Transit side Door Rollers

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

in this episode I fit new side door rollers. But I was advised by "Transit Parts.co.uk" that I had ordered the wrong ones. I was going to order the roller kit at only £21.95 They said that it was the wrong one as I had a Mk7 Transit JUMBO that I would have to order them all separate because the jumbo has an extended middle roller.. I said are they sure as the smaller one is already on there.. They said yes and sent all 3, top mid & bottom at a price of £35.95.. Yes I had to return the middle one as it was wrong..
The JUMBO Twin Wheel has the extended one... as yet no refund on the kit price..???

Just replaced my middle hinge after watching your video, it was a great help. A couple of things i did also, was to mark around the old hinge which is attached to the door with a felt tip pen. That way you can be a lot more accurate with the new one. Also you can adjust the jack as you go along to help you lift the door in place. Cheers.

Hi many thanks for this video, i have a 2005 ex Royal Mail Transit - as you can imagine, the rollers on mine had virtually nothing left of them with the side door being used every few minutes in its former life, i used your video which was well explained, to fit my new rollers and all went well, i don't wake the neighbours anymore when i open and close my door lol thanks Buddy.

Just replaced top and bottom runners on my 2009 Fiat Ducato van. Tried the AFTER MARKET guys and all three of them offered me the wrong parts! Phoned the main dealers who required the Original Reg Number and then sent me the correct 2 parts, cost me £164.23p but saved credit notes; and my knuckles etc. Watched you're video to make sure I'd done almost the same thing AND Yeeee Haaaa, the satisfaction was overwhelming. Thanks for you're video, next time I'll get Spielberg around to video my new talent..talents! I might add I 'DID NOT' mark around the old runners as with their wear and tear on the worn runners, I could have fitted the new one's in the wrong place's.

Hi.. I found the adjustment very difficult. as you have to do all 3 rollers. then have to do them all again as one put another out of line. I start with the top, then the middle, the bottom is just for lining up the door closure.. Its all trial and error to get it right.. Cheers

Have you replaced the top one? We replaced the middle and the door os still struggling to open (like it did when the plastic around the bearing went). I bought the 3 pack and am going to replace the top and bottom. Did you just use the standard transit jack to support your door too? We wedged ours still on our step with some planks of wood 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ thanks!

Hi.. Its the top one that carries all the weight of the door. I replaced all 3. But do them one at a time. so you get the door lined up. I used a trolly jack to keep the door at same hight.. No fun on your own.. Cheers

Yes, the old one was worn to a smaller diameter. I would be surprised if the door wasn't sticking out further. Mine is having troble poping out and it won't open, unless I close it hard, lock it again, unlock and open quickly. Must be the spring on the middle mount.

Very helpful video - thank you :-) I'm still confused about this 'extended' central roller, tho' - if an extended one IS needed for the twin-wheeled Transits, then surely extended top and bottom rollers would also need to be fitted to match this extra clearance? How can the middle be 'out' further than the top and bottom? Cheers.

  • @WonderingWomble

    @WonderingWomble

    10 ай бұрын

Hi.. Both top and bottom roller are at the front of the door. so when open they will be in the same door opening.. Middle roller is at the rear of the door.. You only need to extended middle roller if your transit has extened wheel arches. the rear hinge will then bring it out far enough to open the door, plus they have a different slider rail..

Hi Alec. There is slight adjustment on the top roller as well. The centre one will lift or lower and pull the rear of the door in.. If the door is out at front top, make sure the guides on the door post are lining up, you can adjust them as well. I would adjust the top one first, take the weight of the door on a jack.. Cheers.. let me know

As soon as i see the extended roller you bought I thought OOpps!! If you bought that roller of the well known Transit parts seller on Ebay then they are fully aware of the problem of it not fitting. As you say, it's for a twin wheel Jumbo. But it won't fit a twin wheel Jumbo Bus, because of the door pillar and the roller fouling. I think it'll only fit a T/W Jumbo van I had to do a lot of fettling to get it to fit properly. Yes I have a Jumbo bus, and wanted to get the door to open fully. This isn't a simple job, and wouldn't recommend it without a good workshop. Glad you got it sorted in the end, and all's working OK. Hi.. Thanks for the comment.. I used to have a garage until i retired.. I sort of new it was the wrong one, but took their advice..? in the past I have had 3 buses and converted.. All I had to do was move the bottom roller, they bolted it in a different position on the door..???? they were single wheel thow..? The only thing i need now is the side door lock, it is in the middle of the door and not at the back like all the vans, as i have put my kitchen part over the door way, i can no longer reach the inside lock, and have to use the fob, but when i do that it sets the alarm and the dogs set it off in the night. The only way to get over that was to use the drivers inside manual lock, and that just locks without setting the alarm off..? any ideas..??? Thanks again.. Kevin

Yea I thought all I had to do was move the stop and rollers. But on my twin wheel bus the center roller guide is too short because of the windows. So i had to buy a full length guide and bend it to go over the window glass. Then cut out the upper part of the step and remake the roller guide. Check out my the pics on my channel if you want to see what I had to do, Door mod starts at about 1.20min In hindsight I wish I had bought a Jumbo van instead of bus to convert. Happy now it finished, but what a bugger at times...lol CVD

But it is very very rare to get a high top bus.. think i'v only seen one before..? It did look very fiddly to do.. but well done.. I also see that Jay & Loura from "Campervan handyman" has commented.. I should be going up to see them soon, to help out with the wiring.. always a problem wiring..? But i believe his van is coming along great.. Again Thanks.. Kevin

Yea i was really lucky to get the Hightop, right place right time I guess. I'd only ever seen Midtops before. Mine left Ford as a Bus not a van conversion, so don't know if that made a difference. I like Jay, he's got the same silly sense of humor I have. I know he's struggling with the weather at the moment with his conversion, and as you say, wiring PITA and bain of my life I do hope he gets a break, he needs it. I promised him a "BBQ hamburger" when he gets this way (In Joke) CVD
