Thank you very much Maria for all that you are showing and teaching to so many people all over the world. You are a real treasure.
Hello from Canada! I just found your channel - until now i had never heard of your city. I am loving learning about it and your culture!!! Your english is lovely - please do not be sorry. We are honoured that you do your videos in english for us. Many blessings!! 🙏🌹🌹🌹😄❤
My native ancestors and many still make birch bark baskets. Mainly the northern tribes of the Great Lakes and on up into Canada. The Ojibwa, Potawatomi, Odawa, Cree and many others.

I wonder if your ancestor also extracts the birch tree water. It sounds something like maple syrup which is a Native Canadian product.

@@homealone1607 yes the Ojibwa and some of the other tribes around the Great Lakes still harvest maple syrup.
Hi Maria, your vlog’s are so calm and a pleasure to follow. You speak a very good english and have nice and easy voice. Please continue with these look’s on how people live their life in Yakutia. We can always learn something. 😃 Best wishes to you and your husband. 😁👌🇩🇰
This tradition is beautiful ❤ Thank you for sharing it with us
Sustainable is the way it should be. And what craftsmanship using horse hair! The art needs to be preserved.
In Korea, when I was a child, Koreans used a lot of baskets made of bamboo and wanton, but now nobody uses them. I'm sad. It would be great if the birch bowls continued to be used in Sahka. In the future, they will be more appreciated.

This was true in Finland as well in the old days. We have more handy and more permanent means of storage these days. I'm not sure why you'd want to go back to this in daily life. Are baskets in Korea made of bamboo more appreciated? No, they aren't. They won't be either. The same is true elsewhere, now and in the future.
I love birch trees too! They are so beautiful when they are young and white! I live in Sweden and we have them too, we have a tradition called midsommar on the lightest day of the year where we dress up a pole in birch branches and flowers and sing and dance around it. We often make flowers crowns with the birchbranches and flowers and put them on our head too. I love birch trees:) they burn really weel to and are great for starting a fire🔥
These Birch bark containers are beautiful works of art. If you had a group of local artisans making them, you could sell them on the Internet. You could probably sell them for quite a bit of money.
Such a pity they're not used anymore. Beautiful and earth-friendly. I hope the knowledge to make them doesn't get lost.
That's awesome that they're well made enough to hold liquids. They're pretty, too, in an understated way.
Beautiful crafts. The Inuit here in Canada make very similar things and it is intriguing to see the unique connection of northern peoples and their cultures and crafts in this way.
When I saw the title, I thought dishes was going end up being recipes for something to eat using birch bark. I'm glad I was wrong.

Actually the inner bark of the birch CAN be ground into flour! It's mostly a survival food and usually cut with rye, but you CAN make birch bread!

I'm also one of these who thought it will be about food. 😅 The dishes are pretty, they look really nice. But actually I'd be as grateful as now, if it really was about food from birch. 😊🌱🌿
Love you
Blessed be 🕊️

Vary Nice your family should be proud of your heritage and the crafts they created as a necessity or art form. You should find some locals who can show how to make and you can video it to retain the heritage of your living treasures.
How great bowls! I love them!
We call this tree Safeda in our country, we make matchboxes and many more items, these trees grow quickly as compare to other trees, lovely to know about beautiful culture, wanna go there but scared from cold.
Beautiful, birch bark containers .
OOO, I love it! Birch bark "water" is my alternative to coconut water! I buy it in Lithuanian shops here in London, but they made in Belarus. I love them!

I wonder if there is souvenir shop in Yakutsk where we can buy the traditional craftwork like the ones shown in this video. Because they are very beautiful, and they come from the nature, not plastic.
So beautiful!! I wish I had a handbag or decorative basket made like this!
The birch bark containers are beautiful.
So beautiful, amazing, lovely, wonderful. Much Blessings to you. Thanks for sharing, Lord-Jesus-Christ com
These are so beautiful! It’s amazing to see the care and love that your ancestors put into these hand-crafts.

i love yakutya/ Saka,
All those vessels you showed are treasures, beautiful craftsmanship, museum quality items, take good care of them and thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much for your videos. I have wondered for a long time what it is like to live in the Far East of Russia and now I can understand something about the culture there. After a stressful day your videos always make me feel so peaceful.
These are so beautiful! ♥
Teaching is not a lost art, but the regard for it is a lost tradition. I really like your videos. Thanks for uploading.. love you..XD..
"Family heirloom" (pronounced "air-loom") would be better than "family relic." Of course, who am I to correct you? Your English in sooooo incredible.

Birch sap. I've done that. I have some in the freezer to make some extra strong drinks later on. A couple of tips for those who want to try. Find a place for the bottle or container that will be in the shade. Do not store refrigerated for more than a couple of days, interestingly it spoils very easily.
Just a minor suggestion: Perhaps I would have said kitchenware (or just generically containers) with reference to the bowls and pots and other vessels, since "a collection of dishes" to my mind is more evocative of actual food. Maybe others will disagree.

Haha, at first I thought that they have some traditional food that they serve in those dishes. In the middle of the video I realised that it's not about food 😂

English must be very difficult for a non-native speaker to learn. "Dish" is an example. It can be a container for food, or it can refer to the food in the container. A bowl is similar to a dish (container). But if you put food into a bowl, it doesn't become a bowl (food). I think you could serve your favorite dish in a bowl, but that's taking it a bit too far. Confused yet? (North Carolina, USA)
Your Videos are amazing!
You made me recall my childhood, my hometown....Thanks for your video

So interesting! And what beautiful artisanship
Thanks for sharing your life in Yakutia. But you don't have update video for a while. Miss you!
Are they waterproof on their own or what did they do to make it waterproof? I would love to learn more about how they are made, because I'm very interested in sustainable materials and traditional methods are a good example because it's usually the most sustainable like you said, that someone can put it in the ground and it will dissappear :) I would love to see another video of this going more into detail.

Hey! Yes, they are waterproof, my grandma used to milk a cow into this dish. They should not be dried on sun, because they can crack. Overall plastic or metal or ceramic will last longer, but they are harder to recycle. Birch bark dishes are 100% natural, they are not covered with any kind of polish. The easiest way to get rid of them is to burn, and no bad gases out of the smoke :)
They look beautiful! Maybe I'll try to get my hands on one if I visit one day :)

I miss the birch trees we had in my yard they were very old and beautiful but they died and had to be removed, one also fell over.
Hi maria, you are really beautiful. And voice is so cool.
Do you have a Yakuts Name? Beside Maria?
♥️
We make a Soda or pop called birch beer
Do you take any special precaution with birch bark containers or treat them any differently from plastic/ceramic/leather containers? Because for leather, it will crack and break eventually if not oiled/conditioned once in a while.
