I always loved the Celica. I'll be happy to see it come back. I was surprised that when the BRZ 86 came out, that it wasn't badged as a Celica. Let's hope for a mid engine MR2... perhaps a rebadged Lotus which already uses a Toyota engine? How hasn't that happened with the original Elise or Evora???

I agree as an MR2 owner and previously a Celica owner, I think they would have sold more if they called it a Celica. Toyota owners are loyal and Celica Club members would have jumped at it.

@@robsx4280 I totally agree. Calling it Celica instead of GR86 and integrating some styling cues from the past would have been a much bigger hit. If rebadging a BMW Z4 was acceptable to make a Supra, there's no reason why Toyota couldn't rebadge a Toyota powered Lotus to be an MR2. It boggled the mind. The Supra is 99% not a Toyota

A couple requests though; please offer a gas or hybrid variant, and offer a coupe! I was never crazy about the hatchbacks. Thanks and look forward to updates on this. ✌🏽❤️✊🏽

I'd love to have a new Celica, my current is a 2001, getting pretty old. If it's an electric car I'll likely pass. I'd be way more interested in it as a hydrogen combustion engine as they mocked up with a GR Corolla...a stick shift is a must for me.

I think I’ll just stick to my tuned 7th Gen GT-S. Lift and 8500 RPM redline never gets old. 6-speed manual and a design still looking good to this day. Celica as an EV…that’s the future I guess. Sounds boring. Likely automatic too.

Toyota certainly already have the drivetrain to produce both the Celica and the MR2. All they have to do is drop the G16E-GTS and awd into a two door coupe and they instantly have a new Celica. For the mr2, just put the same motor in the rear and have a rear mounted transverse set up of the G16E-GTS. Then Toyota will have three sports car sharing the same drivetrain to help them amortize the cost of building them by having a future gr86, gr mr2, and gr celica.

If BMW were to build a new shooting brake like that they'd be smart to make it as an ultra premium Alpina model to preserve the exclusivity of it. Then they can charge pretty much whatever they want for it and be picky about who gets to buy one becuase the sort of people who would be willing to throw around that sort of money for a car will happily jump through hoops to get the newest most exclusive hotness from munich.
