The Witcher's Wooden Alchemy Chest // Woodworking Build

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

DIY build of a traditional hand cut joinery wooden chest inspired by the Witcher fantasy series.
I’m a huge fan of the Witcher series, so when I came across a reference to Geralt’s wooden alchemy/potion/travel chest, I knew I had to make it!
In Andrzej Sapkowski, The Last Wish, as Geralt is preparing to battle the Striga -
“The witcher returned to the dusty table at which he was preparing, calmly and meticulously. He knew he had plenty of time. The striga would not leave her crypt before midnight. On the table in front of him he had a small chest with metal fittings. He opened it. Inside, packed tightly in compartments lined with dried grass, stood small vials of dark glass. The witcher removed three."
If you’ve never heard of the Witcher series, basically it’s set in a medieval fantasy world, with your usual array of humans, elves, dwarves, magic and monsters.
Witcher’s, are professional monster hunters, who travel from village to village to solve monster related issues for money. This chest would be used to hold alchemy tools and potions and what not.

I used to be able to do work like this, back before Diabetic Nephropathy stole the feeling in my hands and feet. Worse, I have over a hundred plastic models still in their factory sealed boxes that I can no longer build. You hit 70, you have all this neat stuff and mother nature steals your ability to do much of anything. I even have seven books half or more written that I am no longer able to complete. People, make the beautiful things while you can, because one day you will wake up to discover that you no longer have the dexterity to do so. Battle on!

Very nice. I made a round top chest for my girl friend. I enjoy doing all the engraving with a router attachment on my dremel. I printout on paper my design then use clear packing tape across the whole design. then use a ball point pen and firmly trace it into the wood remove the paper and go over it in pencil to make it easier to see. I make my hinges out of wood. I even make wooden pad locks and keys, hasps, pegs instead of nails. In the end your project takes on a more primitive or rustic man handled look. I learned how to build a small foundry on KZread and I'm messing around with making metal accessories for my projects. I'm finding that to be more challenging than I thought, any way that's a great chest. and the Witcher 3 The Wild Hunt is by far the best video game I've played. Happy and prosperous New Year

I love this and I want to make one my self. all I need is the tools that I still do not have. By the way you made one big mistake ,never use nails in a piece of furniture that is made of wood always use either wooden pegs or wood screws because in furniture nails will at some point rip the wood apart and then it will have to be fixed or even that part taken out and replaced. Where as wooden pegs ( which are the best to use ) or wood screws ( only if you must use them ) will last a life time and beyond . So if you wish you can hand it down to your children when the time comes. Thank you for the video

I used to write in the Futhark alphabet as a kid. Or rather a variation of my own creation as a code. I love the text on the face. "evil is evil lesser greater..." and although I couldn't read the last word from the video I can only assume it to be the famous quote from the novels..."Evil is evil, greater, lesser, middling, it makes no difference. The degree's arbitrary, the definition's blurred. If I'm to choose between one evil and another, I'd rather not choose at all."
