Transformers G1 Jumpstarters Twin Twist & Top Spin repairs - Toy Polloi

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I've always had a thing for the vintage Generation one Jumpstarter Transformer Twin Twist. He's a pretty rubbish Transformer but he does look very cool. In this video I finally get to work on both the Autobots Twin Twist and Topspin and give them the repairs they need to go on display in my collection.

A minor note about the mechanism: The packaging said the slider on the back of their heads were in fact balance adjustment levers if they didn't "bounce" up correctly or under/overextend the flip in the transformation action.

@@nickolaswilcox425 It was **absolutely** necessary not to mention fidgety. You had to get it juuuuuust right otherwise the figure would overshoot its own feet (not enough to do a double somersault which would have been **SO** cool) or smack the back of his head against the concrete. I think it had something to do with the fact that the feet themselves weren't weight balanced. As far as I could tell the weight of the upper body was negligible to the transformation process and the tab informed the figure how to throw itself to overcome the unbalanced weight distribution. I know on my two the tab had to be just a hair to the left of dead center otherwise you had two spring loaded Decepticon buffoons.

@@nickolaswilcox425 Before employing brute force, I would attempt taking the figure apart (careful not to lose all the spring loaded parts) to get to the head, then using WD40 and a jeweler's flathead screwdriver to try to pry it to the left. I've not had it lock into position before, so there may be some kind of grit or plastic shaving wedging it into place.

36ish odd years ago, when i was but a small lad. I accidentally mucked up the stickers on Soundwave, and mixed up the stickers that goes on his wrists, with those that go on his gun, and shoulder cannon. 35ish odd years later, and thanks to Toyhax labels. I made the exact same bloody mistake. It just goes to show. You can take the kid out of the 80s. But you can't take the idiot out of the man. lmao

Fun fact, Twin Twist & Topspin are the most produced G1 Transformers ever. They also have the most G1 variations (being sold as Salt-Man X & Z, and Robot-Man X & Z in South America). While I'm a Twin Twist fan, I do like Topspin as Salt-Man X in Green or Red. Fabulous restorations Dave. Some of my fave transformers! Great as always!!

I had Twin Twist growing up and had a lot of fun with him, not a complex transforming but a cool dynamic one step. Managed to keep him in good working order despite forcing that mech open a few times heh. Always a treat to see inside and how to get inside toys safely. Toyhax makes reproduction stickers, sweet. Thinking maybe kids tried to force the arms to rotate despite the designer locking the arm position for the snap action, in hindsight probably a spring compliance could have done both.

Great video Dave! Twin Twist was always one of my favourite Autobots as well for some bizarre reason. I think his bulky design, simple colour scheme and cool drill tank were just somehow very aesthetically pleasing to me as a kid (plus he was a member of the Wreckers in the G1 comics, which instantly elevated him to cool status). As well as the proper G1 Twin Twist, I had a knockoff one I just picked up from somewhere like a local newsagents, that was red and dark blue, which I thiiiink is the same as the original Diaclone colour scheme. I think you can also get these knockoffs in oversized variants as well.

Loved how in G1 when they invented a new gimmick they invented new characters. Now they regurgitate the same characters with the odd long forgotten character thrown in the mix, or you just get a sea of Bumblebees. My friend had one but I must have been the only kid not to get one. I think they were off the shelves before I realised I wanted one, even though I was quite a TF fan in general. And still am.

I remember getting what was I guess a knockoff of the toy that became Topspin. He was molded with a dark blue body and red limbs and head. I had got him before the jumpstarters came out, I remember being very confused lol. Years later in adulthood I know the story behind the toys, and finding there are a number of knockoff jumpstarters out there. I recently discovered Fliptrons.

I had Topspin as a kid and never had much a problem with him transforming as intended when running him on the linoleum tile floor in the kitchen or the dining room. The problem was that most kids (including me) didn't "play Transformers" in the kitchen. Usually on carpeted floors or outside. Getting them to work on anything but a really flat surface just wasn't going to happen. I remember transforming him by rolling the wheels back by hand and letting them go while mimicking him "jumping into battle" while transforming.
