I truly enjoyed this video along with the bloopers. I hate it when videos are made and they remove any incident that may happen (Oil catcher). Thanks for sharing Sir.
for anyone prepping to do this, I'd suggest having a larger 1/2" breaker bar and a 24 mm socket for the oil filter housing because those things can be over torqued by the dealership, at least mine was. this was the solution I'd found on tacoma world, if anyone runs into a similar thing

Same , I’m in love with my 23 TRD OR
Great video, I'm 64 years old, and I only rotated tires on one car out of the Many cars and trucks I have had over my lifetime. What I found out is yes it made them wear the same, but it wore out all of them at the same time, so I never rotate tires anymore, why? Because I don't want to have to buy but 2 tires at the same time rather than all 4, It's a lot cheaper to buy 2 tires over 4 or even 5. I don't believe you get more life out of your tires by rotating, but you do get more life out of the set that way because the back usually wears out faster if you have rear-wheel drive and spin your tires when you take off or the front if you have front-wheel drive. And I never included my spare tire in the rotation, which honestly is probably a good idea, especially if they all match and they are all new. I'm going to try it your way on my new Tacoma and see what happens, I don't need a new spare tire, just something to get me to the tire shop if something happens on the road. I do carry a can of fix a flat and a mini air compressor with me everywhere I go, I even carry a tire fix it kit I bought from Amazon in all my cars and trucks so if i can find the whole I can just fix it on the road. I do a lot of backpacking and white water canoeing. Right now I have a dodge ram 2500 Toyota Tacoma and a Honda CRV which doesn't even come with a spare tire at all it just the can to fix a flat lol. I'm going to try it your way this time and rotate my spare into the mix until I get my spare worn down to almost time to buy a new one and see what happens, keep up the good work.
Haha this guy is all fun! Thanks for this great explanation,I’m a Taco owner and wanted to know how to reset maintenance light 😅

@@JasonExplainsThings how do you know that the current oil level in the transmission and differentials is correct? Do you have faith in the factory's procedure, and or in the dealership pre-sale inspection? Have I checked mine? You ask. NO! I feel neglectful in that respect. The all too (new practice) common practice these days is to have a sealed transmission, no dip stick. We customers are the dipsticks now days for allowing this practice to continue. And I have not checked the diffs due to blind faith that they got it right at the factory, foolish I know. This will change as soon as I return home from my journey. Not a bad video, basically what I do with two differences. 1) Shop vac, connect to the inlet pull vacuum while you take off the the drain plug, you don't get any oil out till you shut off the vacuum. Lazy way to keep clean. 2) Do you not have grease joints on the Drive shafts anymore? I have a 2nd gen Tacoma and I lube them up every time I change the oil. I installed a Valvomax drain plug on my Tacoma after I bathed myself with oil on the first change. I scrimp on the cabin air filter because I open my windows and sunroof on nice days. I’ve got a question for you Jason. My dealership uses Mobile 1 full synthetic oil when they change the oil and filter. If Havoline is better oil, why do they use Mobile 1 ? I get free oil and filter changes for as long as I own my truck, (which is about 15-20 years or 250K to 300K miles). Toyota says to change the oil and filter every 10K miles but I still change it every 5K miles, so I buy the Mobile 1 full synthetic oil and filter and crush washer, so Toyota charges me $40 every time I’m paying for it. My 23 TRD Off Road is about a year old with 8,500 miles. We’re going to MT this weekend for vacation, so I’m sure after returning home it’ll have 10K miles on it. Ok the TPMS tool you use in the video is one I was looking at getting myself. Do all 5 tires have TPMS on your truck? Or just 4?
God, I have that drain pan and I HATE it. It's so neat when oil unexpectedly shoots all over you and it totally shouldn't. Then you flinch and slam your head into your lower control arm.

Oh man. 😫
Is the 10K oil change interval correct or should it be every 5K? Both dealership and manual says 10K with full synthetic but I hear conflicting info.

Great question. Here's my answer and a video I highly suggest watching. Essentially 5K is infinitely better for your vehicle long term. The 10k interval became a thing predominately to market lower cost of ownership... and problems usually don't manifest until after a vehicle is out of warranty. This video is from Toyota master technician about why the 10k interval is so bad for your vehicle: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hn6cqKOwdtmTf5M.html

@@JasonExplainsThings thanks! I previously watched that video which is why I posed the question. I will 100% change it every 5K. My Tacoma is currently at little over 11K miles driven total and dealership is refusing to do the oil change, since there’s 5K remaining on the oil change interval, and it’s still in the free courtesy service period- currently 5K since last oil change. Do you recommend I change it myself immediately or let it ride out to 10K this time only? Especially since the truck only has 11k miles total. I’m assuming there won’t engine damage this early.
Dude you went to Yakima to buy your Tacoma? I had to look it up to make sure. I almost worked for them. Do you live around Yakima?

I’m in Central WA. 👍
Can you get away with using a 3-ton low profile Pittsburgh (20in max height) on a 3rd Gen trd off-road? Or is there any advantage to spending more on a long reach Daytona?

I use the full height of the jack all the time, but you can always throw a block of wood or something in to use the shorter jack.

That’s what I used to do.
Nice job. Personally, I change my oil every 3,000 to 3,500 miles. Oil is cheap and easy to perform. Some may say it's overkill buy, yet you can't tell me it's bad for my engine to change my oil every 3k vs. every 5k or 7.5k or even every 10k miles

Yeah likely overkill unless you’re driving in very dusty environments and off-roading a ton. Then your interval is not overkill at all.

And yes, it can’t hurt anything to change it more often.

@JasonExplainsThings perhaps I'm an old school guy. Service my oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles witch ever comes first. I've been doing that since 1996 regardless of whether I'm driving V4, V6, or V8 engine or turbo engine as well. Also, transmission service drain and fill every 15,000 miles, never transmission flush. My oldest vehicle I own is a 2006 Toyota Sequoia 4WD 3 inch lift on 35 inches currently has over 300.000 miles. Also, 2013 Lexus GS F Sport and 2019 Toyota Tundra TRD PRO. All get the same type of service as mentioned.
Does anyone know where to get the Havoline Pro RS oil? I can’t find it anywhere!

Yeah it’s impossible these days. I’m using Havoline Pro-DS instead.
I’d love to do this myself seriously but I take it to the Toyota dealership when it is time to change the oil. Therefore, I just let them do ieverything every 5,000 miles.
What style are those wheels ?

They are TRD cast aluminum bronze wheels. OEM wheel.
The oil wouldn't shoot out if you had the vent open. Just a little advice from experience
