I love when you spit on your boots to clean them, my mother would spit on a tissue to clean the dirt off my face when I was a little child. It doesn't get any more traditional... Great video...

My tar does not seem to mix with the tallow and wax at all - what could be wrong?

Try higher heat. And remember to warm up all of the ingredients.
What does "Nahkaraswa" mean (on the lid)?
