Train to Busan movie reaction first time watching

Ойын-сауық

Train to Busan was surprising really good. And it was refreshing to have something slightly different about the zombies.
Badd Medicine here and it Train to Busan reaction time! Really well done for a zombie movie. All the characters were great and Gong Yoo as Seok-woo, Diamond Dave just kept thinking of Squid game. The MVP character of this movie was Ma Dong-seok as Sang-hwa. Great job by Su-an Kim as Soo-an, she did great as the daughter. The zombies brought something different for us. We are hardcore fans of The Walking Dead as you may know, the zombies have been around for awhile, so they are moving a little slower. Seeing these zombies and the rage they have was intense. And something new for us, once it was dark, the zombies couldn't see! It was great! Our only nitpick was the way the Seok-Woo went out. He didn't need to have his hand there. Only disappointing part. We highly recommend watching full movie if you haven't seen it yet.
What was your reaction to Train to Busan? Was did you think of the zombies not being able to see in the dark?

i find this to be a refreshing take on zombies. I think, at the time this came out, everyone had zombie fatigue. I also know it didnt get as many viewers on its release (I feel like) because the trailers in the US made it look more like World War Z and it gave the vibe of film that people have seen already. So trailers probably turned people off from it. Then you have people who dont like to watch foreign films due to reading subtitles and I can see why it, at least in my area, it flew under the radar. In my honest opinion, if i really had to compare this to World War Z, not that i want to since the two films are two separate genres even though the zombie theme is the same. Train to Busan succeeded where World War Z failed in terms of character, story, pacing, the tension, etc. Since I'm Korean--American, I'm always on the lookout for when Korean films premiere in my city so I have alerts set up or my family contacts me about them.

There are three very famous korean actors in this movie. First of all the father of the little girl is actor Gong Yoo and he also plays the guy who recruits players in Squid Game. Second is the husband of the pregnant lady which is actor Don Lee and he most recently played Gilgamesh in the Eternals. And then there's also the student on the Baseball team, which is actor Choi Woo Shik who also plays the main Character in Parasite.

My impression of when the dad got bit was that he stuck his hand in the zombie's mouth on purpose. The zombie was pretty close to his daughter and the pregnant woman and to insure they didn't get bit, he put his hand in the zombie's mouth so there was no possibility of him biting the other two.

Also, an unsung hero is the train conductor. He kept the train going despite knowing the consequences of doing so, helping these stranded people with no reward, with cars full of zombies, then got out to try and help the main cast get back on the train even though it was super dangerous and got him killed.

I hope not only me appreciated the heroism of the Homeless guy not just once, but twice. First, when he covered a cloth to the zombie's head who's attacking Gong Yoo's character, second when he sacrificed his life for the pregnant woman and the little girl. :(( One of my favorite characters in this masterpiece.

  • @WarrChan

The dad sacrificing himself served 3 purposes in the movie. He needed to keep the guy from biting the others. His sacrifice completed his character growth. He died so the girl would sing in the tunnel and prevent the soldiers from shooting. If he had lived all 3 of them would have been shot a la Night of the Living Dead.

The father getting bitten makes a lot of sense. He was exhausted. Normally, he probably could have just tossed the guy and been fine, but he'd been sprinting and fighting with little to no rest between. As soon as they left the train that last time, he was constantly exerting himself. He had to literally drag the guy off the train with him to dump him off finally.

@@maggiemccauslin1084 It's what I call the 'Horror Effect'. People criticize decisions made by horror movie characters who are in life or death situations, while the viewer is safe at home and in a rational state of mind. Nobody takes fear, panic or exhaustion into account for any horror movie decision. "Well, I'd make this other choice because I'm calm and safe right now, so somebody terrified for their life and exhausted is clearly stupid for making these decisions." Fear does terrible things to a person's ability to think and reason. People also get mad when someone freezes in fear. There are three reactions to fear, not two. Everyone knows fight or flight...but it's actually fight, flight or freeze. That's why some people just freeze, because they can't process what's happening.

@@TimedRevolver yeah good point, and few people remember or even notice just how many times the zombie jockey'd back & forth between him and the females. It was 3x already! & also its not like they couldn't have shot a sequence where he barely shoves his hand in between them and a bite. Enough was enough, we didn't need a shot of his face alluding to such.

@@TimedRevolver I agree- it's easy to do "Monday morning quarterbacking". The business man was lunging to bite the pregnant woman and so the father had to pull his head back. The easiest way is to put your arm around his neck and it happened that his hand was in the businessman's mouth. Asking him to grab the businessman by his collar is easy to say but not realistic when you are fighting for her life.

I feel the main character did live up to his promise as when the zombie jerk was going after the pregnant lady and his daughter he sacrificed himself (unintentionally) to prevent them from being bitten. To me it was an ironic ending that the COO zombie eliminated the main character as it was evident the main character was destined to turn out just as selfish as the COO had it not been for the zombie outbreak. I’m the beginning the dad was all about self-preservation…just like the COO. Loved your reaction btw!

This movie is a masterpiece, not only is it an amazing zombie movie but the story is so thrilling and you can help but get invested, there’s a bunch of top Korean actors in here: the main character, his daughter, the badass about to be dad, the baseball player… you get it Also I’ve seen this movie countless times but I still always cry at the end, it’s an understandable decision but it’s still rough, also only a child and a pregnant lady surviving a major zombie attack is pretty crazy if you think about it

Hey Mason & Diamon Dave missed ya.👋🏾😊🥰. Finally you're doing 'Train to Busan' YAAAAYYY! The little girl actor Kim Su-An who played 'Soo-An' would have been about 9/10 years old when she played this role as the Fund Managers daughter, to this day I DO NOT UNDERSTAND how this child didn't get an Oscar for that role especially gripping hold of her father begging him not to go, blaming herself and then that crying and screaming towards the end, ripped my heart out and had me in floods of tears and still does every single time I watch a reaction to it. Some of the most experienced Hollywood actors cannot pull of a more convincing performance as she did at such a young age. I can't believe that film was in 2016 and she's a 15 year old beautiful young lady now and unsurprisingly sought after playing many roles after that performance. I agree with you though her dad, 'Seok-Woo' didn't have to put his hand across the mouth of the selfish (antagonist/villan the rich chief operating officer of the company Stallion Express) COO 'Yon-suk's mouth and get bitten, but I realise he did it as a last minute attempt to stop him from getting to his daughter and the pregnant 'Sung-Gyeong', but he made the whole train situation worse by his selfishness. That newspaper and water trick on the glass was clever by the pregnant 'Sung-Gyeong', but I was SOOOOOO UPSET we lost our hero, BIG guy 'Sang hwa' the pregnant lady's husband who was bitten on the hand trying to hold the carriage door closed.😢 Overall a great Korean action horror, literally almost from the start, (the speed of World War Z zombies) edge of your seat, scary, panic, ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT and EMOTIONAL, best visuals and cinematography, CLAUSTROPHOBIC TENSION.😱😰😧😢

Korea kinda has a hiarchy system and takes respect for elders and people above them seriously. They even have honorific & formal/informal speech. The man is a CEO and in their society hes the highest ranking person on the train. And it doesnt stop just because of an emergency..... Look up the sowel ferry incident, where a group of kids ended up dying on a schoom trip because while the boat was sinking the captain told them to stay in their seats while him and most of the crew escaped..... (this "societal system" is what ive been told by my cousin who lives in korea and is married to a korean man and what i have seen and picked up through shows, movies and other korean content since im currently learning korean)

Heros in K-movies are not guaranteed to survive (or rather we'd expect their sacrifice). So, in this sense, I like American hero movies because I can watch them believing that my favorite hero will survive no matter what horrible things happen during the show. When watching K-movies, we should expect the unexpected and it often makes me cry. Well... that's more like our real life in that happy ending is our wish and it's hard to make it come true.

I think the main dude, Gong Yoo's characther, i understand why he choose that choice in the last scene, he was already full of remorse and even blame himself. He was too tired too (imagine he was running the train while holding his daughter, running the station, catching train twice, went through 6 car, and even when hurt himself, he pulled that train stuff) that's why he choose that decision. So i can understand why the scenario went that direction. Even though i agree with you, why must he did that. He has a promise with the big dad and his daughter that he have to keep. I was hooked and went on a roller coaster ride through Fear, Dread, Anger and Sorrow. Kudos to the writer, director, actors, and especially the stunt perfomers for creating a modern classic. I don't have an issue with the bite. It was complete panic situation, he desperately reached to stop the zombie with basically no time to think about it. He also wasn't the other guy (the big guy), no way he could have just grabbed him and thrown him from behind as the zombie guy outweighed him by probably 30 pounds.

7:25 it's a mistranslation, the grandma is actually saying 'you rotten bastards' to the attacking zombies around her, because of what she was saying about the daughter-in-law & Su-an right before, it sounds like she's calling either one 'that bitch' which is not the case. It beats me why the translator went with bitch, maybe Korean isn't his/her first language???

I'm not too keen on the American remake either. Somewhat worried since Hollywood hasnt done a good remake of a korean film before. The Oldboy remake directed by Spike Lee and starring Josh Brolin was very forgettable. Hollywood also did a remake of My Sassy Girl which I never watched but i heard it wasnt as good either. I'll still reserve full judgment until the film comes out since James Wan is producing it who has done phenomenal horror stuff in the past. As long as there's no studio interference and absolutely no guns (thats part of the charm of Train to Busan, i feel like, the lack of guns heightened the tension for the characters) should make this film hopefully watchable along with a decent script. Although I do wish Hollywood would stop with the remakes...

You forget...the "hero" is a business man, works in an office and probably not a very physical guy...been running and fighting ALL day. Just moved that heavy piece of metal and ran down a train...the guy was exhausted. The zombie had him down and if not for the pregnant woman distracting the zombie, the hero would have died right then. He had no strength left, so he put his hand over the zombie's mouth to prevent him from biting the woman. Why do you think he wrapped the chain around himself, grabbed the zombie and jumped? He used his body weight to get the zombie off the train. He kept his promise.
