The prices on side-by-side have skyrocketed to the point that I could buy a used mid-sized truck far cheaper. I own a Kawasaki 4010 and love it, but because of the price gouging at dealerships, I think that I'll keep mine another 10 years. It's riduclous.

I bought the tractor first (rk55 cab). Couldn't justify the price tag on a side by side when I can buy a decent shape 4x4 Toyota for less $$. Especially when a decently kitted out SxS is $20k

We only have a tractor. My only regret is not getting a bigger 1, we use our little kubota for a lot but don’t have a lot of attachments. My husband says I need a side by side but I’m cheap and don’t mind walking and I have a gorilla cart that I pull a bunch of different things in.

My wife and I just retired and bought a farm. There is no rush for us to build a productive farm quickly but that is our long term (next 24 months) goal. We are putting in a small garden for our own use with a self propelled tiller. I have limited mobility issues right now, so we went with the side by side. So our situation is a bit different, otherwise would have bought a sub compact tractor for our 10 acre farm. Thanks for the video.

We started with a 35 hp JD tractor, later added a Honda Rancher quad and a few years ago got a 4 seat side by side. Like you said, the tractor does a lot of heavy lifting, dragging, digging chores. The side by side gets used multiple times every day for general getting around. Quad is mostly used now for towing a tank sprayer and a drag for the round pen. 👍🏻👍🏻

Well in my opinion the tractor is essential because it is very versatile and it will provide ways of working the land like tillers for the gardens, sprayers, and a bucket to help move the heavy stuff around. I was fortunate to have both on my current property and the side by side is good for moving things around quicker and maybe even keeping up with some light yard work, but the tractor is what I use to do everything else, plow the fields, move dirt, till the ground, level up the driveway, dig up trees to move, pull the heavy dump cart I have, etc. I also do own an ATV and I find using that to get around is also easier as well because of its small foot print and ease of use. I can go to other fields and scout them out for future projects, I can pull my trailer around to pick up yard debris from a storm ⛈️ or even put my toolbox on it to get it to my machines as they break. I mean yes everything has its purpose but bottom line is when it comes to what you need I would go with a nice tractor first.

A sxs is great for taking the trash out to the dumpster to the front of the property. The tractor is great for moving the dumpster anywhere you want on the property. They're both make life easier and I think they're both basically essential but... if one is more essential than the other it's definitely a tractor. One good rainfall that brings mud across the property or floods you out, fallen tree, having to dig or clear or anything like that the tractor is a lifesaver. It makes unmanageable jobs manageable. The sxs makes manageable everyday jobs easier and more manageable. You can be more efficient and get more done with a good reliable farm/ranch vehicle. Depending on how your property is laid out you could accomplish a lot of that with your pickup truck or even an ATV if you already have one of those.

They are starting to come out with attachments for UTVs. The seeder attachment i saw was 40" across so quite small... but its enough for a 1-2 acre garden. They had a 2 blade 0.5m plow attachment as well. For the UTV i think ease of repair is a positive. If you have the tools to repair a car then you can repair the UTV.

You have obviously never used one. I run ground drive equipment with mine, box scraper, disc, small plows, trailers, log arch, ect. Plus in my state you can either license them like a motorcycle or run a farm use tag. I also use about 1/4 of the fuel doing the same field work as a tractor. Ie my uncle and I were both raking a field he did half and I did half. I used 5 gal of gas and he used 20 gal in the tractor. The only thing missing is I don’t have a lift on mine. But you can get a toolcat from bobcat that takes care of that. Personally, I prefer a tracked skid steer for that job. They have way more lift and more attachments and capabilities

We made the mistake of buying a fairly large John Deer first. It was too large for our 7 acre goat dairy. I couldn't get into the stalls to clean them. We then purchased two Trail Wagons, one for using the bed that dumps for stall cleaning, and one for hauling milk to the house. I'm still having to hand clean the stalls. I'd love to have a small tractor that I could get into the stalls with a dump empliment.

you stated that you cant get a box blade for a Side by Side or many implements for a side by side that you can get for a tractor. With the exception of the front loader, you can get nearly every implement for a Side by side that is available for a tractor. Instead of being PTO driven, they have their own gas engine. There are some great companies like Swisher and Kuntz Acrease that make many types of pull behind flail , bush hog as well as finish mowers, 3 point and other items. As you mentioned a side by side is lighter and can get on softer ground that a tractor can not. with the available implements for a side by side an even greater tool.but, a tractor is stronger
