Love your dad speaking the truth about the level of charger you need being based on your daily driving needs, not the car. It doesn't matter if I own a 50 miles or 500 mile EV, 110v charging will meet my needs.

I thought the same thing, but for $250 I had a 240v NEMA 14-50 outlet installed in my garage. Even a basic 16amp 240v charger ($200 on Amazon) will charge at 3x the speed of 120v. You never know when you might want a quicker charge in case you need to use the car for longer trips after work.

I'm always surprised that people dismiss it and quote how long it would take to go from 10% to 100%. The solution would be to charge it sooner than 10% and use a fast charger if you are ever in a situation where you are at 10% and need it closer to 90%.

I rocked the 110v for over a year. It was totally manageable. Once or twice had to go do a third party charger top up. Getting the 240v turned it from being manageable to being something I dont really think about

All the local Hyundai dealers in Western NY have 1-2 ChargePoints like this installed. Free to use with the ChargePoint app and you even get a branded Hyundai/ChargePoint NFC card you can tie to your CP account. Basically saves you taking out your phone but convenient. Our selling dealer on our I5 Ltd is 2 miles from our house and in a great area for restaurants and shopping. Their CPs are just 62.5 KW units with one CCS and one Chad plug each.

Same height here. I've only driven the ID4, but I found the dashboard and doors to be a bit high and restricting of good visibility, didn't like that. Kyle says he likes a car where you feel down in it, but I prefer good visibility of my immediate surroundings. Ioniq 5 seems more to my liking so long as the windshield and roof isn't too low.

I did the same thing. I traded in my ID4 RWD Pro S for an Ioniq SEL RWD with digital teal and "dark green" interior. I too loved the ID4 and there was nothing wrong with it but overall I like the ride of the Ioniq better. Having owned both, I would say they are equally efficient (or inefficient) in the cold and at highway speeds. However, I think the Ioniq is better efficiency for city driving. Like your son documented, I haven't gotten advertised charging speeds with a cold battery and that is pretty disappointing. I hope they do updates on it but as you know, I had the ID4 since May and never received any software updates. Good luck with the car. I am happy that there is someone who trades these cars more often than I do. I've had a Ford Focus electric, 2 Volts, 2 Teslas, a Ford C-Max hybrid, numerous Prius hybrids but I think you have me beat.

I personally think the best version of the model year would be the RWD Limited with the battery heating system if that can be optioned in the RWD models. Right now, no RWD cars in the US have the battery heating system which seems like an oversight to think only people in Florida, Texas, and California would buy the RWD model.

Defiantly an upgrade for sure. Although I don't care for the Ioniq 5 info screen, lack of frunk/storage, and the lack of back window wiper. Far as looks go though, looks damn good. I own the Ford MME, even though their software is still a bit questionable at times, I think I'd still choose the MME over the Hyundai. Although I will admit, that electric roof liner is pretty damn slick!!!

Waiting eagerly to see how the ioniq grows on you guys over time. While I tend to keep my vehicles till they grow old, we will be in the market to replace our second vehicle (our last remaining ICE) in ~5 years or so. By then I hope to see vehicles that not only have 800V+ architectures, but also have next-generation batteries with double the range. -Matt

I normally hold on too, but the used market is stupid right now with EVs that I don't blame anyone for trading up. Obviously, he was paying more for each higher level trim even if he was essentially breaking even on the previous car when you take into account car fees, taxes, and interest.
