Trans America Trail: Utah Sand & Salt

After riding in the mud and rocks of Utah, I finally arrived at what the Utah Trans America Trail is primarily known for: sand and salt. For my first real ride in sand, I was alone and many miles from civilization...and loved it. Then, it was off to Bonneville Salt Flats and to treat myself to a hotel.
Enjoy and don't forget to subscribe and comment if you have questions or stories of your own riding in Utah or the TAT.

Nice to see someone (other than myself) that isn't afraid to use a GS for what it was built for and not limit it to just being a pavement queen. Subscribed

I was on that section going to green river today. Also riding solo on a 2014 GS. I turned around at the sight of downhill stone steps with deep sand at the bottom followed by up hill stone steps. The sand really sucks, one pucker moment after another, especially solo. I am going to tour the rest of Utah on pavement and pick up the tat again in Idaho

Hey there I’m planning this trip for next year! I have a question how do you plan your stops? Do you plan out each day where you’re gonna be starting from and then ending from? That’s the only part of the trip that has me a little concerned. I know some days it will be easy to cover 200+ miles and other days might be less

Hey Ryan...I don't recommend trying to preplan your stops but I do recommend you taking a look at your maps each morning and get an idea of where you'd like to end up that afternoon. GPS Kevin's map package is great and breaks the trail into section. There is food, lodging and gas at the end of each section so that is helpful for planning. Hope this helps and enjoy your trip!

Did you complete this and other portions of this trip alone, or riding with anyone for any sections of it? Have been watching your videos since you posted about it on FB in MOA.

Thanks for watching Scott! Yes, I rode alone the whole TAT. I brought a Garmin inReach which has an SOS and text function for emergencies or for communicating with folks when you are in remote areas. Thanks again!
