The Witcher's Wooden Alchemy Chest // Woodworking Build
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
DIY build of a traditional hand cut joinery wooden chest inspired by the Witcher fantasy series.
I’m a huge fan of the Witcher series, so when I came across a reference to Geralt’s wooden alchemy/potion/travel chest, I knew I had to make it!
In Andrzej Sapkowski, The Last Wish, as Geralt is preparing to battle the Striga -
“The witcher returned to the dusty table at which he was preparing, calmly and meticulously. He knew he had plenty of time. The striga would not leave her crypt before midnight. On the table in front of him he had a small chest with metal fittings. He opened it. Inside, packed tightly in compartments lined with dried grass, stood small vials of dark glass. The witcher removed three."
If you’ve never heard of the Witcher series, basically it’s set in a medieval fantasy world, with your usual array of humans, elves, dwarves, magic and monsters.
Witcher’s, are professional monster hunters, who travel from village to village to solve monster related issues for money. This chest would be used to hold alchemy tools and potions and what not.

You can buy nails like that at most woodworking supply stores or shops. Theyre called cut nails.
Aside from the impressive carpentry, this video was beautifully shot. Great lighting and interesting angles. Well done!

This is THE coolest build I've ever seen. This is freaking amazing.
I used to be able to do work like this, back before Diabetic Nephropathy stole the feeling in my hands and feet. Worse, I have over a hundred plastic models still in their factory sealed boxes that I can no longer build. You hit 70, you have all this neat stuff and mother nature steals your ability to do much of anything. I even have seven books half or more written that I am no longer able to complete. People, make the beautiful things while you can, because one day you will wake up to discover that you no longer have the dexterity to do so. Battle on!
I watched this entire thing with my mouth open in awe. The chest, the video, the man are all gorgeous. Thoroughly impressed.
It was a really cool video, the thing I most appreciate is you actually talkin and describing what you were doing and how you did it
Absolutely awesome build - love the details, the joinery choices, and the old fashioned nails. Perfect!
So many nice handmade touches. The elliptical curve, the hand-fitted slats, the nails. I can see this becoming a family heirloom.
What impressed me most about this build is it's all reclaimed wood. You turned someone else's trash into a work of art.

This is a superb wood working book I`ve ever read, t.co/oLg9l5gL3F . Both novice and some skilled woodworker can gain a lot of general info using this reading material. I`ve been very amazed how frequently I use this to look up woods at places like to restore and salvage spots.?
You do fantastic work! I cannot wait to see more content!!
Beautiful work and great carpentry. You can see the difference real craftmanship makes!
This is unbelievable. Quite literally. The fact that this thing is real is incredible. I envy those with the patience to develop a skill like this. Good on you and keep it up!
Thank you for recommending this, KZread. New sub because that's just gorgeous!
Whelp, i'm addicted - you've combined my two fave things in the world in this vid. Cheers from accross the Tasman cuz!
The art of box making. It is so pleasing to watch.
Omg, I haven't felt this excited about a wood works project in a long time! Dude that looks so good! You should be hella proud of the way it turned out!
That is beautiful Rob! Well done on the workmanship and video as well!

I haven't actually involved myself in anything "The Witcher" related, which i may have to rethink now, but I very much love this build and the craftsmanship you are capable of. This is reminiscent of the Hobbit/LOTR series or Skyrim/Oblivion theme which I am into. You just earned yourself a new subscriber and I can't wait to see what else you come up with.
So badass! As a gamer and a woodworker, I truly LOVE this!
That chest is AMAZING! I love your attention to detail.
Wow, amazing job on this build! Excellent use of traditional & modern woodworking techniques, plus great design & artwork!

This is freaking amazing! My son is a huge fan of The Witcher, and I will be making him one of these for a gift. Thank you so much for sharing the artwork! And for documenting your process. Excellent work.
What an excellent video! I loved your various aspects of detail: square tacks, shaped tenons, leather, and the themed engravings. The music made our journey with you that much more enjoyable as well. Great work!
Oh wow, that's truly beautiful! You, sir, are a master craftsman :)
Gorgeous work!!
So much talent. It's a great way to revive history and appreciate the older generations giftings by recreating with various materials. I love seeing the abilities others have to show in a creative productive way. The ability to make individual creations is talent that can help inspire others not just in making but appreciating history on a whole new level.
Beautiful build. Thank you for sharing your time and talent!
And that's why I need a laser cutter lol ^^ Awesome project! :D
Очень красивый сундук! Молодец!
Wow, that was fantastic. I love to see that traditional old school skills alive and well :)
I have watched your video about 5 times. It has given me so many ideas. Many thanks. From New Zealand the home of Rimu.
Hi Further Fabrication, The Witcher's Wooden Alchemy Chest // Woodworking Build turned out Super Fantastic and Awesome! A work of Art, indeed. Excellent Job! Amazing .. I wish I had seen this when I was in highschool woods class... Of course that was way before You Tube :)
This is incredible! I really enjoyed this. This build shows amazing craftsmanship. Plus I LOVE the witcher franchise and its artwork.
Great work. That chest is pretty bad ass. A trick I sometimes use for silver screws is to dab a little cold gun blue on them. It gives them a nice color without any thickness.
Love it! Leaving the dovetails longer is great because it shows of the skill that went into the build. Never stop creating!
wicked build dude! Some awesome skill in the build and in the video production. Must have taken a while to do! I see you're putting your laser to good use. I'm still struggling to commit to getting one but I think I should just bite the bullet and do it haha. Keep it up!

Dude, that chest is truly beautiful, you do great work thanks for sharing.
AMAZING 🤯❤🧡💛💚💙💜💖 I made something like this for my son so he can put his toys in, I was planning to do it all by myself but I was already stressed out on all the details and the measurements that I just let my husband paint it I didn't even care what color he chose I just wanted to go to sleep 😂

So beautiful! I would like to say, though, that when using runes, you never use double letters, so for example the word "letters" you would write as "leters".

How is it possible that 197 people gave this video a thumbs down..??
Gotta be honest, that is bloody awesome! Just as awesome is seeing traditional joinery techniques, it's starting to become a lost art.
Very nice. I made a round top chest for my girl friend. I enjoy doing all the engraving with a router attachment on my dremel. I printout on paper my design then use clear packing tape across the whole design. then use a ball point pen and firmly trace it into the wood remove the paper and go over it in pencil to make it easier to see. I make my hinges out of wood. I even make wooden pad locks and keys, hasps, pegs instead of nails. In the end your project takes on a more primitive or rustic man handled look. I learned how to build a small foundry on KZread and I'm messing around with making metal accessories for my projects. I'm finding that to be more challenging than I thought, any way that's a great chest. and the Witcher 3 The Wild Hunt is by far the best video game I've played. Happy and prosperous New Year
This is a phenomenal piece! Out of interest, how many hours do you recon you put in to it by the end?
If you can't forge your own steel handles, store bought is fine
I am totally in love with this project. Amazing. I'm just taking a second woodworking class so that maybe one day I can do sth. similar.
I am impressed as hell. That is one of the coolest builds I seen in ages. Awesome job.
YT: I'm going to suggest this video to you UNTIL YOU ACCEPT YOUR FATE AND WATCH IT!
"Hi KZread, here's a way to make a cool witcher's chest. All you need is some wood, screws, glue, and your $3,000 laser cutting machine...Let's get started!"

It wont look the same but you make a stencil and get a wood burning tool (about 20$) you can do some similar designs
Amazing work, nice to see you mix old with new techniques. very inspirational, many thanks.
The laser engraving was the way to go. Beautiful!
And now where do we commission you for one of these?
I love this and I want to make one my self. all I need is the tools that I still do not have. By the way you made one big mistake ,never use nails in a piece of furniture that is made of wood always use either wooden pegs or wood screws because in furniture nails will at some point rip the wood apart and then it will have to be fixed or even that part taken out and replaced. Where as wooden pegs ( which are the best to use ) or wood screws ( only if you must use them ) will last a life time and beyond . So if you wish you can hand it down to your children when the time comes. Thank you for the video

Really? Nails have been used in furniture for thousands of years. You have no idea what you are talking about, nails do not rip wood apart. Hell you don't even have any tools so how can you know...???

Dude you're shortchanging yourself not selling these. You could make thousands off these and more if you could do custom works you're amazing dude
This is exactly what I want to do with my life, building unique intricate stuff like this, its a functional piece of art. Awesome job done.
this man is an artist
thenks for the inspiration: i'll make a spice box like this. i had been looking for domething that would work for me. thanks again

I LOVE it!! You can see the passion you have for it in your work. It turned out absolutely stunning, you did such a wonderful job. ❤
I’m a self confessed KZread junkie! This is a stunning piece of craftsmanship! So impressive. I’d love a little roman war chest for my son Roman’s baby memories. 👍🏻
I used to write in the Futhark alphabet as a kid. Or rather a variation of my own creation as a code. I love the text on the face. "evil is evil lesser greater..." and although I couldn't read the last word from the video I can only assume it to be the famous quote from the novels..."Evil is evil, greater, lesser, middling, it makes no difference. The degree's arbitrary, the definition's blurred. If I'm to choose between one evil and another, I'd rather not choose at all."
Still one of my favorite videos Tuesday can't wait to be able to have a workshop so that I can do this myself I've been wanting a Witcher chest forever
This is literally the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. So inspiring
I'm blown away. This is beautiful.
