+Trabant 601L dkws and some derivatives produced by " Vemag " also the first car produced in Brazil , the Romi - Isetta in 1955 ( the Brazilian version of the Italian Iso Isetta ) but are very rare and expensive cars , being in most cases in the hands of collectors. The Trabbi are even more brave and charismatic !

@1:35 It is proof these cars were not junk at all. Many words can be used to describe it accurately: basic, simple, no frills, etc. But unreliable is not really one of those words, these cars have lasted longer than most. You're cranking a 40-50 year old vehicle with relative ease. I have family with a 1978 Ford that has far more problems cranking in non-freezing conditions.

Yes, right, but in the late 50s, when Trabant 600 came out, (601 is based on 600, they share floor pan, engine, tranny... a lot of things) it was good small car. Compare to western small cars - like Citroen 2CV, Renault R4, Lloyd Alexander, Daf Dafodil, Nsu"s and so on, the Trabi is not bad. Did you see the prototypes like Trabant 603? It was a fully modern vehicles, but DDR gevernment did not allow them to produce newer and more modern vehicles...
