    Any "real clone" of the Samick Sage is ok. I would go directly for the Samick. It's literally the Ak-47 or Lee-Enfield or M1 Garand of the bows of there. Because of its reliability & versbility, low production costs, availability in virtually every geographic regions and ease of use.

    Robert Mason just saying there are many better options than the sage, for the same money or a little more. I own a sage and it is slow stacks badly and is cheaply put together. I own a black hunter with longbow limbs and have shot the recurve limbs I think it is a much better bow than the sage.

    @@jasonbarnes3188 I agree with you, except on one point. In recent years, many models like the ones you mentioned have come to compete with the Samick and it has had to reinvent itself, because there has been a lot of plagiarism/clone of the original model. Samick still have a very large share of the market. They don't do high quality like Fred Bear I agree on that, but to say it's "garbage" is a bit quick. Have a nice day and take care! :-)

    Classic Tex. I was wondering where you'd disappeared to for a week or so there. Spine rating should be completely standardised, it's madness that some manufacturers use different numbers. Also, be very very careful with bearpaw arrow shafts, they tend to have non-standard diameters for inserts/nocks, depending on which you buy. They are great shafts, but I want completely standard shafts. All the best Tex.

    EXCELLENT information! I appreciate this so much. I'm really curious, what's your opinion on using stabilizers for instinctive shooting? I have a SWA spyder and it has a threaded insert for adding a stabilizer. I actually was wanting to add a sling to my bow, and the advice on the internet is to put the sling between the bow and a stabilizer. I don't see any instinctive shooters using stabilizers, though. Why is that?

  • @tyrepair

    @tyrepair

    Also, your draw length will be a little shorter vs a compound. I'd bet you'd be 29-30 in. (I also have a 31" compound draw but pull 30" with a recurve). With that in mind, I'd go for a 35-40 lb as a first bow, since a longer draw than 28" would mean more weight (about 5 lbs every 2"). If you plan on hunting, make sure you know what the legal minimum is for the game you are pursuing. In my state, 35# @ 28" for deer is the minimum for trad gear. I asked a game warden if a 35# @ 30" would be okay and he said "if the bow says anything less than 35#, you're getting a ticket" (for me, a 30# @ 28 would get me 35# @ 30). Good luck!!

    Most of the American manufacturers are selling low end bows made in Asia with American companies names on them. I personally would not buy a bow under 400 dollars but the Stygian is a nice short recurve.

    Hey Tex, what are your thoughts on a sidearm for a less than desirable hit? I've always fancied a hunting sword (yes, those are real, historical things), but often get people's nostrils pointed at me for being "barbaric". In a true traditionalist sense, what would you choose?

  • @TexGrebnerOutdoors

    Well, if you use a gun it doesn't count as a bow kill for the record book and it may even be not legal to finish an animal with a bullet during bow season.

    Why would anybody take advice about bowhunting from someone who has had no success as a bowhunter. I bought a sage a couple years ago just because everyone was talking about it. It’s junk there slow they stack terribly and they are not built very well at all the string that comes with is useless. Save your money buy a better bow the sage is not a good recurve bow even for a beginner

  • @xfactoroutdoors165

    @xfactoroutdoors165

    4 жыл бұрын

    Many would disagree with you on the sage. Sure it stacks past 28 but it's a great bow to get you started. The string being junk is true but I see junk strings come on bows 4x the price of the sage so a new string should always be advised with about any bow purchase.

  • @jasonbarnes3188

    X Factor Outdoors most of the people who buy the sage are first time bow buyers. If you don’t think this bow stacks you should shoot a nice recurve and feel the difference. There are better bows out ther for just a little more money. Personally I would rather have the black hunter than the sage.The sage is a very cheaply made recurve.

  • @xfactoroutdoors165

    @xfactoroutdoors165

    I know. The sage begins to stack at 28inches. I've shot recurves as short as 48 and didn't get stacking just because I'm a short draw length. I've shot both the sage and black hunter. I agree the black hunter is a better bow for roughly the same amount.

  • @jasonbarnes3188

    @jasonbarnes3188

    X Factor Outdoors the black hunter for a starter bow is probably the best way to go for people starting out. You can also get longbow limbs for it I have longbow and really like it it has made several trips to the stand and taken 3 deer so far at 50lbs.
