Welcome back to another video! The project at hand is a Tracker Grizzly aluminum jon boat. This project was filmed back in May of 2022. The aluminum jon boat came through for some serious upgrades in the form of five Tracker lithium batteries, two Minn Kota on board chargers, a Hummingbird Apex 13 graph mounted on a TBNation Outdoors graph mount, a 36 volt Minn Kota Ultrex, and some wiring rehab! In this 30 min video, I will breeze through, step by step, the process of getting all this new equipment in the jon boat.
This boat is used for electric only reservoir fishing here in Georgia, so of course we will be installing a lot of juice! I add some wiring, a usb volt meter, install batteries and trays, mount a few Minn Kota on board chargers, build a custom battery tray for underneath the front deck, hook up the Apex 13 graph, mount the TBNation graph mount, mount the Minn Kota Ultrex, as well as some other fine details! I'll show you a quick overview of the process step by step as well as some tips and tricks along the way. I also show tools and techniques required to do the job.
All in all, this 17ft Tracker Grizzly left set up right to take on some electric only lakes, without doing a complete gut and rebuild. But not to worry, more on that later!!! 👀

    Two years later this motor is going strong kzread.infoUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite

    I &Ave the same boat. Started with a simple build like that . Went to a full custom build last year. Decks storage , rod box etc.your work is above and beyond anything I could do. I thought and you may already know this, when you do the full build if you move the batteries more towards the center of the boat you will get more speed and efficiency from the electric outboard. I've fished electric only lakes for about 30 years. Not a huge difference but every little bit helps in these boats. Love your work. If I had your skills I would love to customize my rig even more.

  • @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats

    @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats

    I'm not sure what the end game plan will be. The boat may eventually get an electric outboard and unfortunately with those you are limited to keeping the battery within relative distance to the outboard. Distributing weight definitely helps, we will just have to pick and choose what the pros and cons are of the different design options.

  • @donpreller484

    @donpreller484

    My last boat I ran a 48 volt ray motor with lead acid . Currently running a torqueedo 6.0 with lithium. Weight distribution was high more critical with lead. But then some of our lakes are 3000acres so range and speed are important

    Very nice rig, sir! That boat should last you a lifetime with nothing more than an occasional accessory replacement here and there. I bought my Fisher 16.5 foot aluminum deep vee with a 50 HP 4-stroke new in 2002, and she still serves me well. As a matter of fact, considering the cost of used boats these days, she would probably be worth 75% of what I paid for her back then. The best advice I can give you is to unplug the gas line and run it out of gas every time you take her out of the water. I learned this about 10 years ago, and my carburetors have worked flawlessly since. Before that however, I was having to rebuild them every other year.

    Two things to critique if I may...from my experience I suggest: 1. For the battery terminals, instead of buying the multi assortment (I know with assortment packs I always end up not using a lot, which means waste) maybe figure out exactly what you use (i.e. 8 awg- 5/16", 6 awg -3/8" etc) and just buy those sizes in bulk (same goes for ring terminals...you can buy them in all sorts of hole sizes) 2. For the trolling plug, I can almost guarantee if it is the stock plug, it is not rated for 36v system, if it is, great. If not, that's a big electrical problem, and can cause major issues. Another badass video bro, keep up the good work

  • @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats

    @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats

    Жыл бұрын

    Most definitely appreciate insight and a well thought out comment. As far as the terminals, you are right, if your just doing one variety may not be needed. I feel its a good bang for your buck, especially if you are unsure of the exact sizing. I buy the kits and individually, I actually now have a whole tub of electric connections because I do so many boats, so it makes sense to me.. As far as the plug, that definitely is something to look out for. My understanding is that this one is acceptable, it is made by a company called MarineCo and was purchased as an acter market plug for the original trolling motor install. This video was actually filmed in May earlier this year and no issues occurred with it. I definitely don't want any issues nor do I claim to know it all so i appreciate definitely the advice and always welcome helpful constructive criticism!

  • @c.shoefish

    @c.shoefish

    Жыл бұрын

    @@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats absolutely, if you're unsure, or just want an assortment because of different projects, the kits are the way to go. The marineco plugs are solid so I'm sure it's fine. Thanks for not taking offense to what I said, there's so many people nowadays that take offense to criticism.

    @C.Shoe86 yeah man no worries at all. I'm still learning new stuff often. I'd hope to be learning until the day I die. The ones that take offense to an actual inciteful comment are usually people who need to be humbled. Even the best at something can always learn more. I know a lot but never claim to know it all. Mistakes will be made even if I aim for a high level of quality. Learn, move on. We live in a world where people react instead of respond. Too many know it alls out there who think they are above learning anything from anyone and just want to show off to the world how great they are to feel validated. That ain't me.

    I thought I fully explained in the video the boat is for ELECTRIC ONLY lakes and reservoirs, therefore no gas outboards allowed. Most people who run Panoptix, or in this case, Mega 360 live image sonar, prefer large graphs mounted dead center in front if foot pedal so they can read the live imaging as they work the trolling motor. That's why we, and almost every pro boat, does it this way. But beauty is everyone can modify their boats to their own personal liking! Thanks for watching

    The beauty about boats (and many other things in life) is that people can make them their own however they want. Remember, this boat isn't done. And the customer fishes small electric only lakes, doesn't need an outboard. I'm sure she may get an electric outboard at some point, but what's the point if you don't have a trolling motor and electronics? You can LOL all you want but what I LOL about is people coming on my platform, that I built, to interject their opinion that I nor my customer ever asked for but you do it anyway so you can feel good about yourself and feel validated.

And that v hull brand new doesn't come with a 36v ultrex with spot lock, live sonar, lithium batteries, or a 4 thousand dollar graph. I've seen it both ways, guys buy brand new rigged boats only to rerig them and go another 10k in or guys start with cheap boats and outfit it in tons if moneyin top of the line accessories and electronics. Money all relative to the individual, I just build them.
