... so sad, I can't believe he's gone. As a deep listener and guitarist for over 40 years, I've always said Jeff is the most expressive player I've ever heard. He really is 'one of one'. He will be missed by many millions of fans and musicians, and his legacy shall shine for many decades. RIP master, and thank you for all the wonderful music.
Nobody has ever played guitar like Jeff Beck. He hits all the right notes all the time. He has notes on his guitar nobody else has! REST IN PEACE, Jeff Beck!

Yeah, pretty amazing talent. There was never going to be a 'Jeff Beck copycat', however I'm sure he inspired a lot of great artists.

God I have never been so upset by an entertainer passing we all thought that Jeff was immortal like his playing, god I really feel there is a void in my life.

I am still finding it very hard without Jeff Beck music I have followed him from the very beginning and I will miss him so very much you are the greatest I know a lot of people like the song Bolero but there is so much more to him than that song which was great by the way I send my condolences to his family friends wife I don't know if he had children and special condolences to Johnny Depp
Such a talented and kind man. Will never forget his playing of Nessum Dorma and Luciano Pavarotti singing. He was always happy with his "friend" the guitar. He is missed!!😢😢
Jeff was one of those exceptionally rare human artists who played with ecstasy. He touched ecstasy through playing music + his amazing blessings, skills & gifts. A beautiful, present, humble dude with enough confidence & gentle ego to do what he did. He was still sounding wonderfully playful, vital, powerful, connected & “channeling the divine” during his last concerts ♥️🎸✨
I was absolutely devastated when I heard the sad news... I´m 63 and I bought "Blow By Blow" and "Wired" (which is still my no 1, because of the mixture of that raunchy Funk and - of course - "Good Bye Pork Pie Hat") back in the 70s and still have the records on my shelf and on my turntable. Saw him twice in Berlin and he always kept on amazing me. His ability to switch the sounds to his liking, the use of all that music has to offer and - last but not least - having women in his band, not for shows, but because they add to his music -> Tal!!! was what kept him unique. The best came together on many stages world wide.. made records tapes and cd’s ans finally digital recordings.. you’ve seen it all.. you’ve done it all.. I know you had more to give .. Wishing RIP doesn't make it so...
I was lucky enough to see/hear Jeff Beck perform twice. He gave 100% of his gift to his audience, and you could easily tell when you were at a Jeff Beck concert, bcuz you could hear a Pin Drop while he played. He'll be Sorely Missed by Millions - a Musical Genius. R.I.P. Jeff.

Although I admit I wanted to see JD, Jeff played with ZZ Top here in Austin opening the US tour. Mind=Blown! Jeff Becks music is a spiritual awakening. So glad I got to see one of the most iconic guitar legends play before their passing. Who knew? 💔 Thank you for all your music over the years...I'm old enough to appreciate the journey 🙏

As a 70 year old man I really don’t listen to much music nowadays. Uninspiring. So out of all my old CD’s that I have,for I know the last 7-8 years I keep one in my Jeep’s radio. This has been on my mind since we lost Jeff Beck. Just a very few months ago I had this sort of premonition that we would lose him relatively soon. My paternal grandmother had these things happen to her constantly. God Bless you Jeff.
Beautiful tribute! Iconic superb inventive fast guitarist! Noticed Jeff Beck in The Yardbirds on tv, when I was 6. Oddly - 1/8/23-dreamed of a Jeff - nice soft spoken, artist, musician, running up/down stairs/outside - as if getting his house in order.

It was his kindness and humility that stands for me. I saw him perform at a small venue in the North of England and he loaned his drummer to the young support band who were performing that night and they were ecstatic what a nice gesture

Jeff was my very favorite guitarist growing up as a teen starting with the Yardbirds. I thought his guitar playing was outstanding. I actually saw him live in person 4 times. I bought a Sears guitar and amplifier because I thought that if I practiced enough I could be as good as Jeff Beck. I used to practice with a group of guys in a building where dances were held with popular bands nearby. It was really fun. Unfortunately life got in the way. I ended up leaving home and going to College. I still listened to Jeff Beck and still do to this day. He will always be my favorite guitarist! I recently had to have a MRI and they asked me what music I wanted to listen to I said Jeff Beck. So while I was getting my MRI I was listening to Beck's Bellero.

All the top guitarist in the world, that we know of, Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Knophler, etc, etc, all have they’re own ways + style of making their guitars “sing” to us, that made them unique to us fans. However, (for me) it’s hard for me to seperate Jimi and Jeff. They are definitely the top two. Jeff was more a part of my youth, and therefore I lean more towards him. He made it all look so effortless, with his cheeky grin. Jeff, you were great, and will be truly missed. Every cloud up there in heaven will surely have a silver lining now. RIP. 🙏🏼

I heard Jeff Beck live in concert in Los Angeles at the old Shrine Auditorium in 1966 when Rod Stewart was his lead singer. It was when his album Truth on Epic Records came out. Changed my life. I was stunned by his music and guitar!! Rest in peace Jeff. You will be missed!❤
