Jeeze, this is exactly what it was like where in the trailer park I'm in on the island. A couple places were crushed by falling trees... and naturally a large area of woods next to us was clear cut which probably didn't help.

these were second growth trees, probably about 100 years old. the more sad ones are the old growth trees, between 100 and 1000 years old, that are still being cut down for lumber. there aren't many left, yet they are still being cut logged

I wish you the best of luck with the hurricane. To keep in mind, the trees are very different on the east versus west coast of north america. we don't often get such strong winds here, and certainly not hurricanes...

This guy saying the person pulling up in the Tesla was an idiot for parking where trees are falling, while *standing well within the area where trees are actively falling* exemplifies what it means to be a "Dunning-Kruger case". ffs seriously. Hey, DK Jr, besides clear cutting, or the construction of nearby high-rises, what other conditions might have been present to cause those trees to fall over? I'm no expert, but I mean... don't you think a better explanation might be THE VERY UNUSUAL OCCURANCE OF SUSTAINED HIGH WINDS??! Seems to me like it coulda been that, I dunno.. 😑

Thanks for your comments. We get winds that high quite often here. Fortunately I was on the side and in front of the path where the trees were falling (namely upwind or side wind to the trees). The trees fall slowly enough that you can move out of the way. The car was down wind.

  • @SineEyed

@@LukasChrostowski you were not safe where you were. Falling trees can do all sorts of unexpected things. And no matter how slowly they fall, there's a hell of a lot of kinetic energy generated when they do. Enough to smash concrete to bits. Enough to dent the earth. They put an even bigger dent in people. The kind that doesn't buff out. Ignorance & arrogance are good traits for one to have if it's his intention (or even if it isn't) to win a Darwin award..
