UK Railway trains at Battersea Park (London Victoria) station, Brighton Mainline
Including Express & Regional Passenger trains in March 2022! 🏴
A Weekday Afternoon of Brighton Mainline services at Battersea Park, heading around the South of England, United Kingdom. Trains include:
- Southern Class 377s
- 377/1 - Built in 2002/03 - DC Only
- 377/2 - Built in 2003/04 - AC & DC
- 377/3 - Built in 2001/02 - DC Only, Built as Class 375s
- 377/4 - Built in 2004/05 - DC Only
- 377/6 - Built in 2012/13 - DC Only
- 377/7 - Built in 2014 - AC & DC
- Southeastern Class 377s
- 377/1 - Built in 2002/03 - DC Only
- Gatwick Express Class 387s
- 387/2 - Built in 2015/16 - AC & DC (Operated by Southern)
- Southern Class 455s
- 455/8 - Built in 1982/84 (Refurbished in 2004 and 2012)

This was filmed prior to Gatwick Express services restarting so all Brighton trains were operated by Southern.

Train Numbers - e.g. 43032 or 800110 - These are train numbers which are specific to that train. No trains can be numbered the same. Locos are 5 digit numbers where the first two numbers are the class of train e.g. 67010 would be a class 67. Set Number - e.g. WB64 or NL04 - These are semi-permanent loco hauled coach formations which are kept together for formalities. The first two letters usually indicate the maintenance depot responsible e.g. OC is Old Oak Common, LA is Laira. The number indicates the rake number.

Southern had 387's on loan from Gatwick Express? Well, That is surprising that Great Northern and Great Western Railway has some Gatwick Express 387's on loan to them. Truly outstanding film to watch :-)
I did not know battersea park station was actually as big as it is. Great video!
Great video mate. You do get London Overground terminate at Battersea Park and also TFL 315 farewell will be gone on the 25th of August (it will be this year).

Have you heard of train sim world 2 if not this station is is the game and I train spot here a lot it’s cool to see how the game compares to real life. Nice variety and great video!

Hey Star, I have one small question. If you film a train that is passing a station how do you know where it is going?

There's certain apps you can download that tell where the train is going and at what time and the service running it. There's a few I personally use the official National Rail app to track what trains are coming and going. Hope this helps :)

I personally Look Up the timetable of the nearest Station where the train might Stop, and if the time matches the train then thats the one im looking for. (I dont know If Star does it the Same way but thats the way im doing it for my Videos)

Hi guys, there are a few methods that can be used. The easiest being the use of Realtimetrains and looking up the nearest station/point of interest and using the time to work it out. My method uses a bit of everything; I use Traksy whilst filming to see where trains are approaching from (this is how I plan my shots and roughly know where to be facing when something is approaching) and then I use realtimetrains to mark what I saw against what it was. I highly recommend all the techniques Jackk and Atlantiko stated, there really isn’t a right or wrong way 😃

With Southern getting rid of the Class 455 and Class 313. I do think that Southern likes to inherit more Electrostars including Class 377/5 from Southeastern that were used on First Capital Connect and Thameslink. Which were replaced by the Class 700 Desiro City. And Gatwick Express to inherit back the Class 387/2 that were on hire with GWR and Great Northern.
4:33 Star, if you didn't see it said Ore & Eastbourne. So it was Ore and Eastbourne as a correction

Is there no southern service from Victoria to Brighton any more? If not, why did they remove it and will it return?

Unfortunately, London to Brighton Southern services were completely lost post-COVID. I believe Gatwick Express services are all extended to Brighton but most passengers are pushed onto slower Thameslink services. There are still some Southern services but only in morning and evening peaks.

I don’t plan to, I mostly visit stations that interest me and or have variety to be interesting. Having said that, it would be awesome to visit them all 😃

There are some 455s thrown in on stopping trains. You are right though, since June, Southern only operate Electrostars and Turbostars. 😞 Thanks Rob.

Sad you didn't catch a Overground train. There was a service from Victoria to London Bridge, and when the Clapham Junction extension came in 2012, London Overground were required to run a parliamentary service terminating at Battersea instead of Clapham to avoid the lengthy, stressful and expensive procedure to close the line. I would have loved to! Overground services only run in peaks or when Clapham Junction is closed. 😃

No Gatwick Express services ran on this date. Southern used Gatwick Express' Class 387s during this period.
