Treasure Chest Challenge - How To Make A Treasure Chest
A long time ago, I received a box of fake diamonds and a pirate pendant. I have no idea who sent it to me but I was challenged to make a treasure chest. That's something I've always wanted to do. I wanted to build a chest for my kid, bury it somewhere and organise a treasure hunt for him and I will probably do that one day. But life gets in the way and the past few weeks/months have been super busy. Anyway, the challenge was still on...
Inspired by Brett McAfee and the treasure chest build video ( • Making a Treasure Ches... ) he posted a few weeks ago, I decided to give this treasure chest build a go. So this is me rising to the challenge and opening it to anyone who wants to give it a try.
If you have any question, leave them in the comments, I'll do my best to answer them all. Till next week, keep making and thanks for watching!

Thank you Sir! For the kind words, your time and the inspiration!!
Treasure chests are a fabulous thing and this is a great version! You've got some fantastic music to go with this impressive build! I love that you made all of the parts for it. I'm sure none of those pieces were easy to make but you always make each project look effortless as you break them into separate parts. Making a treasure chest has been on my list for a long time. I might have to move it higher up on the list!

Nice build...I too watched Brett McAfee's treasure chest video and loved it. I made a treasure chest for makers showdown and kept it small because of the giveaway....but would love to make one slightly larger for on a shelf I have....and I could fill it with me gold and loot! So The Redsmith.... Challenge accepted! 💎💍💰

Great video my friend! The other day i was thinking about the same twisted handle concept that you did, and I'm glad you made it because your's looks awesome! I only can hope to forge something like that in the future. I'd have loved to see some decoratively forged hinges, but I know that would consume a lot of time. That is something I want to make some experiments with as well. Anyways this is a good looking chest and I like it a lot! Keep these cool videos coming!
@RedSmith

Thanks a lot Mark!! I wanted to forge the hinges too, but my blower died on me that day, and I was only able to forge the handles and the front lock. But next time ;)

Thank you Billiam! The intro was fun to make, but that's basically what happened off camera ;)
Terrible !
@RedSmith
Merci !

I drew up a plan for a chest awhile back. This is a great vid and project. What was your favorite part of this build? Your latch idea is different from anything I’ve seen.
@RedSmith
Thanks a lot! I really enjoyed forging the hinges for the latch. But the satisfaction of having the plank going just in perfectly was great! :)

Super job !
@RedSmith
Merci !
I like the finished look, it's great! I know anything can be opened with tools and all, but could you tack weld the screws so you can't access inside the chest with a simple screwdriver? thanks. still a great video though.
@RedSmith
Thanks a lot. Tacking the screw in place from the outside would ruin the look of the chest and make it hard to paint. The screws are also keeping the wood plank in place. Another option would be to use forged nails, but that's not the look I wanted for this one :) Thanks again!
Next you should make Arthur Morgan's bandolier
@RedSmith
Maybe one day. Thanks for watching.
Great box but the modern screws kinda spoil the effect. I would have used square headed bolts with the top edges chamfered then blackened. I still like your box though.
@RedSmith
Thanks. That's indeed a good idea. I didn't think about it. Maybe next time!

@RedSmith
