Trestles Beach - Maybe the best surf spot in California

Trestles Beach is the northern part of San Onofre State Beach, San Diego county. The easiest way to access the beach is from San Clemente in Orange County.
San Onofre State Beach was created in 1971 when president Richard Nixon signed a 50 year lease agreement between the US Government and the State of California. Ronald Reagan was the governor at that time. The lease expires in 2021. Most people have no idea, but Trestles beach is in fact part of the Camp Pendleton Marine Base, so Semper Fi to all Marines!
Trestles it is one of the best surf spots in southern California, if not in the continental USA. To get there you have to walk almost a mile. Many surf competitions are held there every year. The beach itself is named after a former wooden trestles train bridge. It was replaced with a concrete viaduct in 2012.

Sometimes in Sou Cal we take our beaches for granted . Your respectful and kind of a physical beast . U walked a long way . I subbed . You have a great way of looking at life

I do love this video. I watched it b/c I want to go to trestles but was not sure about the walk. Please keep in mind that many people cannot make that walk and back b/c of various chronic injuries/disabilities. I have a terrible back and I cld walk out there but coming back would be very painful. And it is not in my head and cannot be fixed and I am in shape. It is a degenerative spine, it cannot be stopped either. I wish there was a shuttle.

During some contests they do have pay parking, a free shuttle to and from, food vendors and bathrooms.

It is scary. It is not in service, but they still pump out radio active waste in the water and call it safe.

Hi, never been there but looks like a nice place for a day trip. You accessed at one piont and walked north? I'd like to take my kids out and want to get away from the crowd. Is there a way to access the area towards end of video without walking through the entire surf beach area?

Drive in to the state park and yes there are several trails at the end where the beach is pretty empty. The kids will have fun! It is a great beach.
