Americans satirizing British people is usually one note. The stereotypic accent, the assumption that everyone talks like Prince Andrew with a bad case of hemorrhoids, the tea and crumpets - caricatures that to the average British person probably makes them go, "huh?" As a Canadian, I get that a lot. Americans satirizing us makes us wonder where the joke actually is. Oh right, they're trying to sound like they're from Ontario. Kind of. Got it. But never send a British person, male or female to satirize Americans. They'll be accurate, hilarious and go in hard. An American trying to do an impression of a specific British person will probably sound like the last impression of someone from the UK that did 5 minutes ago. That's why I'm glad I grew up with British television - mostly stuff from the 70s and 80s, but a few from the 90s are excellent as well. Granted, if I were a British actor or comedian, I'd want to work in the US. There's more money there. I'll probably have to dumb down the comedy for that audience, but I could forgive myself when I'm rolling in dough.

I usually love everything that Tracey Ullman does, but I feel like she and her writers just sorta phoned it in this time, or maybe wrote a sketch and built up a song around a few funny lyrics. The whole 'Kentuckians = inbred' trope is so lazy, and so, so overdone (I guess it wouldn't be a trope if it wasn't!). Granted, there is something off about Billy Ray Cyrus, and his relationship with his daughter does raise some eyebrows, but that could have been approached in a more interesting way. It would have been much fresher and funnier had they explored the weird dichotomy between the desire for 'purity' (read: virginity) in underage pop tarts (and girls writ large), and the early sexualization that is often required of these same girls if they are to succeed in the industry. Of course, this is not just a concern in the entertainment industry, but in many societies, and it is particularly noticeable in certain areas where American christians (often evangelicals, especially those following the uniquely American -- and technically quite un-christian -- 'prosperity gospel') are statistically overrepresented, such as in the pageant and purity ball cultures. That is the primordial soup from whence the Cyruses oozed, and it would have been great to see it explored fully, and and not just used in a quick throwaway joke. ...I know, I know, "get your own show!" (I would love to; are you offering?) and "gee, you must be fun at parties" (why yes, I am!).

Distasteful, disrespectful, and vulgar, you might think this song is a shot a Billy Ray and Miley but it is a huge shot at all Kentuckians, I used to love watching Tracey Takes On but with this video, Tracey, you have lost my respect and I am no longer a fan, you went way too far and it crossed the line. Some people may think it is funny but most of what you are singing about is just plain ignorance, step into the 21st century already!
