You and Teo Crawford gave me the inkling to fall back in love with photography as a hobby. So thank you!
I’m someone that struggles with Sony colors. Most KZreadrs tend to over grade. I think you’ve done a beautiful job of grading a look that’s not extreme. I hope many Sony shooters purchase your lut pack. 🤓

I don't get how you can struggle with the Sony colours since the A7 IVs generation?
Ive been just geading out with my Zeiss Jena pancolar 50 1.8 and challenging myself to use my feet for the composition. It definitely forces you to really think about what you are trying to share and the story you are telling. I actually really love zooms..but i think it's important to mix it up and challenge yourself. Absolutely loved the video.
I agree with you. On trips where I have either bought a small compact like a Contax T3 or Ricoh Gr3 I have returned with 100's of great photos. When I try and bring a lot of "just in case" items - I spend way too much time asking myself what I should use and I end up wasting time trying to use everything I brought with me.

I mean you can still bring one lens but make it a 24-70 2.8 instead of a prime. I don't really need the depth of field or low light advantages of a 1.8 or faster prime because the AI noise reduction in Lightroom is amazing now.
After years of taking iPhone 28 mm snaps I’m now really enjoying the 35 mm experience with my Fuji X100V … one camera, one lens! Excellent video … thanks. 📷🙂

Thanks a lot, glad you are back at taking photos :)
this is the first video i have watched from your channel. it is just beautiful! and can i just say how wonderful it is to watch something that is just of beauty and peace with such gorgeous images for the senses to take in in contrast to a world with often so much violence and noise (most often my nervous system can't take it)! i LOVED the music in this video as well -- especially the first track. traveling around japan to experience and photograph, especially the country side, is my dream (i've never been). i really loved the sites you chose and the color tonality in each image is amazing!
Kyoto is such a photogenic city; it is my favourite place to visit. I did go with a friend recently and they're also not that interested in photography so I definitely know how you feel. Enjoyable video as always, thanks for posting!
Excellent video man. I really loved the video style with the photos inbetween. Couldn't agree more with taking the simplest setup. Any added complexity that hinders taking photos is better left out of the equation. The less friction and effort there is to taking up the camera and snapping a shot the better!
Beautiful photos and video clips. Thank you for making my day!
One prime for travel is the way. It's infectious, too. Lean into it, and the want to mess with zooms or lens swapping disappears entirely. I leaned too hard, now I'm on that Leica Q + Sunny16 + Zone Focus lifestyle. Couldn't be happier.
Great informative video! Well put together . Thank you.
Great journey and message (and production). I've had a life long obsession with cameras, particularly MF and LF and have been known to drive and hike around with 30+ kg of gear, lots of glass and even different format options. Endless confusion and often disappointing results. Shooting with 1 prime is (to me) like playing golf with 1 club. You fall in love with it, you find endless new ways to apply it and it is immensely satisfying to be creative with it. Often the results are wonderful. Perhaps I should sell off my gear.... (prob not)... Thank you and cheers from Sydney, Dave

I like how your video clips are composed like a short moving photo. Recently, on my last trip to Kyoto, I carried my Fujifilm X-T5 and 23mm prime (35mm converted to full frame) and can’t agree more, perfect focal length for travel. Great video, thanks more creating this for us!

I recently came to this conclusion as well! I’ll JUST be bringing my Sony A7IV + 35m f1.4 prime to Italy next month… (I also will have a variable ND/black mist filter as well on that lens)… you described it well. It eliminates friction and you get very fluid with that ONE lens! I also just love the way primes make you move. Man. It’s so fun. Thanks for validating me on this lol.

I prefer it when photographers try to encapsulate the natural look of what is in front of them in their images and you've done a great job with that. I'd love to come to Japan someday soon especially around October or November time when it is autumn. I've seen a lot of photos of the Kyoto area and it looks very beautiful and special. Many photographers tend to go for the most unnatural dynamic vivid and oversaturated colours especially those who shoot with Canon cameras and lenses. They might look great for a short period of time and have a wow factor but it is not reality. I think many people in the future when they look back on the photos they took in this early digital era will have regret.
I do the same but with your 2nd favorite prime lens. Heavier yes, but I find the f1.4 on my a7r2 42mp gives me a whole world more of "art". Well done!
great video, i want to point out that i really like the comparison of the shot before and after post. As a beginner it gives me a much better feeling for edit.
So beautiful photos 🔥🔥🔥
Great video, as always. Really love the vibe of the Ine village. Would be awesome if you could do a video with your iPhone video settings some time, that would be really appreciated.
Came for the photography, stayed for the vibe & cinematography!
I carry my Sony a7r3 with the 20-70mm f4 lens and it's great. I've been all over Japan and it's never failed me. The hot thing now is grungy and muted color but I blow mine out...I love vivid color and the Sony can handle quite a bit of boosting on the RAWs. I am looking forward to an a7r5 sometime next year.
I see Kyoto everyday and take photo around kyoto so often but I nevertake dark and mood style like this love your color grade

Kyoto brings out the photographer in everyone :) my favourite place, plenty of great memories there.
I enjoy just walking with my camera around my neck and one lens attached with a battery in my pocket. Sometimes I might bring one other lens if I have a bag. But I hate bringing a 24-70 or something like that, too big and not enjoyable. My new fav is my Voightlander Nokton 35mm f1.4. Such a great set up and small on the Sony.

Totally agree, I have a 24-70 for other works so I can't sell it but almost never use it when having fun with photography
in the DSLR era (before smartphones and mirrorless) I remember going to Disney World with Nikon D7000 and a kit full of lenses. I had the $850 long zoom lens which weighed a ton. Was draining to carry it all around the parks and still switching lenses. Thankfully phone cameras have gotten so good. ha
Nice video and some great images 👍
Unique video. A good study of 35mm, which I'm not very good at.
Beautiful video and images. I agree in simplicity in carrying gear, maybe it's my age and don't want to carry the bulk and weight. Was just there in Japan and Kyoto, loved it, especially once we got away from the main areas and congested tourist areas. Also complete know what it's like to travel with people who don't care for image capture like myself. Try to find a balance of being considerate to their time and getting images I want. For me, have tried the single prime lens concept but always find myself going back to a zoom. I just am not comfortable stepping into people's personal space, so a zoom allows me to get a shot I envision without making someone feel uncomfortable. My current single lens is the Sony 20-70 f4. it's what I used for my Japan trip and it was pleasure to carry.

Yeah you just know how to use this lens. Never thought of buying this one since I have a 24 and a 50. I skipped this one because I thought I had the best of both. Great colours by the way
Very nice video!!!
Timely …. I’ve actually recently promised myself for the next month or two just to shoot with one prime my Fuji 35mm … been a real challenge … sadly in the UK it is currently dull and flat … still, I will persevere 😊
Incredible photos and Video ❤ For video - do you use standard or active stabilization? Just curious if your video is slightly cropped.
Woah I dont know why but when i see your photo that so attraction
I had this last November, most of my work is also at max only uses 2 prime lens. While there are some shots that I definitely miss, I can explore better and get more interesting shots from my 35mm f1.4. Besides 35, 50 is also another pick for me if I can only bring one.

i envy your courage using one prime lens for travel. i can't get around my self doing it and always end up bring 24-70 or 24-105. definitely try it next time
35mm is the PERFECT focal length for travel from my experience. Especially when you couple it with a high megapixel camera (over 24 Megapixels), you can always crop post as needed. My travel kit is 35mm, which I use 90% of the time, and a 90mm. If I know my destination needs a wider angle, I add a 24mm.
The footage in this vid make me tear up it was that good
Dang nice video bro. Did you use nd for your travel video segments?
Do you use software stabilization in post for the smooth shots, or a tripod? I want to travel with a gimbal but it's a large piece of gear.
Hey man! Recently discovered your stuff and it’s mesmerising. I am soon travelling to Japan, and I am looking for a small versatile camera. I even considered the Ricoh griii, but there are too many negatives. Do you think the Sony A6400 is a decent choice for travel? FYI, I’m downsizing from a Canon 5D iv haha
On a trip that I do for myself, I would use the best possible set, because it is for me. Last trip, most of the time I used my 18-35mm but when I felt I could use the 70-200mm or even the 24-70mm, depending on the situation. Gimping myself for only 35 mm is not really good advice for a travel. Light, but you lock yourself out from some spectacular images.
Going to Japan in the spring. Came across this video and immediately felt relaxed. Also love that you used the 35mm. I’m planning on doing the same exact thing when I get there! Were you shooting in manual or AP?

Is this possible to take same video with A7C (I mean colors). I ask because you made this with A7IV which can produce 10bit 4:2:2, compare to A7C 8bit 4:2:0. I am just about to change my A6600 for an A7C or A7C II. I am buying used equipment and the price difference is 700€. After selling my camera and lenses, I'll just happen to have on A7C II and 35mm 1.8 from Samyang (which I already bought). Wondering if I should take the A7C II right away or just switch in some time. PS Very enjoyable video. Thank you.

What do you think about having a 85mm and a 24-70mm Nikon lens with you? I usually have my 24-70mm all the time with me, but there are moments when I feel that I need one other fix lens. I also have a 50mm too, which one you would suggest and why? Just want to know your thoughts about that., because the 85mm is really good for portraits, but 50mm would be for any situation.

If you can only have one lens for travel is not 35mm but 28mm mostly cover all you need . The old Leica Q is the best camera and best 28mm lens for travel , you can used it for portrait, street photos, land scape , architect, food and Macro also Excellent Monochrom mode , night shot ….

I’m a prime guy, mostly shooting with 35. In my recent trip to Japan, I brought a 28, 35, and 50. I mostly shot 28 with my Ricoh GR3. But I really wish I brought my Canon EF 20-35mm 3.5-4.5 lens with me on my new Canon R8. The ultra wide versatility would have been nice to capture Japan. A “nice to have” additional lens would have been my EF 28-105 3.5-4.5 to zoom into some far away landscapes or subject isolation shots. For me, one camera, one lens in Japan would be 20-35 zoom. And 85mm (or 100mm) if I brought a second lens. But, I’d also have to have my Ricoh GR with me too, so it would have to be two cameras. With my iPhone being a 3rd. 😅

@@adriensanguinetti ya, it’s nice quickly flipping between 20 & 35, and the 20-35 zoom is probably the biggest lens I’d want to travel with. I’ve owned bigger lenses with more zoom range or faster aperture, but I never use them because they get big and heavy.
