I love that you guys don't just make swords but you go out of the way to explain the methodology behind the design of the weapon. You inform viewers not only on technique but the history behind the techniques and why they work so well. I personally find that awesome and super helpful to help other makers with the process of discovery in making there own creations. All in all I want to say, thank you.

The smashing was usually done during a night sneak when troops would infiltrate enemy lines. Hence the need to stuff like the trench club so they could take trenches silently.

That thing went through a cinder block in a single swing. A direct hit to the head with that club would easily reduce your skull to mush. Even if you hit someone with a helmet on it still probably do massive damage and knock them unconscious. It's pretty silent outside of the impact noise and the thunk made when the lifeless body hits the floor, which would be unnoticable in battlefield conditions

2wingo In WW1 any blunt object can be used as a trench raiding weapon. A Trench Shovel is also very viable.

Biggest issue with the sword is you have to expand the hilt to actually fit the whole blade. that or go with a smaller blade but it'd still be interesting

ironic not to use Trejo for a Machete episode. oh well.

They had blacksmiths for their horses. These blacksmiths would make horseshoes or whatever and would also make trench knives out of those spikes they used to hold up c-wire

I love these bludgeoning weapons. This is probably my favorite build that I've seen here.

Big error placing that rod down the middle of the coil. The purpose of the coil-sprung club shaft was that it was flexible- so if the victim tried to block the blow it would whip round and still hit them.

when you swing the coil extends, the rod keeps extend straight.

it can also help with "follow-through" so you dont end up hitting the gut half-assed

zombatija the only point of the coil was so that it would bend a bit when you hit someone. so its not a completely static object. less chance of injuring your wrist or forearm when beating on helmets all night.

Should have made the pommel unscrewable. How else is a tommy supposed to end a krout rightly.

The trenches of WWI weren't just holes in the ground. Some of them led into old quarries, mines, and caves. Not all were on the battle-front: as with all military operations, there were supply rooms, machine shops, medical facilities, garages, and so forth. Those shops made such weapons as the trench club and assorted types of knives.

hannes jacobsson I always think that the spring was there to grip some of the enemy's skin or clothing and rip it off brutally, but maybe it's to absorb shock. Who knows maybe I'm completely wrong and I just have a brutal imagination

I have a spring I have a rod springy rod.

probably absorb impact to avoid the rod to bend

Added more mass to the weapon, and helps keep the central shaft from bending during a strike.

David Hall the originals didn't have the rod, they added it to make it rigid like the game. The spring would normally allow the head to whip in order to increase head speed.

I have a small pocket version of a club like the originals, The whip effect of the spring is brutal.

I love Danny Trejo’s take on “Breacher” in the CW Flash.

Nice Mauser Gewher 98 you got there. Though it needs a clean up

A bevel gear from any broken transmission, or differential, and a hickory hammer handle or any other decent hardwood haft you can find. Try to keep the total weight under 2.5 pounds and as long as possible to a total length overall of 30-32 inches. You can choke up if needed in extra tight spaces, but you'd like to be able to out range anyone with a knife, and have enough force and range to deflect someone with a rifle bayonet. a wrist lanyard might also be handy too.
