Have you or your partner got malignant narcissistic borderline personality disorder like Betty? The reason I say that is because haven’t lived with someone like that then can’t imagine what a living hell that is. It’s nowhere the same as your partner just deciding to go off with someone else.

Betty appears to be a VERY controlling bully, I don't think Dan ever cared for it but how things change when someone else points out the flaws you have grown to ignore/accept. You have to love yourself harder than the anger, or it will consume you.

She probably won't ever be released. The parole board would have to approve it and it's as well-known case, so I doubt they'll grant her release. Then again, they let Leslie Van Houten out of prison, so they might someday let Betty out too (she was involved in the Manson Family murders)

Dan Broderick was certainty intelligent enough to see that his ex-wife was disturbed, and that his behavior (and to some extent, Linda's as well) was driving her further over the edge. He knew that she had purchased a gun and threatened to use it, and yet despite the fact that he could very well afford it, didn't bother to have an alarm/surveillance system installed, or to even get a guard dog, thus putting both himself and his "newborn" bride in danger. Dan's grearest weakness was his own arrogance. Betty Broderick was pregnant consistently throughout a considerable part of their marriage, and while she brought four healthy children into the world and doted on them in every conceivable way, she also had several miscarriages and lost an infant shortly after it was born; her husband was out of town and Betty had to deal with the loss alone. Betty most likely had undiagnosed & untreated postpartum depression for many years as well as some unresolved grief. As a divorce attorney, Dan knew just how to stick it to the opposing side and enjoyed shafting his estranged wife at every turn. He was also in many ways a controlling, self-absorbed, greedy, sadistic and self-righteousness jerk who had to be right and had to get all the marbles; winning at all costs was everything; that's what made him such a successful attorney. That and the many sacrifices Betty made along the way so he could have it all. Betty knew instinctively that Dan was cheating on her with Linda, but he lied, gaslighted and belittled her for the very purpose of breaking her down. That was his cruel and heartless way of winning, of getting what he wanted; his lack of loyalty and absence of gratitude for the partner that had served him well all those years and through so many obstacles was astonishing. The money Betty was granted was consistent with the exorbitant income that Dan currently made, after both of them had worked so hard to achieve wealth. But nothing could bring back the years that Betty had sacrificed so much for, the opulent life style she had aspired to, or reverse the physical toll of multiple pregnancies, or retain the husband that her identity was so entangled with. Dan got the career and social status he craved without having to sacrifice the children that allowed him to be a father as well as a husband. Dan and the children were Betty's career, but she had lost her husband, her social status and her dignity, all so that her unfaithful husband could start over with a woman that strongly resembled Betty in her youth. The unfairness of it all, the breathtaking betrayal was her unraveling. It's easy enough in hindsight to state that Betty should have just "moved on" as others before have done ; the sad reality was that Betty was too far gone to pick up the pieces after Dan abandoned her. Dan and Linda humiliated her, making fun of her weight gain and erratic behavior. They enjoyed taunting her and the result was she snapped, killing them in an enraged response to the position they put her in, namely that of the abandoned, disgarded and pitiable ex-wife, something that the already unhinged Betty found completely and utterly intolerable. Do I blame Dan for what happened to him and Linda; no, but I do hold him accountable for the appalling way he treated her. I believe that he asked for it in a myriad of ways, and Dan almost always got what he wanted. Almost.

@dianekeane7740 thanks for such a superb analysis. I definitely agree with you. Betty was brought down to the brink of destruction, emotionally, financially, and legally, all due to the cruel tactics of his new bride and his legal connections. She stood one woman alone, abused, verbally abused as well. Remorse should never be a valid reason to deny parole to Betty. Remorse, why, when she was treated so harsh, worse than a rabid dog! No remorse is totally acceptable. Free Betty this next parole hearing, it’s Time that the abuse of Women STOPS. And that even means no matter what the husband’s position is in the legal community. Verbal Abuse, emotional abuse MUST never be tolerated by any attorney with such high connections to the legal system or its affiliates thereof! Plain and simple…….

I have now lived long enough to have empathy towards Betty Broderick and her plight....As someone born in the Gen X era, women were taught quite differently in comparison to today's women.. Our husband and children became our complete definition of ourselves...So having suffered at the hands tremendously of both now...i get how this could have driven her to these things in a way my younger less experienced self could not have grasped....She started out this beautiful young woman, who was abused and probably felt fragmented and confused by her husband's behavior towards her...Although i do not get today's modern woman approach persay, i do think giving up your life, youth, beauty and future to sacrifice for very ungrateful people can feel like and be interperted as betrayal!! If i could go back to my younger self, i would instruct her to love and put her self first. ...kids leave without much gratitude, husbands divorce and move on....take care of yourself , spiritually, mentally, financially and physically. Love you most after God of course.....

Betty only had her husband her children. Bearing 5 children, out of which one died prematurely is very tough. She was a hard worker, sole breadwinner when her husband was full time student for almost a decade. Her life revolved around her family. Her husband in some ways used her. Maybe I am wrong. But I feel sorry for the whole family. They could have patched things up and lived a wonderful life if her husband didn't have an affair and later married to his new girlfriend. All the sacrifices made by Betty were made meaningless by her husband. That's so unfair. Her biggest mistake however was taking law into her own hands. Some people totally take Betty's side. Both parents were to blame. Her husband had a great advantage being a big shot lawyer. Life for each of them was about how much money and power and control you could have. Why do people bring children into the world when all they can offer them is suffering? Betty did not love her children, or she would have been satisfied to let go and rebuild her life and enjoy her kids. Betty's actions caused her to lose her children in every step of the way. She doesn't mind her prison sentence because in the end, she got her final say and desired wishes. I hope the children see how selfish she is and build a life far away from her. Her hate for loss of control destroyed many innocent lives.😢 Shame on Betty.

I feel sorry for Betty. I certainly know it takes two to tango and she is certainly no saint. Now I certainly don't think murder was the answer. I don't believe anyone should take a life unless in self defense and you fear for your own life. I do believe that Betty "lost it". I do think she was mentally abused by Dan. I don't think Dan was the nice guy like some want to have you think. First, he should have kept it in his pants, and second, Linda should NOT have been messing around with a married man. That speaks volumes about Linda and knowing he was married with 4 children. I do believe Linda was not good to Betty and being the young immature age Linda was - yeah I can see her sending those nasty things to Betty. So you had a woman here "Betty" who was already broken and Dan and Linda is going to try to break her more? That was not a wise decision because all they did is drive an already stressed out disturbed lady to MURDER. The true heartbreak here is the children. I have so much empathy for the children having to go through something like this. I wished it had never happened. Betty is paying for her crime and has spent many years in prison. I would like to see her get out and try to re-build her life and re-build her life with her children. Betty sacrificed so much to this marriage and worked hard while he was climbing the latter to success. Then she throwed away like an old shoe and replaced with younger leather. Sad! Just like not allowing her attorney to argue she was abused. That was all about her ego. Because in her mind, she wasn’t some desperate woman living in a trailer park being hit by a man in a wife beater tank. And even once in prison, she did things that have really hurt her appeal. If she and Dan fought, she surely dished it back out like a pro. She wasn't a sweet little abused lady. Plus, Betty herself said that Dan never even looked at another women til he met Linda. By that point he was ready to move on from the screaming psycho that Betty was and still is. And all the hate commenters have for Linda is only based on what Betty says about her. The fact, also, that she is 76 now, is more proof that this is a lady that should be out of the prison system, which does not go out of its way for the elderly seniors. This case incident happened on November 05, two (2) days prior to Betty’s own birthday, which reflects, to me, the severe emotional trauma of constant duration, that all those current stresses of humiliation and tormented abuse, hindered her mindful reasoning, destroying her thinking clearly processes whereby her nervous system automatically took over and sense of perception of what , who, when; where am I? She was a victim just like a lost lamb, almost to be viewed as a sleep walker, not physically nor emotionally there, to be a fully competent being, of rational mind and actions. Her frame of mind, her capacity for reasoning, was as fractured at that split second, as equally damaging to her entire brain reactivity from the point of human destruction, for which she felt helpless. There was no control left for her mind to have any access to, each part was shred to pieces that evening. A bundle of emotional nervous response driving her further down the road of insanity. She is a. Victim, not a murderer. The mind, when under constant duress, cannot be forced to handle an ounce of more of the same. Rather, it Snaps, enters irrational behavior territory automatically on its own. It takes over, eliminating self-control, self-knowledge - it puts oneself at its own “Twilight ZoneCapacity..” a foreign place! The complexity of the brain when enduring severe duress is not being totally explored here and it does have its place in this case. Severely mentally handicapped is the result that has been overlooked. Abuse of a female takes all forms, coping skills are different for each successive stressor encroached upon said humans, their brainwaves, their sympathetic nervous system. This lady has been fully abused enough, to further abuse Betty Broderick by demanding she must meet remorse as the criteria for her release is just one more further abuse upon a woman that needs to go home!

Betty was violent all throughout that marriage. She locked him out of the house and threw things at him when he pissed her off. She had serious anger issues, and over time, he wanted out. He buried himself in work to cope with it. If you look at their family photos, he looked very unhappy in the latter years of their marriage. Linda came along and that ignited the fire in him to leave Betty. After the divorce was finalized, Betty still wouldn't let him go. She constantly harassed him and then twisted it to make her look like the victim. There are no voice-mails of him or Linda harassing her. She said that they called her names but there is no evidence of that. The kids didn't testify that they did that. Betty's friends also didn't testify about him verbally abusing her. She wanted everything her way all of the time. The people supporting her are not seeing the truth. Dan and Linda can't tell their side. Also, Betty has never once shared any concern whatsoever about how this affected the children. It's all about me...me...me... with her. She's a narcissist and that's why.

I do feel for Betty Broderick. Dan Broderick took advantage of her, exploited her as a wife, mother, housewife, cleaning lady, nanny, etc. Betty Broderick supported him when he was still a student by taking over his typing. She got him ready for his state exam and studied with him day and night. She helped him to pursue a career as a lawyer by working alongside the house and family and supporting him. She was his financial and moral support while he had been acting like an irresponsible boy. He gaslighted and ended up being very ungrateful and exchanged her with his young secretary. Dan Broderick was a sociopath and a psychopath.

It would appear that she is still presenting sociopathic /narcissistic tendencies as per the psychiatric reports . A clear danger to herself and more importantly to others . Naturally her defence team are going to make claims of “battered woman syndrome” but ask yourself this …….would you be prepared to have this seemingly disturbed , if not deranged woman living in your community , so angry that despite her now age , may well be capable of anything? Does she pose a threat to her children who have been destroyed by her and must continue to live in fear of that which she is capable ? Have you even watched the trials ? Do you have any legal and psychiatric qualifications to justify your “free Betty “ comment . Do you even know her or is this just a bandwagon for you and others? I don’t doubt your good intentions born of your interpretation of the events but I suggest that you address the cold hard facts of her proven character , her marriage and her behaviour and attitude . So she tried to MAKE him listen to her and he had pushed her over the edge and she just exploded in panic from all of his and Linda’s taunting of her. They took her life and she took theirs. Too many times they put cases close to holidays when jurors want to be at home, shopping, cooking, decorating, greeting overnight guests, relatives, grown children, or traveling to another state for holiday visitation. At those time periods, lengthy time consuming cases should not take place to prevent any cause for a rushed verdict! The general public as jurors should not be forced to rush such conclusions of verdicts due to the normal holiday response to be home with loved ones. That’s so unfair, yet, I have noticed this as factual! I saw 2nd trial was Dec. ll th, verdict reached - just as I thought holiday time, jurors want to be with family. A known court tactic used to acquire results deemed. Same in Richard Tuite second trial close to a holiday so he was freed and is still a danger on our streets pushing his cart along, talking to the air!

Abuse is something that the abused has FELT-BUT if one being abused has come to the place where their thinking has changed DUE to abuse-they will not recognize they were being abused UNTIL their thinking is changed to understand. It is very tedious-for one can be taught ti think abuse is ANYTHING one doesn’t like, then one can think that beatings is justified as they should not have said or done something that made the other mad.
