This song was dedicated to me by my children. I was a drinking person and ended up losing my license and spent months in jail for drinking. I always cry whenever I listen to this song but it was my fault. I have been sober for I don't know how long. They believed in me and I failed them. I hope that they will forgive me and give me a second chance. Thanks Trent for an great song.

This song reminds me of my Daddy. He was gone 4 years yesterday. He too was a drinking man. A half survivor of Vietnam. He carried Nam with him until the day he died. He quit drinking when I was 29. He was an AMAZING Daddy & I am sure your kids would say the same of you too

My dad didn't dry out until my late teens. I spent a year in a foster home because of his drinking. Our family went through eviction, bankruptcy, and homelessness because of dad's drinking and jail time. He came from a good Lutheran home, and i know he disappointed his parents. When he was sober, he was a good dad. it's been nearly 30 years since he stopped drinking. He's an AMAZING grandfather now. He's become a great husband to my mom, and has spent many years trying to play catch up and rebuild himself, his wealth, and life, to be the man he was meant to be. I am incredibly proud of him. If your children dedicated that song to you, know that you are forgiven. I'm proud of you too frnkroper316.

@@lgd1974 I concur with this. I am proud of frnkroper316, too, for becoming sober. When a child dedicates this song to their father, it means that they recognize that he had problems in his life, but that he was a good father and they want what's best for him. I know because I dedicated it to my own for that very reason.

This song describes my stepdad, Frank . He passed away on the same year the Twin Towers were struck . But he was saved on his deathbed 1 week before he died . Most would probably say, it doesn't count, because he didn't spend his life living for the Lord . But if they had seen all the folks he had helped over the years and all the work he did, helping my mom support kids that weren't his own, they would know better . Even my pastor said he had no idea my stepdad hadn't been saved . He helped my pastor get the supplies he needed to build the new church when others turned him down . When we held his funeral, it was PACKED even outside the door with people who he had helped over the years . And to think, when my mom first met him he was straight out of prison !

Tim this song still makes me cry 12 years later. My dad was taken at 51 suddenly and though we weren’t as close as I wished we were, he was and always will be my Dad and miss home every second of the day. I sometimes hope that he played enough gospel bass guitar in my childhood days to get him into Heaven even when he lost his way as I became an adult. I pray God heard him a few times and gave him a pass. 😢

Daddy's been a back-row Baptist With his share of front-row sin His Saturday night still on his breath Every Sunday when he'd walk in He's never led the Benediction He's never sang in the choir But he's an angel with no halo And one wing in the fire Mama lives by the Bible The Bible lives by the bed And she's lied alone so many nights With scriptures in her head Prayin', Good Lord, just be with him I know his faith is tired But he's an angel with no halo And one wing in the fire And I know he lives a little left of livin' right And he's come close to goin' way too far a few times But I'd trade a thousand prayers if just one prayer would come true Lord, please believe in him, like I believe in you Daddy's always been there for me From T-Ball to touchdowns Fixed my car and fixed my heart When they've been broken down I know he calls for more forgiveness Than most folks do require But he's an angel with no halo And one wing in the fire And I know he lives a little left of livin' right And he's come close to goin' way too far a few times But I'd trade a thousand prayers if just one prayer would come true Lord, please believe in him, like I believe in you Well, I just can't imagine What Heaven might be like If me and mama make it Without daddy by our side Lord, could you please remember When it's time to call us higher That he's an angel with no halo And one wing in the fire

The craziest thing about this song and it’s popularity is that the reason it got so much air time is that his dad who it is about sit down with a list of the syndicated radio stations and called them one by one about playing it as a way to support his son because his label and promotional team were dropping the ball and he felt like he owed it to him (trent tells the story on one riley greens golden saw shows and seeing this pop up reminded me)

@@trenttomlinson370 I doubt you will remember this but you played at the boat basin in Bainbridge Ga one fourth of July and me and my Daddy held hands and cried to this song. My Daddy was my hero my best friend and my whole world. I haven't been the same since I lost him right before Christmas a few years ago. Having to tell him goodbye is still one of the hardest things I've ever had to do before in my life. I don't even know the words to define what a hole I have in my heart. It physically aches because I miss him so terribly. I also buried my husband when I was 5 months pregnant with hIs second child so my boys also know what it's like to grow up without a Daddy and he was like my Daddy a hell of a long way from perfect but still an angel with one wing in the fire. Thanks so much for your music 💯💕Maybe one day you can sing one of my songs😂 Best wishes to you for a long happy and prosperous career. You have impacted allot of lives with your music!

It’s been 41 years now my ole man passed . He made a lot of mistakes when his time drew near. An I held so much against him as a young man . But time an age brings a different way of thinking because u realize that humans are far from having a right to judge . We all have fallen short at one time or another. After all these years Ive come to know I’ve made a good lot of mistakes I can’t take back of my own . If I can’t forgive ?, I can never expect to b forgiven. That’s all I can say . No halo an one wing in the fire. Yea, that’s pretty much the truth of what I’m speaking. Rest in in peace pops , I’ll b along shortly . Life is a gift of a short trail to a long path called eternity. I’ll see u soon , an we will walk threw it together . Till forever ends . Till forever ends . Love u pops
