***ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
Living on a river and across from a boat launch, I've seen so many people just tie a not in there winch strap and never repair it or install the winch strap incorrectly.
That's when I had the idea to make this video on how to replace a winch strap.
It's really simple and make loading a boat on to a trailer much safer, not to mention it helps keep the boat on your trailer during transportation.

    Thanks. The strap on my boat trailer hasn't broken but is old enough to be replaced. Now I know how to replace it. Thanks.

    Ya im pretty sure you should spool it turning the crank clockwise and putting the strap over the bushing not under it.. the way you have it the the strap will scrape on the frame and you crank it in which could be why it broke in the first place.... try spooling it clockwise and over the bushing which will also help pull the bow eye up to me the stop roller.

    you shouldve rolled the strap over not under to less friction from the winch post rubbing under your strap

    I noticed that too. My current strap winds off the top of the reel. For me, I think that's better

    Loving the way you've mounted your spare... because my trailer has an old tire wedged under the boat to stop it rocking up and down so much and I was just about to order a spare wheel holder! Instead I can do what you've done and do both jobs at once...

    Awesome video. If you ever have to replace it again. Get one with a soft loop attached to the hook. I use the metal hook on the boat then hook the soft hook to a rated carabiner on the trailer. So if the main strap failed in transport, the loop will keep it from moving. I only get the straps with a soft loop attached to the hook. You can also make one using seatbelt type webbing and sewing it to the hook. It’s a good failsafe. And I think they intentionally sewed the look like that that attached to the winch so the forces pull opposite. It will make it harder for the seam to pull loose since it’s pulling from an opposite direction and would hopefully bind on itself.

    Good demo. Just had the winch strap break on my way home and the safety chain kept things under control. If I didn’t have the chain I may have lost my boat. I have a cheap winch on a cheap trailer so I am upgrading the winch and strap. So I consider myself lucky and didn’t wreck the boat orkill somebody behind me.

    Don’t you love when new things are made a little messed up… LOL I don’t know if they still make it, but my dad and I had a jug of this UV protectant, we used it on the strap And we also used it around on other things to stop UV damage. Maybe that’s an idea for one of your next videos. Nice work

    I believe the strap should go over the rolling pin and not rub against the post frame causing premature failure. The rest looks pretty good.

    It's pretty self explanatory as you take the old one out. I'm converting my rope model to strap. There's already 1 hole so I jus need to drill one on the opposite side and run a 20 cent bolt thru it.

    Wow, they did sew that all kinds of wrong 🤣 I used to make those, fun to sew 😁 You'd be surprised to know how many people have "left the boat in the water" because of not hooking that strap up 🤣, not to mention the knucklehead who unhooked the trailer, instead of the straps 🤦‍♀️. Unfortunately, I'VE WITNESSED such 🤣 They hook the bow, and not strap the stern, boat bounces out going down the road, lol.

    the strap should go over the roller the wear is coming from it rubbing on the trailer bracket just saying

  • @jasonle2773
    @jasonle2773 Жыл бұрын

    This was done wrong. One, your strap is rubbing and will wear out fast. Two, your winch rolls the wrong way and the 2-way latch is working incorrectly because of this. Once that latch spring weakens or gives out, gravity won't be your safety net.
