1st time to Battersea Park station on the Brighton Main Line featuring services from Southern and Gatwick Express plus a surprise appearance of a Southeastern Class 377 ECS Move from Selhurst as well.
The 1st station out of London Victoria on the Brighton Main Line is Battersea Park which first opened in May 1867
Although today there are 5 platforms however only 4 are still in use. Platforms 3 and 4 are used by stopping Southern services mainly to and from Epsom Downs, West Croydon and London Bridge, Platform 5 is rarely used which is where fast services pass through.
Platform 1 and 2 were originally linked up when Southern services use to operate the South London route from London Victoria to London Bridge via Clapham High Street
Since December 2012 when London Overground's East London Line took over running to Clapham Junction Platform 1 is now out of use although Platform 2 is rarely used nowadays by London Overground with the only exceptions of 1st train in the morning or late at night as well as being a temporary terminus for London Overground when the line towards Clapham Junction is closed for weekend engineering works.
The station itself does provide walk out interchange with Queenstown Road Battersea on the South Western Main Line close by which the Brighton Main Line crosses over before running alongside through Clapham Junction and since September 2021 also is a few minutes away from Battersea Power Station Station which is nowadays the terminus for Charing Cross Branch services of London Underground's Northern Line.
The recent and ongoing housing development around the station in some ways sort of obscures the view of the iconic Battersea Power Station which closed in 1983 however thanks to the Northern Line Extension it's being brought back to life although as a retail and housing development which is due to be completed sometime in the Autumn 2022.
Although Battersea Park on paper may seem like a simple station however sometimes you just won't know what may turn up.
