I live in an 86 Dolphin. I have so many things to tell you. Example, you should have a safety window that completely opens, that’s where I brought my new fridge in, and other larger items. Also, the bathroom is super easy to upgrade. I shower in mine regularly. Anyway, you’ve done a great job!

@@danielratner I've only replaced the toilet, put new walls and trim, an LED touch/dimmer light, and a fan. Two things I plan to do, pull the shower base, make a full bath shower base with the toilet sealed on top, and re-routing the shower drain to switch from an outside or grey tank run-off. Oh yeah, I put the shower curtain track to the wall and around, so there is tons of head/shoulder room, even if the foot space is smaller.

@@blessedwithchallenges9917 Hell yeah! That sounds great.. I'll post a video of mine soon. I have the 300 (kitchen in back). It was $2000 and I am restoring it and living in it. I also have 300 watts of solar and 600 amp hours of batteries. Currently got the same upgrades as you, but soon will be working on. I like your switch idea... may do the same for showering

Hey guys, hi Julie! So, this video was so awesome and what incredible timing. I have a 1984 Toyota Dolphin myself that i scored in 2009 here in Chico, CA where i live. Guess what her name is??? Dolly! And i bought her primarily to live in while pursuing my vinyasa yoga teaching certification from Shiva Rea in So Cal 11 years ago. Unfortunately i have let my Dolly fall into a sad state, i let some friends live in her for a year and currently its a mess! I'm just now embarking on a remodel (Dolly 2.0...thanks Julie for that one) so i would love to stay in touch. I will look ya up and hopefully swap some yoga RV tales. Thanks so much for the inspiration. Namaste.

Very cool that this rig has a tag axle to handle the weight. Prior to 1986 Toyota would sell those chassis with light half ton axles to builders who would then put a ton of weight on them. A lot of those older Toyotas had the axle break on the road. After 1986 or so, Toyota would only sell builders the 3/4 ton axle. My brother and I both had 1985 units. He found a 3/4 ton axle that he put on his. It made it so much more stable on the road. Mine with the half ton axle was kind of squirrelly to drive and I was always worried about not carrying too much water weight. It took a while to get used to the sway when big trucks went past. At first, I feared that a wind gust would tip it over. My rig had the same interior layout as Julie's. Plus it had a slide out for the dining area. I kind of wish I hadn't sold it. I'd probably strip down to the bare chassis and build my own light-weight design on it. This is a beautiful update job. Great interview Jarrod.

These were Dolphins remedy to a law suit brought against Toyota. The original frame was a 1/2 ton pick up designed for smaller size boxes. Coach manufactures started putting heavier/longer coaches overloading the frames, thus a lawsuit against Toyota which eventually got coach manufactures involved. Ultimately the coach manufactures were found at fault and a recall was ordered. Dolphins remedy wad a cheap repair where they welded a box tube to the frame and put on the tires to take some of the load. Other coach manufactures removed the 1/2 ton axles and correctly installed the 1 ton dually axles.

As to YOU TUBE......seems like a good idea financially speaking.....but consider the time restriction.....maybe have to give up some free time.....I think you are wise to give this one a "maybe" Meanwhile....I would be happy to have you as my therapist. So now I know! GEEEZZZ! Mine doesn't have a window in the front but still had quite a bit of water damage in the front. Luckily for me, it was repaired by the dealer. Nice remodel!
