    My mom went through something like this. Dad left her for her younger best friend after a 3+ year secret affair. Mom had to move out and dad bought a fancy new house for him and the new girlfriend. The two of them continued to conspire against my mom and rub it in her face how happy they were and that mom was just jealous. My mom pretty much lost it too. She obviously didn’t kill them but she was pretty hysterical for years. And i have a very low conflict easy going mom. After a few years off acting pretty hysterical she finally calmed down and came back to her normal easy going self. But still when someone brings up dad and new wife he is still with, it is still hard for her. I think it has been the most traumatic thing that ever happened to her. I kind of sympathise with Betty.

  • @anglophils645

    @anglophils645

    Жыл бұрын

    She didn't "flip". She had been divorced for five years, when she went over to Dan's house, and killed him and his new, second wife. She had deep emotional and psychological problems, that can only come from childhood. If you have a strong sense of self from your parents, you will never become obsessed and desperate to hang on to a man, the way Betty did about Dan. You'd say, "Good-by, good riddance, you know where to send my check", and get on with your life. She had a beautiful house, four children who loved her, other friends and family who loved her, and $14K per month in alimony--and still couldn't move on. Her parents created someone with no self-confidence, and no self-love. They created someone very insecure and personality-disordered. She can't admit a mistake. She is so insecure that she still cannot admit that killing the father of her children was wrong. Therefore, she has never been paroled. She'd have been released from jail years ago, if she had ever said that she was wrong, and sorry for what she had done. she still says that it was all Dan's fault.

    If she wanted "to get away from them" why was she constantly calling, threatening, and harassing them? Why didn't she just leave THEM alone? The only person Betty Broderick was being victimized by was Betty Broderick. Dan and Linda may have been insensitive jerks, but it was Betty who was driving herself crazy. I noticed she turned on the poor little boy too when he reminded her she left them all at the dad's doorstep.Her obsession is very clear.she's where she belongs. I personally think she was capable of harming her children too. The father was correct in seeking full custody. He was so correct, he's not alive anymore.

How about be faithful to your marriage and treat each other with respect, put God/Jesus and the church ahead of your marriage, then the marriager, then the kids. you cant have a successful marriage if cheating is involved andc that doesnt happen if you put God first and then your marriage. no time to cheat, you honor your vows. thats the moral of the story

    Many comments here are totally void of personal responsibility. Whether it's a man or a woman -- we all have total control over our own responses to anything that happens to us. Betty poured contemptuous gasoline over a fire that would have burned out, although the children's lives were ruined with this nasty divorce. Every thing she lost when Dan divorced her was entirely her own fault. He would have worked with her and Betty would have ended up financially comfortable and stable, although she would never have gotten what she demanded and thought she deserved. She never ever put those kids first. Betrayal in a marriage is zero justification or defense for her actions. She vandalized property -- repeatedly on tape threatened to kill him (I heard them -- very believable) -- dumped off kids vindictively on his doorstep -- and intentionally placed those kids in the middle of her vile threats and rage against Dan. There is no sympathy that is deserved for Betty. She is without a soul and absolutely remorseless. Betty still believes she deserved everything of value she had when married to Dan, and that she had a right to do anything to either get it back, or to get revenge on him. Save your sympathy for the children --and for the dead people she viciously and intentionally murdered.

    I got to viewing on YT about this case, generally recalling it being in the news when it occurred but not following it. Someone suggested the Netflix series 1 of Dirty John, and the 2nd season is Brodericks. (The first was a case from Newport Beach just N of S.D.) They used different actresses for young adult and middle adult, and it seemed like her behaviors and demeanor were very different which seemed more script than actress, and was perhaps oversight and due to different actresses. At the time this occurred I was recovering from an illness that had unknown cause and it co-occurred with Melody Beaty coming to my University town touring the book Codependent No More. Later I'd learn the term "Identified Patient", and see how it applied to my parents and my process after reading the book. I focused on the identified problem person and literally worked through decades of issues from the one (mother), and got done and realized I needed to repeat for the less obvious (father). On Netflix it shows him telling friends she wouldnt kill him because he was the money source for her. He had not set the alarm system that night and probably others. Did he feel immune from what happens to many in his situation? Was that his PD at play? His becoming or staying friends with people she knew can be a PD thing but it also could be they felt a need to network to help her and talk to each other. Two of them got pagers per the series, for the purpose of intervening if needed. And since that time, the info about NPD has branched out to include more introverted types. I think theres more to the story if more interviews were done with people from the 1950s, 60s, 70s.

    One thing parole boards look for first and foremost is remorse. Betty has never shown that, not even once. She has taken no responsibility for the murders of two people. The true victims here are the children, caught up in a adult dangerous game they had no part in but will suffer from for the rest of their lives. That business of "oh I was going to kill myself" she got right out of the Jean Harris playbook--the woman who killed the man who invented the Scarsdale diet. She did exactly the same thing, murdered him when he tried to dump her then said she went there to kill herself. I just heard for the first time recently that Betty actually had another relationship she was in during all of this after Dan left her. Poor wretched guy whoever he was, but Jesus if she can manage to snag a guy with that kind of baggage in her life, wow. Part of me feels for her especially during the times Dan was obviously running around on her then messing with her mind and calling her crazy. That came back to bite him because he obviously had no idea how dangerous she really was, didn't make sure she didn't have access to the house, no alarm system? And an angry exwife who had said she was going to kill him dozens of times. So many lessons to learn here.

    I’m kind of Team No One here; everyone acted badly in one way or another… buuuuuuut you can absolutely see the trauma Betty put the kids through and that was BEYOND not okay. That phone call with the son broke my heart, this was her own SON, crying and begging her to just let it all go so they can heal, and she starts gaslighting him and saying that his dad had ruined him as a person! Like how are kids supposed to respond to that? “The person that you love, and you share half his DNA, is a jerk and I won’t ever let you forget it.” So helpful, Mom! The daughters seem exhausted and like they had to grow up really fast and really suddenly, and that there was a lot of role reversal. They clearly parented their mother much more than she parented them. I don’t know how old they are here, probably both early 20s, but the fatigue and grief in their eyes make them seem so much older. I mean just imagine getting a frantic phone call from your mom at 7am and she’s like “help i just killed your father”. I don’t know if my first reaction would be “alright Mom, come on over, we’ll figure this out”. They clearly felt they had to care for her and put their own grief and horror aside.

However, she had no control over this man. She wanted to force this marriage to work because she put her whole self worth and life into it. That is where the desperation came from, she was running from this pain of rejection and abandonment. She let that take highest priority over anything, including her children. Too bad she gave in. Too many women (and men) don't realize their goals because they move too fast into a relationship. Ladies, and gents, take time to get to know someone. I realize back when Betty got married most goals for women were to just get married and have kids. But now, learn to rely and support yourself. If you know you can take care of yourself you at least have an out if this or abuse happens. You are as unhinged as she is. She wasn't forced to marry Dan, she chose badly, he was an unworthy husband. He wanted out of the marriage, let him go, take as much money as you're entitled to, start again and do better next time, should you decide to enter into another relationship. It benefits no one at all to remain in a marriage with a man who neither loves or respects you. What has she achieved? She damaged the lives of her children and has spend decades in prison instead of enjoying the freedom divorce from Dan would have given her. The lives of Dan and his wife wasn't worth what she sacrificed.
