Train Simulator 2022: 1894 Brooks Loco Works 'Mastodon' Bundle

Ойындар

Another locomotive pack from Train Sim 3rd party developers 'Machine Rail', In the form of the 4-8-0 (12 wheeler) or Mastodons as they were called as well. The pack includes 6 sperate liveries, 1 for the Brazilian EFCB Rwy and the other 5 for the Great Northern Rwy.
Many 4-8-0 configurations were built over the years, but this pack is specific to the Brooks Loco Works in Dunkirk NY before they merged with Alco in 1901.
Link to pack and route I ran them on below.

Strasburg 475 was Baldwin built in 1906 for the N&W as part of the M1 class of engines. (M for “Mastadon”) They were nicknamed “Mollies” as a short for the “Mastadon” wheel arrangement and the M1 designation. It is also a deckless engine and has Walschearts valve gear.

Thanks for the extra info on these. I agree, these are satisfying to drive in TS. The couple things I didn't like were the cab camera views seem to clip the back of the cab (easily fixed though) and the key binding to open the windows is the same for loading/unloading. But despite these small issues, this pack is definitely worth buying.

Have you figured any other details like maybe flags/lamps for extra services perchance? Usually they add a little key guide iirc. I agree w the view, not only is it a bit back but its hard to see the track ahead as well - the angle could use a scooch to the right.

I didn’t realize the Lackawanna had these. If your looking for more places to run these, try my steam workshop route Lackawanna Mainline. It’s the DL&W mainline going west from Hoboken NJ set in the 1930’s. In the next update the route will be over 30 miles long.

13:00 That's not a dynamo, it's the air pump. the dynamo is the whiney spinny generator usually mounted on the top of the boiler. It makes power for the lights on the engine. And on modern ones, i believe it makes power for the water pump too. The air pump is what makes that chuffing noise while the loco is stationary.

These steamers are simply fantastic! As soon as I got the mail that they're available to purchase I bought them instantly. You can't beat the price either - 10 bucks for this loco pack is such a steal, honestly! I can't wait for more North American steamers from these fellas! Little fun fact: Doubleheading works! You can clearly hear the chuffs being offset from each locomotive too which I really like, its a nice detail.

I’ve watched a few of your videos on their stuff, and it seems that they are taking sounds from other developers… that has the SSS 5MT/8F chuffs sounds aswell as the Cylinder Drain sounds - also noticed on the H9 that it has a few GWR sounds from Victory Works, especially the rod clanking

I have noticed this on several locomotives from TSW2 & 3 as well as Classic, and now this video, the wheels are not round, yet on many they are, as to not being round, is that so the wheels can produce that clunk sound as it pass over track transitions or just unable to make a r\ound wheel?

I don't get how people are still leaving clicks in payware audio in 2021. I know it seems like a small thing but when it's a sound effect that plays a lot, like the bell, the constant clicking is incredibly annoying and makes a train so much less fun to drive. I know making good sounds is harder than it might seem but it can't possibly be THAT hard seeing as most competent developers don't have clicks in their audio. I expect these kind of sound issues from people like DTM but it's surprising to see an otherwise great developer like Machine Rail fail to fix something so basic.

  • @schnauzahpowahz

Valid point. While the sounds are good (great compared to the usual suspects) editing could use some work. Even the whistle has a bit of a chop at the end. Knowing that theyve corrected some things historically, hopefully theyll fix atleast the bell like they did w the 260 (i think it was the 260...)
