We just returned from a two week trip to Ireland. No car... No problem. Bus from the airport all the way to downtown hotel was €2.6 each and left every ten minutes. (A nice bus). Tram to train was €1.5 . It was hard to tell first class from standard on the trains. And we took day trips via trains or bus tours from Dublin, Galway and Cork (the true capitol). Great craic all around!

Hi Bob, glad to hear you hear you had a brilliant trip and found the public transport system to be of great use. I find sometimes it can be easier to use than to worry about vehicle rental..... Cork will be glad to hear your thoughts on it 🙂

Was there earlier this month. Walking, buses and trains were our main modes of transportation. Everyone is nice. Ask if you need help. It takes a moment. We took a train from Dublin to Galway with an open return. Our hotel was walking distance from the station. We took a bus tour when we visited Galway. There are all kinds of tours and adventures. We picked up a taxi from the airport to our hotel in Dublin central. Our driver gave us a little tour of the city. He asked and we obliged. We mainly walked clocking in 8.5 miles a day. Ireland is one of the friendliest places you’ll ever visit. We made friends with everyone. Whatever forms of transportation you take, enjoy the experience. ❤

I have been to Ireland twice (1979 and 2022). I have found two different Irelands. Transportation has ALWAYS been much better than most of the United State. Irish rail travel was the best experience. I did find I couldn't find a way into Port Magee to see the Skellig experience. It also surprised me that I didn't find travel into the Gaeltacht of County Cork. Other than that I found travel to be FANTASTIC.

Finally, i found a video of someone who actually knows what they are talking about when it comes to irish public transportation, as someone who uses PT almost every day i agree with everything in this video, im so sick of people who've probably rode on a bus or train once or twice like 15 years ago and still think its all the same, the most common myth i hear is the price of a train, for some reason, there is a lot of people in Ireland who think the trains are outrageously expensive, but it just isnt the case, i get the train from Limerick to cork (return) for about €11 total but when i first started taking it, my brother (who has only been on one train to Dublin in 2011) tried to convince me not to use the trains cause he thought they were like €60 lol, but i spend af fraction of what he pays to go to cork because he drives and petrol here is expensive as fuhh, especially in recent times because of the war in Ukraine

hi there, thanks for the video as it's very helpful. do you have any suggestions for taking transit from Galway to Killarney as there is no direct way. I keep hearing Bus Eireann is unreliable (not sure if that applies to this route).

Is there a specific train that goes straight from Belfast to Dublin Airport? Which rail would that be, by chance, and is there a strict set of hours of operation? Thank you!

Where can you purchase tickets for buses? I'd love to spontaneously use google maps to find buses throughout rural Ireland, but would I need to purchase a ticket beforehand or can I get it on the bus? Do the buses take cash?

All buses take cash, in Dublin and across the country. Make sure you have change in your pocket to be able to pay for smaller journeys with change and that you don't over pay as Dublin buses can not give change. If you plan to do much travel across Dublin, I recommend a Leap Card, but to travel via bus across Ireland cash is easier.💚

If they are LOCAL buses, as opposed to TOUR bus types, you can buy and use a LEAP CARD. 20 Euros lasted me almost three weeks. Leap CARD did not work for trains. It worked all over Ireland.

We’re going to Ireland next year and we bought a eurail pass for the train for unlimited rides! Is there such a pass to buy for the buses over there so we can pay one flat rate and get rides on all buses?

Apologies for the delayed reply. No unfortunately Dublin bus does not take non contact payments. It is something that they are looking to introduce in the future 💚

Prepay for a leap card which you can use not only on the buses but on the trains as well. Also a good idea to order a Dublin pass which gets you cheaper entry to quite a lot of museums and the zoo

Hello Zumara, You can purchase tickets directly from the bus drivers (In Dublin), but you will need change / coins as the drivers cannot accept change. If travelling outside of Dublin and exploring the Irish countryside, you will be able to purchase tickets directly from drivers or at ticket stations. However, as of March 2022 TFI (Transport For Ireland) introduced a new ticket purchase app to cover all types of transport across Ireland and hit will help you plan your trip and help save any worries regarding money / change for tickets. If you copy and paste this link it will bring you directly to it - www.transportforireland.ie/tfi-go-app/ 💚
