Travel from CURACAO to BONAIRE - Dutch Caribbean

Hi everyone! This is episode ten of my Dutch Caribbean series, in which I travel to Aruba, Curacao (Curaçao) and Bonaire. In this video, I travel from Willemstad in Curacao to Kralendijk in Bonaire.
The video starts off with me saying goodbye to the Otrobanda area in Willemstad, where I was staying, including thanking a gentleman who helped me with some information and directions on a previous day. I then head to the bus station and, after asking for help, manage to find myself on a bus heading to Hato International Airport, the main airport in Curacao.
I then arrive at the airport, way ahead of my scheduled departure time. I give a brief tour of the airport, both outside and inside, and eventually manage to grab an earlier flight to Bonaire. (Note: from c. 7:27 to 10:19, there are various parts where I'm in the airport and the lighting may be flickering. Please do take care if you need to).
On the plane, I meet fashion blogger Kenty Lichtenberg and her friend Candy, and we experience an unforgettable 25-minute flight between the C and B islands of the Dutch Caribbean. Let's just say this was not an ordinary journey. Check out Kenty Lichtenberg's website here: www.keraikreativestyle.com
I arrive in Bonaire at Flamingo International Airport, and get picked up by a taxi driver who also point out some interesting things about Bonaire. I finally arrive at my accommodation and manage to secure myself an upgrade. The owner himself gives me a tour of the room.
I hope you enjoy this vlog! Please note that I have not been sponsored by anyone or any organisation in the production of this video.
Let's go and explore!
Willie

    I sail Holland America cruise ships, based out of Amsterdam, I met a girl several years ago onboard, from South Africa. She was married this year there and her husband and her have returned to the ship. They both work onboard. We have been to the ABC many times. We will be back in October. Looking forward to seeing the Islands again. Enjoy! And I have many conch shells. They are beautiful.

    The climate is not dry but very humid instead, about 80-90% relative air humidity all year round. But there is not a lot of rainfall and nature looks very dry. Then wait for a nice rain shower and all the plants will flower. We are collecting condensated water from our 4 airconditioning units that deliver 50 liters of clean water each every day. So 200 liters of water per day. This way we can take advantage of the high air humidity. We use that water to irrigate our lovely garden full of colourful Bougainvillea or Trinitaria as it is called here.

    Wow, I so miss Bonaire. I was born in Curacao but Bonaire has always been my favorite place to go to relax. People are friendly, life is paid back, the beaches are fantastic. I'm in New York State now, and people up here have no idea what Bonaire is like. I need to go back to Bonaire some day very soon. Thanks for the video.

    That was cool, Willie. Those ladies were fun too! That aircraft was a Britten-Norman Islander. I've flown a few times on its slightly bigger brother, the Trislander (15 seats) which has three engines, one in the tail! Did you know they were originally built on the Isle of Wight? More recently they've been built in Romania, I believe. But they still have to come to the UK first to get certified for flight. I've just realised I may have missed a video or two of yours, they must have been posted while I was on holiday in the Netherlands! Time to catch up. 😊

    Hi there! Unfortunately I don't know the cost of the individual flights I took, as I booked a multi-trip ticket through a booking website and that does not give you the individual breakdowns. Where will you travel from? If it helps, for me it was best to first do Aruba, then Curacao, then Bonaire, as I could do direct flights from each island. Sometimes you need to stop over in one of them to visit the others, but in my case I didn't have to.

    hello Willie, you say you are from South Africa, are you a native Afrikaans speaker? If so, you could have spoken Afrikaans to most of the people on the ABC islands. They speak Dutch as you know, and Afrikaans and Dutch are almost the same. How come you didn't do that?

  • @willieexplore

    @willieexplore

    5 күн бұрын

    Hi! Thanks for watching and supporting my channel :) I have indeed spoke some Afrikaans to some people in the ABC islands - if you watch the entire series you will definitely find snippets of Afrikaans. I kept to English mostly when filming - not many people could immediately understand me so I often had to repeat myself, but also keeping it in English helps to save time with editing. Editing is a tough and time-consuming gig, let me tell you!

    @@willieexplore I understand you fully that you spoke English for your viewers. Now as for you personally, how was it for you that you were able to be understood in Afrikaans on the other half of the globe, knowing that there are only a few spots in the world where you would be able to communicate in Afrikaans? Was it sort of exhilarating to you(I hope!), or wasnt it such a big deal to you. Ps: if it was exhilarating, then I definitely recommend Suriname, where Dutch is an official language.
