Also for the booster course pass there was a big debate about bChM and bCoM for Choco Mountain and Coconut Mall respectively since that's how we handled Ribbon Road. Personally I like the abbreviations we ended up going with EXCEPT for Athens Dash, where the abbreviation bAtD comes from how competitive Mario Kart Tour players called the track. Agree that it should have been bADa

I'd like to add something from my perspective as a retired competitive player for all fellow people here. As Rod mentioned, abbrevations are mostly used during competitive events, and most specifically when communicating with your teammates like during Clan Wars or Lounge events. They can be used for every single track, but are partly used when referring to the more common ones such as TM for Twisted Mansion or rWS for DS Wario Stadium. In addition, while the point of using abbrevations is to say something faster, it's actually better not to use them sometimes for various reasons. Sometimes, it's simply better not to use them for tracks such as WP standing for Water Park as its entire name is faster to say out loud. Other times, when referring to other tracks like bSSy for Tour Singapore Speedway, people won't understand as this isn't as common of a track pick. For other tracks though, like those using a lowercase letter at the beginning of their abbrevation such as SNES Donut Plains 3, people often say DP3 not only because that's faster to say, but probably because the community thought it would be the only track using a digit when abbrevations were first made too. Lastly, there are alternatives to some track abbrevations, like "b-dubs" for GCN Waluigi Stadium. I hope that helps!

Thanks for explaining the uses this whole abbreviation system has in the competitive scene, for most of the video I was just thinking how clunky it seems nd how unnecessary it looks, I would never bother memorizing something like this and would never bother abbreviating and calling differently tracks like "Daisy Circuit" or "GBA Mario Circuit", but their use with emojis and helping with language barriers makes total sense!

Having played the game both as a speedrun and in lounge I have zero need for this video... but I'll be damned if I don't watch the whole thing anyway! Actually I didn't know where the name "Nitro" came from so that's cool lol Quick edit. One interesting thing about the abbreviations is that for the Wii U DLC, we have dRR and dRiR. Why didn't we call N64 Rainbow Road rRR and Royal Raceway something like rRaR or rRRw? Well the RRy and RRd abbreviations are holdovers from how MK64 runners abbreviate the tracks. themoreyouknow.gif
