The only time I had a decent time against runic stun was when I was pressure testing my branded deck to see which deck to outgrind the other in resources. At a certain point I said screw it and got Masquerade on the field and taxed them down until they couldn’t play anymore. And yes I do call Masquerade the blazing dragon “the tax dragon”

@@bleack8701 MTG is worse. Hasbro is milking the game into the ground and powercreep is accelerating at light speed. Players are being put into situations between getting top tier decks or paying their car notes. The game is in a horrendous state right now from a monetary standpoint. Alot of older players are leaving for games like Sorcery and Flesh and Blood. Unless you play low level commander or just pre-release the game is hyper expensive.

I loved the format prior to snake-eyes, it had so much variety in what people could play. It's always a bit frustrating to lose to the best deck, that's just how competitive games are, but that problem is largely alleviated when the "best" is a loose collection of 5+ different decks that all have realistic chances of beating the others. And for those who play more casually at locals instead of going to events, it means you're not going to be playing against the same thing every week

So, for Trell, with pure Chimera, you just want to loop your resources. Mirror tributes to summon Befromat, Berf searches Gazelle and fusion, then you fuse them off and use their GY effects to re-summon mirror form GY and add any illusion from deck to hand. Then, because the fusions count as Chimera the Mythical beast, you add the fusion back to either hold for next turn or set it to fusion summon Guardian Chimera to pop/draw on you opponent's turn. It gains a lot of resources this way so I play 3 ghost girls and veiler to draw into. Mirror is a quick effect as well, so it dodges everything but Ash, so Triple Tact comes up a lot. As for other handtraps, playing 3 Cornfield Koatar is mandatory because it pitches to search Mirror and banishes from GY to negate ANY targetting effect so long as you control Chimera the Mythical Beast(again, all your fusions count as him). So hes weak to Ash as well but sets up to stop Imperm/Veiler from hitting your fusion. The fusions themselves chain block when they summon. One is an end phase hand rip, the other is an on summon Foolish for a Beast, Fiend or illusion. Both banish from GY to quick eff summon back either a banished or GY fiend, beast, or illusion. The foolish does Banished, the Hand rip does GY. The big fusion is a little harder to get out, so what I do is play the resource game, kind of like looping Fire Fist in HAT, and build up slowly while trading 1:1 with hand traps and +1 with Guardian Chimera then summon him to push for game T2-4. You can cheat him out with Mystical Sheep #1 but its only got 1 printing and its $15+ so take that as you will. You also don't really need to do this, just an option. For first turn plays, setting up the hand rip into Guardian on your opponents turn is the main play, but you can also try to get End of Anubis into the GY to bring him back as well. Sadly, the Foolish summons from banished, not the GY, so you can't set it up without a little bit of extra work. TL;DR the Chimera deck loops resources well but ash blossom throws huge wrench in it. Thats why people play it with Branded so much.

The only way the format will change for the better or at least to the point where the game is even more diverse in this format is for yugioh players to do the one thing they are afraid of: try something completely new. What i mean isn't just try a new engine in one of the same 6 decks I see every event I judge (QSN: apologizes if I invaded your space last time you came to Vans in MS for that OTS last time.) Yugioh players are afraid of truly thinking outside the box and running something other than the deck that's "guaranteed to get them a dub or an invite cause the top tier players are running it", which makes the game stagnate season after season.

  • @JuwanBuchanan

Won’t happen. Yugioh players are too obsessed with playing the most broken cards and decks to win. They aren’t interested in trying anything else if it doesn’t result in them getting easy wins and they don’t want to waste hours on something that may not be good.

or yugioh players could just do the actual thing that would get Konami to listen and just stop giving Konami money (aka speak with their Wallets) and tell them to fix their broken game, or just stop playing yugioh all together and move on (like i have with MTG). the game is in the state it's in because yugioh players reward Konami for making busted short-printed cards because they wanna win, so they buy it which tells konami this is profitable and what players want. too the point where the casual scene in yugioh has basically been obliterated outside of time wizard formats (which are utterly garbage), it's either play to win or don't play at all. problem being if you say this part out loud every yugioh player will do everything in their power to deflect and use kinder garden level insults, "your garbage at the game, Yugiboomer, git gud scrub, ETC ETC". we complain and moan all day that about this game, buying the cards and telling Konami to keep doing it and yet for some reason we refuse to actually do the one thing that would actually fix the problem due to sunken cost Fallacy. which is Vote with your wallet, yugioh's stagnant as hell?, tired of the game ending on turn 2?, sick of Tier 0 formats out the wazoo?, vote with your wallets.

I got back into yugioh through the old legacy of the duelist game. I can’t play with nostalgic cards from childhood unless I build entire decks with new cards around them and then still get beat easily by meta decks with unlimited negates. Sometimes someone starts a turn with 5 cards and ends it with a solitaire board with seemingly everything activating searches and draws making pot of greed look like a joke. Frankly the best way to fix yu gi oh it to dumb it down.

Americans have no idea how bad the state of yugioh is in the rest of the world. In Europe it's literally disappearing, more and more locals stopped supporting it entirely since the sets do not sell anymore. They dont sell anymore because there is no incentive to buy the cards. We dont have YCS anymore potentially forever. The game is extremly expensive and with super high inflation most people simply can not afford the game anymore. And why would you? We have Master Duel, we have YGO Omega we have DB. people have now realized the game is a scam and I dont think it's going to get better anytime soon.

@@jeanpitre5789Correct me if I’m wrong, as I just came back after quitting the irl TCG in 2017 (after playing for a decade with breaks), but what u (and other yugitubers/players) are saying, have been true for a decade now. Konami has received the same criticism for years, with the only diff being that the criticism is louder nowadays (which ofc I think is a good thing). However, that didn’t really put a stop to the irl TCG. Much to my surprise I see YCSs break records in player attendance, but at the same time hear that they have stopped taking place recently in EU with no explanation. This is my only worry. Everything else, like decks costing 1k and then getting hit in a banlist/ tier 0 formats/ powercreep/rogue decks getting hit indirectly in banlists/ older archetypes needing more support etc has also been going on for years. What makes this year any different? I’ve experienced worse tier 0 formats like PEPE, Dragon Rulers, Shockmaster lock and staple cards like Pot of Duality costing 100€+ on release (while ofc the OCG gets em for cheaper). I genuinely feel like I left, came back, and the game is the same. Only diff is having to play 15 hantraps,5 handtrap counters and hella boardbreakers in the side deck. I agree that the game isn’t as popular as in like 2013 when XYZ came out, which according to my anecdotal experience in the place that I live, was the last peak of modern Yugioh in terms of player numbers, but is there actual data showing a steady decrease in TCG sales/tournaments?

@@MTGDuelist8870 Yes, it is bad when your opponent can have full combo with no interruption, but the whole point of yugioh is to have a deck that can make a scary end board . The only difference being as the game evolves turns last longer and there are more combos into turns. It can be frustrating sometimes but in order to even play you need a deck that can do that (besides some decks). I was only arguing that floodgates promote bad gameplay. Also, many decks prefer to go second and you can voluntarily go second to break apart your opponents board, however, many decks like going first.

Calamity requires 2 tuners and 1 dark dragon synchro. RDA is the only deck, that isn't jank, that I know of that can consistently make calamity with etude of the branded. Centurion and mannadium has to use crimson dragon. Ghost Ogre (popular handtrap) stops etude.
