Train 45

Музыка

Here's an instrumental train song from Mr. Jamie Mason. Jamie played it for me several years ago when we teamed up for Bringing that Georgia Mail for the train series. Our instruments were in great tune that day, and Jamie's playing was very clean. Not sure why I didn't make more guitar runs. I saved this video for a couple of reasons. I thought it would be good to have an extra video held in reserve in case I ever didn't have time to shoot a new one for the series. Also, I thought that we might possibly do this song again sometime with a mandolin. Train 45 typically opens with a mandolin mimicking train sounds. I thought I might learn to play the intro or get a mandolin-picking friend to do it for me. I never attempted either, so I figured this year that I should go ahead and share Jamie's good picking on this tune, rather than hording it any longer. :-) You can search KZread to find the mandolin intro I'm talking about. JD Crowe's band provides a great example: • J. D. Crowe & The New ... Anyway, Jamie is now in a new band called Appalachian Smoke, and they recently landed a recording contract with Mountain Fever Records, a label that is home to several well-known bluegrass acts. In fact, Appalachian Smoke's new album has a song on it that reached as high as #7 on the top 100 bluegrass chart! I'm very happy for Jamie, and his success is well earned. I hope the band gets more and more attention and gets better and better. To check out their music and learn more about them, please visit his band's website: www.appalachiansmokemusic.com/

Great picking by both! Thanks for releasing this, Paul, and how timely that you mention Appalachian Smoke, as I--and many others, I'm sure--am keeping an eye on news about that Collett Ridge fire.

Paul, Jamie is a mighty fine banjo player, and I will tune in to Appalachiansmoke and give it a try. Thanks for your time and devotion to the blind pig and acorn channel. I have missed a few posts commenting, but I have listened to them. Maybe I can get back to them again, re-watch them, and add some comment's, although i remember you said you usually don't go back after a couple of days. Anyway, have a great day, and please tell Granny I have her in my thoughts and prayers. Debbie

It seemed that you had either put rubber strings on your guitar or were just pretending to pick, Paul, because all I could hear was the banjo. It would have been great to hear both instruments.

Sorry about that Noah. My strings were a touch dead, but the biggest factor is that I didn't turn the hole of the guitar toward the camera's microphone. Banjos are very loud due to their resonator. To get a good balance, I could have turned my instrument toward the camera and asked Jamie to turn his banjo more towards me.
