Trains Crossing Massive RR Bridge From West Virginia To Ohio, Coal Train Gives Locomotives A Workout

Ойын-сауық

Gigantic Railroad Trestle In Kenova, West Virginia That Crosses Over The City & The Ohio River. Trains Pass Overhead Down The Middle Of The Street. Heavy Coal Train Goes Under The Bridge Right As A Train Is Passing Overhead. The Crew Waived To Me And Recognised Me! Norfolk Southern Trains And CSX Trains. Amtrak Station In Ashland, Kentucky Is Included With 2 Trains Flying Past. 5 Trains Are In This Video.
First we see a Norfolk Southern train with a DPU shoving the rear. The train is crossing the big railroad bridge over Kenova, West Virginia that opened in 1913. Look how huge the bridge is. The bridge is 85 feet high and 6,150 feet long. Construction on the bridge started in 1890 and the first passenger train crossed it on June 9, 1913. It crosses over Kenova and the Ohio River with the other end of it coming into Southpoint, Ohio. This mixed freight with the DPU was exactly what I was hoping to catch. I heard the train approaching on 161.250.
Next we see another train crossing the bridge and going to Ohio. This time I was on the other side of the bridge so that you can see both sides of the bridge. Just as the end of the train was passing I noticed a heavy coal train coming. This was a train that came from the Ohio River banks in Kenova and was heading eastbound. The train got onto the NS line and headed railroad east on the Heartland Corridor. The crew waived to me and noticed me. That was pretty cool. I didn't notice until I got home and was working on this video. I got more video from several spots in the Kenova and Catlettsburg, Kentucky area for Part 2.
On the way home I passed through Ashland, Kentucky. I decided to stop at the Amtrak station to check the signals. I couldn't believe how lucky I got when both tracks had signals indicating that they were lined for eastbound trains. I heard the trains approaching on 160.230 so I found a well lit spot to film them. This area gets interesting at night. Cars were cruising around with loud music and squealing tires. One car threw out a beer can and sped past. Then I noticed the police pull over a car right by me but I'm not sure if it was the same one that threw the can. They him go and when I was trying to leave a woman asked to use my phone. Of course I didn't loan it. I know better.
Anyway, CSX trains passed by on both tracks just minutes apart. These trains were booking. Actually, a couple more passed when I was at Wendys in Catlettsburg. After waiting for hours all of a sudden a bunch of CSX trains passed by in less than an hour. You can go for hours without a CSX train and then get several in a row.
Don't miss the special Live Action Pets section at the end and the special slide show from this video.
Filmed Monday, June 3, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

That's something I miss from my younger days..... coal trains! The last pit in the UK has closed and the last coal fired power plant at Ratcliffe on Soar is now on emergency use only and closes ready for demolition in September. The end of a era. Railways began by moving coal, so the end of coal trains is a big milestone. We now have only a couple of plants generating by burning wood hips the rest of our electricity comes from wind, hydro, solar and a few gas and nuclear power plants. The days of seeing coal trains here are now past. Great to see your videos of the many freight trains passing by in lots of interesting places. Keep them coming, we really appreciate your effort in producing them. Hope your health will soon improve along with the summer weather.

It was nice to go back to Kenova, West Virginia area, Jaw Tooth! Those Norfolk Southern trains on the bridge show how massive that bridge is between Ohio and West Virginia. The two engines on the Norfolk Soutern train that passed under the bridge were working hard to move that heavy loaded coal train. I am surprised that there was no DPU on that train. The Amtrak Station in Ashland, Kentucky gave you enough light to get the video of the two trains passing through Ashland.

Awesome night trains! Yes, that 1st one did sound weird! I would've said no too! Sometimes I say give me the # and I'll relay a message or speaker phone. But no is unfortunately the safest way. That is a hug e trestle. Wonder how many tried to walk it. It would be stupid but curious. Awesome catches. Thanks for the video Brian stay well roll on

I was wondering that when I was standing by it. I was thinking there has to be a lot of stories of ppl walking over it. Someone telling their friends about the time he walked over it and a train was coming . LOl. Thanks for the gas money again Mark! That goes a lot way and I appreciate it!

I sure enjoy all of your work, and I value the relationship we have, even though right now it's only through messages in your videos. I sure hope to meet you in person sometime this summer! Thanks again. Are your hens laying yet? There's just nothing like farm fresh eggs. 😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤

The loco was not right as you called out. Yellow over two red is Approach. Yellow over green/red is Medium Advanced Approach. Don't ask me the speeds if I'm even correct, I forgot most but I'm still in the game. Great job J.T. I could feel the excitement in you that I was feeling. Don't forget the sun positioning, great catches.

The coal train asking for the signal at the East leg of the wye is going to work its way across the CSX main line (Top to bottom) and loop through the NS Kenova Yard. Upon exiting the yard and crossing the road to I-64 (WV St Rt 75) it will take the East leg of the wye towards Williamson, WV.

The bus is probably an Amtrak connector. Amtrak uses local charter bus carriers to connect their passengers with localities the train doesn't go. I'm near Richmond, VA. They use James River Bus Lines here to connect passengers between the Richmond station and Charlottesville and others. I've ridden another bus connectir in Florida as well. Busses are dedicated to Amtrak only an they're rather comfy.
