Hi David! Ken here from Nova Scotia. Few years back my younger sister said she found hole dug up on her lawn. I told her she had a skunk. Guess she didn’t believe her wise older brother TIL her 3 beloved labs came in her trailer smelling very skunky. Lol.

Skunk trapping is not a stinky job I have been trapping Skunk over 25 years and never had a one release on me or in my truck or in the traps. I have had to help a lot of people that have trapped a Skunk in a have a heart trap and removed them for them and they let me keep the trap and payed me for the service think like a animal that you are trying to trap and you will have more success my trap is self contained so transportation is not a problem.

David, sometimes, actually, a lot of times, your job stinks! If it isn't the hawgs in the mud with their poo smell, its the dang skunks and whatever that smell is they have. I applaud your efforts in removing those pests. Way to go David. I think those folks in the building should look into gettting a couple bags of that quick concrete and plug up them dang holes. Keep up the good work.

Here is a couple of tips on trapping skunks...when walking up on a live trapped skunk, use a large OLD towel or sheet held up in front of you to cover your profile, the skunk won't identify you as a threat and will (hopefully)stay calm. Drape the entire cage with the sheet or large towel, let it settle down a little then you can transport it wherever you want. In case you do get sprayed or your dog does or whatever...here is a scientific formula to neutralize the odor (....forget the tomato juice...) use a pint of hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking SODA, and a squirt of dish soap, Dawn is the best. Mix into a solution then immediately wash or rub the affected areas, then rinse clean, (discard the rest, it's effectiveness won't last long.) If you are using this on an animal, keep the solution out of its eyes.

@@sharonclaassen8382 Why would think that that would be rude? You just didn't understand what I meant. You missed the word 'large'. Being a skunk trapper for quite a while, the size of the towel or sheet matters. You must cover up your entire profile when approaching the trap, not just a little. Then when laying the fabric over the trap it must cover all sides of the trap so the skunk can't look out. Being cautious when trapping skunks is a must. At least for me it is...

My mom had 5 skunks under her business several years ago. It made for a long work day with the smells. Lol Animal control said use an egg to bait the traps. That didn't work so I went to Dollar General and bought sardines. I'd partially open the can of oily stinky sardines and put it in the back of the trap. We got a skunk a day. One morning we had 2 in a trap. Animal control would come out with their long pole with the syringe on the end and put them out of my misery. Lol.

An 8 or 10 inch PVC pipe with a cap on one end and vertical drop gate on the other works well with minimal chance of spray. Use a mouse trap on top with a wire pan inside to trip the mouse trap which pulls the trigger that holds the drop gate up.

Good Lord, David. Invest in some bath sheets from Wally World or some cheap tarps from Harbor Freight or Tractor Supply to cover the traps when you catch something that sprays. It will shield you from it. And if you have to throw them away it is not a big financial hit. Also, if you get sprayed have you about 10 or 12 Very Large cans of tomato juice and take a shallow bath in the juice. It works better than almost anything to get rid of the smell. I shouldn't have to tell a country boy this.

Years ago my mother took a picture of a momma skunk and seven babies walk across our front yard. Cute at the time. The smell of wacky tobaccy I think smells like skunk. 🤢
